Looking Ahead to 2023 -The Road to Momigami (Part 1)

In this video project I begin a journal making journey for next year. As part of my preparations for projects in 2023, I'm starting to create a new journal which includes a mixture of frankenpages & Momigami pages.

This is great at this time for me. I have been working on a canvas that I just can't get right, I've been ripping bits off, putting more on, ripping it off. I'm now bored with it. A mindless mess=making is just what I need! Look forward to next week. I have a feeling that kneading these pages is going to be hard on the hands, but I'll give it a go. It will be exciting to have a journal that's different.

I feel like making a mess and this is a cool way to do it!! I will certainly be trying out this- takes me back to my schooldays when we used to do the same sort of thing( many moons ago-haha).Fortunately I never throw any of my paper scraps away(just in case I need them....) so there is a nice stash built up already. Thanks Mike for once again being the inspiration that sparks my creativity.XXXXX

Love this idea for using all the junk mail and flyers. I plan on using newspaper size sheets as a base for franken-pages, which I can then fold or cut down to suit. I will then use any cut-offs for smaller projects. A win-win!

This is an amazingly wonderful idea! I love the aesthetic of this. It's like a master board, kind of, but with really junky papers that I would never use for anything, except to toss them. What a great way to upcycle and make something beautiful from items destined for the trash bin. I like the mix of colors and typography, it kind of reminds me of a kidnapping ransom note...random, I know!

Wow, that's intriguing! And right out of my comfort zone but somehow I want to play along with this idea for 2023! Hahaha!!!! Never heard of momigami until today so it will be refreshing to do something completely new. As for finding a 'scrap' journal base - yesterday I consigned an old brochure to the recycling bin. Today I've rescued it and plan to use it for the base for this project. Thank you for sharing your ideas and process. Looking forward to the next stages. Best wishes to you all.

I've just discovered momigami in the last day and being an avid lover of all things paper, I've been scouring KZread and the interwebs on how to do this. This brings me to your channel. Imagine my delight in not only finding a guy in this female dominated craft, but a Yorkshire one at that (my husband is from God's own country years back, Wakefield to be exact). Anyhoo, I really enjoyed this video and will be following on, albeit a couple of weeks behind. Yvonne

I’m not sure it will crease up so easily so I’m curious to find out with you. Thank you for researching this for us. Have a great week x

Hi Mike! I like where you are going with this Momigami idea. I have one concern though (and hopefully it's unfounded). As I was watching you put all the pieces of paper on with matt medium, I was wondering if it would interfere with the oil (or whatever substance you are going to use to do the momigami technique). Won't the matt medium keep the oil from soaking into the paper? Good luck and TFS!

  • @lindawillis9687

Mike, just wondering if the matte medium will prevent the paper from being crumpled?
