Part Three of Four Videos: LOPING ON THE LEFT LEAD OVER POLES
Welcome back to my channel guys! Cody and I appreciate you being here and supporting our channel.
Today's video is a series of 4 videos that I filmed with Cody walking, trotting and loping ground poles on a lead line. My focus with Cody is to build his topline and strengthen his core after a long winter of hit and miss riding and working him. It also is great for working on his balance without a rider on his back.
He has lost a little weight, like 70 pounds, over the winter and I want him to gain his weight by combining an excellent feeding program and conditioning program. Cody is 21 years old and I believe that his age is contributing with a little loss of topline and core strength, but I also believe that with the right feeding and exercise program, I can help him maintain his performance in the show ring.
So, without further ado, let's get started with our first video! Enjoy
Walk/Trot Poles Spacing: 28" to 32" apart. You can do this by using your feet, toe heel, toe heel. Ideal spacing is when your horse only trots one foot in between each pole. If he can trot 2 trot steps in between, then your poles are too far apart.
Lope Over Poles Spacing: 6 to 7 feet (72" to 84"), using your feet, toe heel, toe heel. I'm a size 8 shoe, so about 9 toe heel to reach my 72" spacing..
Exercise: Walk your warmup, then ask for the trot and trot 20 times to the left and rest 2 to 3 minutes, and 20 times to the right, rest for 2 to 3 minutes.
Reset your poles for his lope over work. See above for spacing. Lope 20 times to the left (left lead) and 20 times to the right (right lead) and call it a day!!!
Thanks for watching guys!
