Mark invites a diehard Yamaha fanatic to SnowTrax world headquarters who unveils his lifetime collection of Yamaha sleds, products and memorabilia. Then the two take a trip down memory lane as they discuss vintage Yamaha snowmobiles including the original Sno Scoot, 1979 Enticer 300, a 1980s SRV and then step into the present as they ride the all-new 2019 Sidewinder SRX.

@@andrewwoodward6560 Late to the party here, but "seems to have gotten unaffordable" ... There is no "seems" to it. They have become outpriced. And to be honest, and I know this is subjective, but the newer sleds are really not very good looking in my eyes. But then, I tend to lean toward the "old school" anyway. I would happily take a 70's or 80's vintage Enticer or Exciter any day. I used to ride an old 1974-ish? Yamaha SL338 frame with a 433 engine on it. (Yes, the one with the engine up on the tunnel between your legs.) The thing ripped! Too bad I scrapped it after I threw the track back in 1989. If I had only known back then.... Anyways, sorry for hijacking your comment. Just wanted to put this out there. I truly miss snowmobiling more than I am willing to admit.
Yamaha 1987 champ 100 atv was my first introduction to powersports. I was 9 y.o. This thing was bullet proof I had it for 16 years! The blaster and the banshee just came along naturally👌
Those SRVs are still the most beautiful sleds I've ever seen.
The Yammy Enticer was the last popular sled I can remember from the days when we got enough natural snow to cover the trails in southern Ontario. The SnoScoot still has traction now in the 21st century it's a machine that deserves a renaissance. I never saw one in real-time back-in-the-day The Yammy SRV was the competitor to the Skidoo Blizzard, both sleds looked futuristic at the time albeit they were way outside the price range of the majority of young dudes I knew including myself. Great show SnowTrax TV.
I have a '79 Enticer 250 that is still trail ridden by my kids. A amazing machine as reliable as a hammer. I have had a lot of people what to buy it. Love it can't imagine selling it. Yamaha makes great products.
This is a great video. Snowmobilers are at the Apex of nostalgia. 😉 I was born in 1980 with my cousin shortly behind me. When we were old enough to stop falling asleep on the back of sleds we were handed a pair of 78 moto ski mirages. Boy I tell you what, we literally wore the skis off those sleds. They were cold as hell to ride with metal unheated flippers but it didn’t stop us.

Yes absolutely! And still making memories. Unfortunately I’ve been sick for past two weeks and haven’t been able to get up north. I have 2018 skidoo 850 blizzard now. It’s a little better than the moto ski. Also got a cheap used IQ shift carb model I’ve been wrenching on for a secondary sled. Keep up the good work. It is very much appreciated.
I have 79 340 enticer and it’s a blast

Same here, if you go heavier on the clutch fly weights, one tooth more on the top chaincase sprocket, and increase the distance between the primary and secondary clutches ( but not so much that the sled starts to go just idling), you will get 30 miles per gallon at about 40 mph and I've been clocked at 78 mph.

I used to get it to go properly 50mph and when it was new properly 70 my uncle said but not now days it’s lost so much compression over time. Anyway enjoy your enticer!!

@Aiden Moody haha there fun but there not very comfortable to ride for long periods of time and when you get on a nice new sled for a little while then go back you don’t want to ride it anymore. So bud enjoy it and I hope you upgrade eventually
I had an 83’ SRV what a great sled! My brother and I were Yamaha fans we had Enticers also but the fastest sled we had was a 79’ SRX. That sled wouldn’t quit pulling. Good times! 😁

Great video ! I'm always looking for shows on the vintage machines !
I've owned 17 Yamaha sleds from 1976 to present. Gp,Enticers,SRVs, Phazers,Sx600,SX Vipers,Rage. Currently have 79 ET300,90Phazer ,92ET410 and custom built 02Viper
That enticer 300, was my first full sized sled, after the kitty kat. Dad it bought it brand new in 1979, and assembled from the crate in my parents carport. It was Mt older brothers first, then mine around 1982.
I had a enticer deluxe 340, electric start. Awsome sled for a 12 year old kid, reliable and lightweight. Also bought a 86 srv, that was mint . Great sled also.
My first sled was a brand new '78 ET 250. Loved that sled

I had the 1979 enticer twin and the 1981 340. Great sleds. I started out on a 1972 suzuki 440.
1979 ET 340.. bullet proof , tons of fun.. my SRV 540.. fun as along as you planned your trip by gas stops.. still hoping to get back into the sport.. and will for sure be on a Yamaha when I do..
Yamaha was ahead of the curve with oil injection. Love the SR-V . Nice looking sled.
First snowmobile I had was the ET250 1979, then a 1980 srx440. 72 HP in 79 was not too shabby. Then the ET 340 deluxe in 82 with spedo and tachometer. My first ride ever was on a 1967 skidoo olympique
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy approved ! that was good info
Bought my first yamaha sled this autumn! A 1986 XLV 540 2-up😎only fix was a siezed up right ski bearing. Hope it runs good on trails!
If Yamaha re-released the Sno-Scoot today, completely unchanged they would sell. There’s a reason they’re worth more now used then they were new.
I still love my 1967 snowcruiser

The Phazer was one of the best sleds they ever made.
I've had every kind of toy and every brand. Now, it's Yamaha or nothing!! There's fast, there's sexy, there's great handling etc. etc. But when people say "what brand is the best?" I personally believe that the "BEST" is based on quality and reliability. And there is NO disputing that Yamaha's quality and reliability is 2nd to NONE!
I need to hang out with this guy ! I’m a Yamaha man myself . Except 2 of my quads are Cat and Suzuki . But I do have Yamaha quad also , along side many other Toyz
My very first sled was a 1980 enticed 300, later moved onto a 1980 ss440 that sled was red and the best looking of them all imo. Found a great deal on a 79 exciters which was surprisingly quite a bit quicker then the ss. Then I went off to my favorite sled of all my 1980 srv 540, it was blue with pinstripes on the hood. Man I wish I still owned all these sleds, something about the old Yamahas always excited me, the Sleds of today are great but I would trade my 2017 summit for those sleds in a heartbeat.
My first sled was a 79 enticer 300, looked just like that one but mine said “special twin” not sure what was special about it vs the regular enticer 300 but it was a blast
Oh man vintage ski doo special would be incredible. 1980s oh yes!!! Formula Mx all the way hahaha
Glad to see I'm not the only Yamanut out there as my current stable includes two Banshees(one never fueled), an '11 Apex, and an '03 Viper in red albeit not counting the hoards of them sold over the years I wish I had now today. I really miss my 1985 Tri-Z which got stolen many years ago:(
👍👍👍👍. I'm the same way Yamaha to the grave. My first one was and still have is a 95 Kodiak 400 been through hell and back. All my ATVs snowmobiles motorcycles all Yamaha. Hope to all the wolverine x4 to my collection so I can get the whole family out as a group. My son's got a 125 grizzly and he's only 6 but I can see he's got the Yamaha feaver like me. Good episode. Grew up on Yamaha, but in the mountains there just too damn heavy. If I was a Midwest trail rider, I would still be riding Yamaha. The last band new Yamaha for me was my 2000 Mtn Max, then heavily modified M7 162, to 14 Pro 163, to 16 Axys 163. I'd go back to Yamaha in a second, if they started making 2 strokes again, in the new Mtn Cat chassis.
Yamaha needs to start selling the Bravo LT and the enticer 340 again, they are the best. I would buy a new one.

got a 98 SX 600 twin great machine
Nice Clean older Yamaha's but the 1976 SRX Liquid and the 1975 GPX Free Air were very fast for their time.. My Father still has a 1976 Yamaha Exciter ported milled jugs clutch work .. You have to be careful on a warm day or you will burn a hole in the piston on the opposite d side of the Fan .. Single carb seems too lean in the hot side too rich on the cool side.. I got a Yamaha Attack in 1976 I thought I was getting too old and weak to lift a stuck sled then I realized it weighs about double what the 1976 Exciter weighs ..
When I was a kid in the late 70s early 80s I had a red Enticer 340. Replaced it with a Cat Jag3000 in early 80s which was the last sled I owned before moving South.

@dsrutherford9197
4 жыл бұрын
SnowTrax TV Yes. I grew up near Watertown NY and we have a family camp on a Big Moose Lake in the central Adirondacks (near Old Forge). We would snowmobile the Town of Webb trails (Old Forge - 500 miles of trails) and the lakes every weekend that the weather would support it. Back in the 1970s and early 80s in NNY you could snowmobile from early December into the end of March. Now the climate has changed enough that it’s hit and miss. They will receive feet of snow and then a few days later it’ll be 55° for days in the middle of February and then drop back down to 10 below. Hard to know when there will be enough snow to support riding. So every winter I tell myself I’m going to drive to Old Forge, get a motel room or stay at my dads camp, and rent a snowmobile but I just never do it. But every year I check the snow cams all winter long, check on the new machines online, follow the weather, trail reports. I really miss it.
Everybody gets this wrong. The V in SRV is actually a roman numeral for five so it is actually an SR5. My dad was a dealer, that's how I know
Yamaha rules, bikes, sleds, whatever #1 ! I’m an IT lover
That is a real man
Great vid. Here is an interesting bit of history. SRV is the new Yamacat chassis. The snowmobile you showed was an SR FIVE. Watch any of the old Yamaha promotion videos if you need proof. Their lettering was a bit misleading and having an SRX and an SR FIVE at the same time was for sure confusing I'll grant you. That year in particular they made the lettering very hard to tell. Some years it was far easier with 82 probably being the easiest with its very large V. And before you ask, yes the XLV was also XL FIVE. One of the strangest things with the SR FIVE was that even in their own brochures Yamaha would type it out as SRV. Small wonder everyone was so confused.
Still rippin my 1971 ski doo elan

That Snow Scoot looks like a scaled down version of a Rev Gen4 chassis.

Wonder if he has any Bravos , Ovations and Phazers
Single carb ? Wow.. i never knew that. Always thought the SR-V had dual carbs.

I work for BRP Ski-doo in Valcourt,Quebec(Canada). I am sure Yamaha is a very good machine, but they only have about eight percent of the snowmobile world market. Hence, Yamaha snowmobiles are in a niche market segment. Furthermore, I wonder if Yamaha inc. either in the USA or Canada, employs fifteen hundred workers like BRP Ski-doo does ? ? I like Yamaha, but I also like my paycheck and I don't believe that Yamaha inc. employs very many people here in North America. Period !
