Royal version of persona is what i wish to see from remakes and remasters, its not just more pixels, it not only builds up on the core game it heavily addresses the flaws of the original, from being able to do things at night after dungeons, being able to max out social links in a single playthrough without using guides, it fixes akechi as a character, it dramatically improves mementos and it adds a new incredible story arc with top tier antagonist, it pushes a 9/10 game to a 10/10 GOAT material imo and thats what remasters and remakes should do.

Though the one major problem is what he mentioned about Kasumi. The third semester is really just Persona 5's equivalent of The Answer from Persona 3 FES where it's just a brand new story taking place after the original story and it's only there when Kasumi is finally a playable party member and it was hinted that she was going to play a major part later in the main story, but she never does, she offers to help during the third act of the main story, but they turn her down for reason that are non sensible, which is at a point in the story where they need as much help as they can and they've seen her take down shadows like a pro. That alone really makes Royal feel like an enhanced version that doesn't really want to be an enhanced version in terms of story because they're afraid that they're going to upset the fanboys if they do. Sorry, but in terms of story, this is the only thing that bothers me about Royal. If they really want to save her plot relevance just for the third semester, I'd say in the main story, she should have the same amount of screen time as, say, Mishima, and have her awakening take place at the start of Maruki's Palace.

@@spydersoup8447 Woa i wouldn't compare the third semester with the answer, the answer removes the life sim and its straight up dungeon crawling at its worst especially with the difficulty and terrible level design, it felt like an unnecessary continuation of the story its nowhere near on par with Persona 3's base game's story(atleast the second half) Third semester feels like an expansion it has its own unique story and its loosely connected to the main story like the witcher 3 blood and wine/HOS. As for kasumi i feel she is in a very awkward position where She either feels shoehorned into a story where she does not belong and they will have to rewrite the dialogues to each arc. Or she will feel like an underutalized character, i personally liked what they did with her character she appears here and there and you can level up her confidant i also really liked the twist with her character.

Persona 5 Royal is like the Ocarina of Time for modern gaming everything is great if you just don't mention that water temple part or else you might get a horde of fans at your doorstep but other than that everything is great all around

Barely a year since I first beat P5R and since then, I've beaten it again, beat Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology. Now here I am again playing P5R on my Xbox One. Good job pulling me back in Atlus

This game really left a mark on me. I am 33 years old now, so my capacity to be blown away is less and less. Finishing this game left me empty, like I lost an important part of my day to day haha. Immediately turned into one of my top 10 games of all time, which only two RPGs have that honour: Mother 3 and Persona 5.

I swear to God people are sleeping on Haru, she can reflect alot of stuff and her gun damage is freaking insane. She even on my first playthrough halfway killed the reaper with one one shot kill. Haru can be an absolute menace with gun damage if I position her right. I never take Haru outta my party because of that. That being said, I love this game. Not as much as Persona 4 mind you, but this game has it's own vibrate charm to keep me coming back. Is the game perfect? No. But then again no game is TRULY perfect but I really do like both the world and the characters in this game. And this game has the best gameplay in my eyes. I'd honestly prefer Persona 4's characters and story and Persona 3's music, but this game is definitely no slouch in those areas.

Personally if you own persona 5 Royale on PlayStation 4 you should get the five edition for free no questions asked

My thought as well. I bought OG P5, then I bought royal. I own a ps5 now, and it’s full price for the “next gen” version? It’s very off putting

Thank you for the informative review. I'm so far into my PS4 version playthrough (on PS5), I really cannot face starting it all over again even though I have Gamepass ultimate and the remastered version is free on my PC. Maybe when/if I play it through a second time, I will play it on PC again, if it is still on gamepass then, hopefully. If only I knew this would happen, I would have played other games and played this in the "ultimate" version now.

It's even more of an upgrade as I would be restarting on PC. However, as a father in my 30s, I cannot justify restarting the game all over again - when I am quite far into the game. I have too many other games as well in the backlog, just waiting to be finished/started. In my youth, I would have restarted already - having played many games multiple times through. Just no time these days. Adult life sucks. I actually originally tried out the non-royal P5 as I was new to the Persona series. I loved it, so bought P5 Royal and restarted the game again. I believe I had finished the first palace when I restarted, so not too bad. Current playthrough is quite far in, think in November now. I wish I had known about this before, I would just have held off buying P5R and waited for this version on PC. Oh well!

Got started on this last night via pc gamepass and a region change to new Zealand... God I'm hooked. I forgot my love for the franchise having played persona 4 golden and back, but never got on p5 or p5r before. loving how beautifully CRISP and clean the game looks in 4k with 200% res scale, yeah it's incredibly overkill but.. Wow. Im so very glad I didn't have to finally break down and go get a playstation just to finally play it lol.

To be fair, in terms of story, Royal feels like a enhanced version that doesn't want to be a enhanced version due to the amount of backlash from the other enhanced versions of previous got just because of either changed or altered parts of the story or the new character being in moments they weren't in previously, making them seem like they've been shoved into it for no reason. The third semestor isn't really a piece of new story like Golden, it's really an epilogue chapter stitched into the main playthrough and painted over as Golden's new story. Basically, what The Answer in Persona 3 FES was. If they want to save Kasumi's role just for the third semester, I'd say give her the same amount of screen time as, say, Mishima in the main story and have her awakening take place at the start of the story in the third semester. I'm sure you've heard about this plot principle called a Chekov's gun. How it works is if you were to promptly display a certain thing as much in the story, it needs to go off at some point in the story, expectingly in the third act of the story. If it turns out it doesn't go off at all, then why is it there in the first place?

I am very interested in seeing the mods created for this game.

Got the PS4 Digital Deluxe installed on my PS4 Pro, the PS4 Steelbook sitting on my big ol' CRT TV (for PS2/PS3/Wii/X360), Steam for 12% cheaper thanks to Fanatical waiting to unlock and install, and Gamepass version installed on main system if only the game would run in the background so I know it's working whilst I set up my temp OBS setup (though guess could install it to XB1S and capture it in OBS via Elgato HD60 Pro in main system)...

60 dollar ps5? Even if you have the ps4 100 dollar version? Atlus is distorted!

honestly I'm pretty impressed with the performance. I rarely see FPS dips and when they occur it's along the lines of 105 instead of 120, with rendering scale at 200% @ 1440p. I do have a somewhat "beefy last-gen" PC with a 5800X and a 3080, but considering this is a console port it is impressive nonetheless.

Hey! I'm having a similar issue with a cutscene breaking like you mentioned happened with Sojiro once in your video. It's when I try to turn in Jack Frost to the twin wardens for their first request. Anything more specific than just "fiddling with the buttons" To get it working again? Doesn't seem to be working for me and it happens every time I get there even after multiple restarts.

Sadly not, as I didn’t seem to have a problem with Jack Frost in particular. As long as your save file’s all backed up somewhere, I can only suggest reinstalling the game. Sorry. :(

@@TrashorTreasure Turns out I just needed to do the classic "verify game files" on steam and once it redownloaded a few files the cutscene worked properly. So I guess if anyone else gets soft locked in a cutscene like that hopefully you have a recent enough save and just verify files on steam :v

I agree with the difficulty, Atlus should have added a harder mode or have the enemies scale with your personas.

6:55 I see this as a non issue simply because of how fucking massive Tokyo is as the most populated city in the with with approximately 14 million residents ( 12% of Japan's entire population ) , so the Thieves encountering about 100 something assholes if we add all the Mementos missions ( about 0.000007% of the city's population ) didn't bother me

I beat the game once on the original and am still working through my old gen royal playthrough... As much as I love this game Its hard to justify it since I feel I'd waste my previous purchase of the original royal. Maybe ill wait for the next new gen super delux ultra royale with cheese edition that would probably come out in 2024 lmao

Bought this game on Switch for my niece

As someone who’s romanced Hifumi, I’d say that she’s one of my favorite characters in the game. During my Royal playthrough, it was incredibly difficult for me to not romance Makoto (who is my favorite character) and stick solely with Hifumi (of course Kasumi did not help things either). I’m glad that Persona 5 Royal is finally on the Switch, and with all the DLC included too!

You my friend have excellent taste! My number 1 Persona girl has been Makoto for a long time, with Kasumi coming in at a very close second. Hifumi is very under appreciated as well, I feel! Her arc is great and I love her devious change in personality when she’s heavily focused on shogi, but still has it pretty rough outside of her matches.

@@TrashorTreasure Thank you. Even when I played the original Persona 5, it was tough choosing between Makoto and Hifumi (I refuse to do the harem route because the game punishes you for it). I don't know who I'm gonna romance for my Switch playthrough (maybe Kasumi, but it's hard to romance her because you can't do that until the third semester, and I've got to contend with Makoto and Hifumi, making it even more painful). I was introduced to Makoto and Hifumi through the anime, which is not the best version of Persona 5 since it skips a lot of stuff, but they were easily my favorite characters in it and I definitely shipped them with Joker. When I finally got around to playing Persona 5, they were the first confidants I maxed out, with me romancing Makoto in that run. Speaking of Kasumi, it would have been nice if she had joined the Phantom Thieves earlier. It kinda feels like Atlus didn't know what to do with her for the majority of the game. She definitely would have been helpful during the Shido and Yaldaboath (probably misspelled that) fights, especially since Joker needs all the help he can get. Oh well. Nothing we can do about it now, though I have seen a few fanfics where Kasumi plays a bigger role in the story.

Glad I've bought PS4 Persona 5 Royal on sale without any DLCs in the past. Now I can just play the definitive version on gamepass without buying the game again.

Is there a difference between the ps4 royal edition and ps5 royal? I have some of the extra dlc's on ps4 but it seems like the only difference is it contains all extra dlc?

With ps5 u get native 4k/60fps with all dlc on the disk. It's a must if you are a physical game collector.

Yeah, my biggest complaint with P5R is how Sumi was handled. She should've been able to be used in Sae's palace onward, just the option to have her join would be nice but no.(Especially considering I was a scmhuck dumb enough to buy her DLC on the PS4) It's also the fact that it's too easy. Like WAYYYYYYYYY too easy.

I think the only difference is that P5 Royal for PS5 comes with all the DLC and has 4k 60fps. P5 Royal for PS4 can only max out at 4k 30fps on PS4 Pro & PS5

There is no difference except 60 fps on PS5 release. Im happy for all the new players on other platforms but for playstation players the current pricing is a straight ripoff.

And people say 60fps doesn't matter for turn based rpgs....BULLCRAP..... Look at how much better this looks than the aged 30fps version the switch got and at just 720p it looks even worse than the base PS4 version, this is 4K and gorgeous, between the resolution and performance it makes p5r look like a brand new game and completely improves the experience, I've always said the people who say they are ok with 30fps don't have access to 60fps and don't know what they are missing, it has been by far the best upgrade since upgrading to PS5, 60fps has opened up a brand new world I didn't even know I was missing, I always wondered why PC games always looked so much better, I thought it was just the resolution but I was wrong, frame rate > resolution

I haven't seen anyone say that 60fps doesn't matter on any game. However, 30fps is very much playable on turn based games as long as that 30fps is smooth 30 without dips and with even frame pacing (something the Switch and PS4 versions achieve). I played P5 Strikers on Switch and talk about a laggy. That is unplayable for me at 30fps because the input delay and the inability to smoothly follow what's happening on screen, just puts me off.

There really was no reason for them to not allow free PS5 upgrades. They never gave a reason and just asked for us to buy it again. I bought the ultimate edition for my birthday a couple of years back on sale. Pretty sure I only paid 70 or 75. That is a steal since that means I paid only about 10 dollars for all the DLC. I despise how scummy Atlus is being to us PS5 owners. Plus the other Persona games won't be getting native versions for PS5. Petsona was originally playstation only. How dare they pull all this crap.

@@jinchuriki7022 No, it doesn’t bother me at all. The PS4 original still looks fine and I’ve invested a good few hundred hours into it, but since this is a remaster, I have to address the changes to performance. It’s just nice to have options where the game runs smoother and has clearer visuals.
