Looking for shark teeth. Mickler's Landing had shells and teeth!

Looking for shark teeth at Mickler's Landing was so much more fun than I expected. I didn't get it right for a while there, but once I asked for help I managed to start finding those teeth.

Oh my gosh! I sure wish this video had been live. I kept wanting to holler out to you where go to find sharks’ 🦈 teeth at Mickler’s. As well as the way to find them. For next time….go to where there are mounds of broken shells such as coquina shells. Have a beach towel to sit on & something to rake through those mounds. Once you start raking, you’ll likely start finding those teeth. They will pile up under those top shells over the months & years. When I was in my 20s a friend & I went to Mickler’s & just a short walk down the beach I decided to check out a big mound near the high tide line. It was low tide when we were there. My friend walked a little further down & we decided to see which of us could find the most teeth. I stuck with my original location & I started using my hand to carefully dig in the mound. I couldn’t believe what I discovered that day. There were 100s of sharks waiting for me! I kept digging & they kept coming. I didn’t want to be greedy, so as I recall I only took away around 150 teeth that day & left plenty for the next person lucky to find my “treasure chest”. My friend wasn’t so lucky. She had gone quite a distance from me that day. If I hadn’t had my 3 year old daughter with me & would’ve most likely followed her & just passed by my magical mound. It was as if my precious little girl had guided me to that very spot. I’m 75 years old now & I’ll never forget that day. Happy Holidays to you & your husband. ♥️

What a magical shark teeth story! And what you say makes a ton of sense - the teeth will kind of fall beneath the pieces of shells. Well, at least I'll know of next time. Thank you for sharing your incredible day there with us all!

Good evening, beach friends! I can't say how much I need this tonight. I won't bother you with details, just remember me in your prayers tonight! I've never found many shells up that way, but snorkeling can yield some coquina stone. The ocean sounds as if it's whispering peace to my battered soul. I love you, my Beach Angel, but I'm listening to the voice of the sea. If I recall coreectly, the shark's teeth are a little heavier than the shells, so they're found deeper than the shells. I think that may have been the base of a shark's tooth. This reminds me of my days at a minerals research lab where, in processing phosphate samples from coastal NC, a large number of HUGE sharks' teeth were found. Sadly, I didn't snag any big ones, but got several of the smaller ones. I think my former stepson got those! Bummer! Sharmon, you are one of the tribe of people who make your own fun! Your joy at finding puzzle pieces of shells makes my heart so much lighter! Oh, Beach Time! Is it any wonder that those powerful waves beat shells to pieces? The sea is such a beautiful color today! Hurray for you, dear heart! Now you're cooking with gas! So glad for you! Thanks, Sharmon, for taking us along on your Atlantic adventure. I'll touch base with you after the holidays. Much love to all of you who love all things salty and shiny! Hope your hiludays are as wonderful as you are! Rebecca, the Lost Mermaid 🌹🧜🐚❤️

Yes, we are definitely blessed on this side of the state!😊 When you go back over there, don't be afraid of cannonball jellyfish. They wont hurt or sting you. The water was a beautiful color! Can't help much with shell ID over there... So I wonder if the shark teeth are more high around Venus. Seems like when I went down there, they were being found in the surf (but not by me😢). I ended up buying some from the Chavises (Salty Reflections). That was a big trip for 3 teeth! 😊 Hmmm... Didn't know there were houses on Cayo Costa. But then all I saw was the beach and state park campground. Looking forward to next week. I had a great experience with my sister there and need to get back. Thanks Sharmon! xxoo

Awesome imperial venus! Those are such fun finds. They're so easy to miss when they're laying on the other side though. Lately I've been trying to inspect and flip over even the regular venus clams just in case they turn out to be an imperial. As others here have said your mystery broken whelk is a knobbed whelk, and so it the piece at 10:20. They can get almost just as big as the huge lightning whelks and can also be very spiky if you're lucky, they're all over the Carolinas. Congrats on the shark teeth!

What a surprise! I lived in Jacksonville for a while and visited Mickler’s Beach several times. I always heard it referred to as “Mick” instead of “Mike” I’m glad to know the correct pronunciation. I had the most luck at Little Talbots State Park which is north of Jacksonville, I found a lot of sand dollars there.

Both the top and the dextral shell are Knobbed Whelks. They look very similar to the Lightning Whelk, but they’re the mirrored version. They are east-coast shells, found a lot in the Carolinas. The orangey-brownish color comes from the high iron-rich clay sediment on the southern east coast. So cool you found some shark teeth!!! I haven’t found any of those yet!

It was so excited today to find an old video you were in 2 yrs. ago on beachcomber magazines YT. It was first time I’ve ever seen your face or heard you talk about yourself and it was just wonderful. It would be great to have an update to that video. There were a lot of things you hadn’t done yet and shells you wanted to find, places you wanted to go . I’m wondering if you’ve gotten a chance to do any of that in the two years since.

Hi Sharmon! Well, this was quite different. I have jars of shark teeth from the SC beaches that I have collected all my life. It takes patience!! I am so use to seeing you do SWFla shelling that I almost felt bad there wasn't much in the line of shells. The further north up the east coast the more you see tan, gray and black. That is why I love SWFLA shells so much. All the color and variety. So glad you found some shark teeth. That is like a therapy!! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Dear Sharmon, What a fun experience to hunt for shark teeth! And you did manage to find 3! (and a half😉) I really love the black shells. And it's amazing to see that they stay black, even when they get back to the fresh air again. Dear Sharmon and dear viewers of this channel; I wish you all a very Merry Christmas! ❤ I hope that you all have a wonderful time with your family and friends! Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

What a coincidence! I posted a video from Mickler's Landing on my channel just last Tuesday - Crazy! Anyway, sorry you were there at high tide, it doesn't seem like you had much luck with your finds (compared to your normal hauls). Keep on combing, I learn A LOT from your channel and hope to someday check out those west Florida beaches - Paul

I've never been to Mickler's, but I do live on the north/central east coast, and we have even less shells! But then there are days we do! Anyway, I believe one of the most common arks I see here is the incongruous ark, and very often it is that glowing white color of the broken one you found. It is the thinnest of all the arks I find, and it has a fancy skirt-like appearance to me. Textured and flared out to each side. Thanks for posting this video during the holidays! Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, and hope you have the best year ever in 2024!

You're absolutely right about shelling on the East Coast. Can be slim pickins, but when you DO find one, it's pretty nice. I got a couple of very nice shells near Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks for making us all experts now in looking for shark teeth! When I visit friends in Tampa, I always just drive around Jax. Next time, I think I'll plan a stop at Mickler's Landing. I've never found shark teeth.

We call it “shell grit” …it’s very common in patches. My step daughters find shark teeth all the time…they just have the eyes for it. They recently did a tour at fernidina and managed to get a gorgeous 4” meg tooth of lots of smaller ones.

You should try fort clinch lots of shells and lots of teeth. I'm commenting mid video but the black pieces I think are parts of an oyster shell at least in my experience that's what I've come to find. The one thing was a piece of a cohog that has all the drill holes in it. Once you get used to spotting teeth it will get easier to tell the difference between a piece of shell and a portion of tooth. And you are doing nothing wrong it just takes awhile to get an eye for them I think they look almost like metal co.pared to the iridescence of a shell

He understod most of what you said in English due to English classes in school, gaming and KZread!😅 He said : Can we go there, Mom?! I want to find those too!!!🥹 We are actually planning on going over to the US in the summer, visiting friends and relatives! Most of them live in Minnesota, but some live in Florida…! I went to Anna Maria several years ago and my sister wanted me to find her some shark teeth. I wound up on Caspersen beach by myself and after the waves beating the crap out of me for an hour or two I managed to find a nice little haul of many different small shark teeth. After showing them to my friends when I got back to Anna Maria, my friend’s young daughter found one right on our beach. I thought it was cool she was so observant. It was fun but my sister really wants to go down and look for megaladon teeth. 😄
