movies like this make me really glad I went to a diverse high school with plenty of white kids, plenty of black kids, plenty of asian kids, plenty of hispanic kids, etc. stereotypes still permeate, of course, but interacting with people in outgroups from a young age helps stop them from sticking

I often attribute that part of the reason none of the rampant Islamophobia that swept across America, especially amongst white people, post-9/11 never stuck with me was because the middle school I attended, which I started attending literally just weeks before 9/111, had a substantial number of its staff be of Islamic Turkish backgrounds. I was taught by these people, played sports with them, went on really awesome school trips with them, just generally had a lot of fun and strong memories with them, so even little 12-14 year old me knew all the hate people were aiming at people such as these teachers was just pure bullshit.

Just found that while “Loqueesha” was originally listed in the 2019 film festival lineup, the festival responded, saying the film was pulled from the lineup prior to the festival and was never shown. So it seems the trailer was very much lying.

From the movie's Wiki - Despite using laurels from the San Luis Obispo Film Festival, the festival tweeted that it was never "selected, screened, or given an award at our festival."[2] The film was originally submitted to the George Sidney Independent Film Competition, but was rejected. Then Savile submitted it to the "Central Coast Filmmakers Showcase", open to residents of Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties (Savile is a resident of Carmel). Loqueesha was accepted in this category, but was pulled by its producers before screening, but after the Festival guides had been printed. Nevertheless, the festival apologized for the film and committed to "installing appropriate measures to see that this unfortunate circumstance does not occur in the future.”[3][4] The "Central Coast Filmmakers Showcase" is an open competition, and a film in that showcase does not constitute being an "official selection"

I saw The Test movie. Dude is horrible. He puts his fiance through all kinds of shit. He fakes getting fired from his job to see if she loves him for his money, gets *HER* boss to fake firing her to see if she'd stick by him if they had no job security, have one of his friends stage a break in to test if she'd be willing to die for him, and even fakes a debilitating illness to see if she'll stick by him. The whole movie was awful. This was the one time you'd be glad to see the third act break up.... too bad they make up because "Love "😒

Admitting something is wrong and racist in that movie is basically a "see, viewers? I'm not racist!" moment. But here's the problem: "I know what I'm doing is wrong" is NOT the same thing as "I know what I'm doing is wrong, and I choose to change." Saville is clearly an ignorant racist and misogynist who thinks he's funnier than he actually is, and projected that ego through his self-directed, self-written film.
