What a WONDERFUL update on your beautiful Lophs Claire :-D and beautiful blooms, I LOVE Lophs so much and their shape and woolly tufts are so gorgeous on them and I LOVE their cute blooms, and I agree its amazing how fast the blooms appear, I LOVE the look of the crusty cracked skin, it looks so cool and adds character to them, and a lot of Lophs in their habitats often have this too, and thats a brilliant idea giving the tufts a brush, they look AMAZING, thanks so much for the fantastic update Claire, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Sea for a fantastic afternoon XXXX

Lovely Lophs and blooms, Claire 😊 The ones with the marked skin look like they may have been sprayed with something in the past that they didn’t like. I think Edith had a couple of Lophs turn a bit crusty after she sprayed fungicide on them. They still look awesome though even with blemishes. As you said once before the plants have a story to tell. Thanks for your fantastic comment and for watching 😃👍🌵 Edith did mention a while ago about hers with crusty skin, and I'm not convinced it was spider mite on my ones, previous owner didn't say...so yes perhaps that did happen to mine too. Happy they are finally doing something after so long...maybe they were just recovering. But yes I love them even with the crazy skin 😄 and yes you're right, they have a story to tell 😊 if only they could tell us 🤭 👍🌞🌵😊

I’m happy to see these beauties recovering from their crusty skin. Lovely little bloom, so cute! 😍 Love those fluffy areoles too! I realised that Lophophora skin is quite sensitive. My other cacti did not show an adverse effect from that fungicide but most of my Lophs did. It’s just amazing how they are so resilient. Lophs are definitely one of my most faves! Thanks for the update, Claire! ❤️🌺🌸🌼🌵💚

Beautiful plant!! I love these cause they are so free flowering!! I have the Lophophora williamsii tex. My oldest two plants are now 40 years old!!! Along with a few of their seedlings from over the years. Yes mine are quite wooly like yours. And I give them the brush treatment also! Hahaha yes as time goes by they will actually grow a tall barked up trunk!!! And as they get older , the old line of areoles will show a marked twist as compared to younger plants. Also to keep them from being stolen.

Hi there. I am new with lophophora. That is adorable how the fluff can be brushed. WOw! Ha ha I love it even more now. I am experiencing the same cracking and I am worried the skin/ epidermis will split? May I ask for an update now, it still intact?

Thanks so much for watching, and for your comment 😊 🌵 These Lophophora shown in my video are still doing well and are fine, I'm waiting for them to wake up for the growing season, any time now! The skin on Lophophora will only actually split or cracks open exposing the flesh if you over water them in one go, too suddenly, I always give them a little water at a time leading upto a thorough water so that it runs out the bottom.

Mite damage, hope they’re better now.

Is it true not all LW grow pups? Your have beautiful plants!

Lophophora williamsii can grow pups, usually from about 5cm diameter a solitary mature plant could start growing pups or it may look like it is changing shape and pups grow out of the plant to form huge clumps over many years. Some Lophophora may not pup, for various reasons in cultivation or the wild. Also they will highly likely form pups if the top of the main growing point or the meristem is sliced off, or is damaged, then any remaining healthy areoles around the plant will grow new pups in response. Around the woody aged root area under the greener top part of the cactus this is the older part of the cactus as it joins the taproot and will have older areoles and often these sit below the soil level as the cactus matures and they move downward, and these too, can sprout out new pups under soil level! To intentionally create a Lophophora to produce pups, the top is carefully sliced off, but not too much, and pups will grow from the remaining tap root and viable areoles. @@CactusCove thanks for all the information. I have a little guy 1 inch (2.5 centimeters in diameter) that has no tufts or pups, but is otherwise very green and healthy. His mix is mostly pumice and horticulture charcoal, with a little bit of 1/4 -1/8" limestone, granite, and calcine clay chips. He is 7 years old I only water him about 4 or 5 times a year. He sits on my windowsill in dabbled bright indirect light. I just found some cactus juice I think I'm going to let him try some this coming spring. It's a cactus fertilizer that is mostly just minerals. I didn't know if he'd get pups ever. Now I have hope!
