Thank you very much prabhuji. I made a twist first time for Lord Jagannath on Janmashtami. I used sky blue and dark blue cloth with pearls running between the gaps. It came out really well. Thank you very much. Highly grateful for sharing this. Also planning to make pin cushions

For the base instead of looking for a sponge...There is a material called tyro foam sheets available in the market. You can buy hat sheet and accordingly cut as per your requirement. You don't have to stitch the base and all that
