could we get actual, non-auto generated captions for this video? the auto generated captions can't understand what he's saying any better than I am able to due to the audio issue.

more and more, we are getting fragmented into particular spaces. this is why there are so few genuinly critical voices left, only thumbs up as a result of the algorithmically coupling with rude comments and personal attacks. data does not know the distinction between personal and public.

Roger Syversen it’s been that case in the art world for a long time. There is simply no common grounding aesthetic. Very interesting parallels between the arts and the world we currently inhabit

Is it just me or does Anthony Giddens only wear white shirts? In his pics on the internet I only see him in white shirts. By the way... I have the highest respect for Prof. Lord Giddens. Just curious about the shirts.

I feel that this avenue of starting from an ontology of spacetime as fundamental to the social, or as professor Giddens says "constitutive of forms of social organization", is highly problematic in terms of how reality is the product of a complex of quantum processes. Nonetheless, always lovely to hear him talk.

It's almost an axiomatic rule : The more important the subject matter, the poorer the oratory skills of the presenter. I'm sure this man is intelligent and erudite but he's a dull monotone lifeless speaker.
