The green rock is copper ore - very nice pieces too! I had those 'Serendipity' books in grammar school in Chicago in the 1970's (around 1976 I think).

This was a ranch. ☀️ The heels are a size 5, they aren't a child's, they are a women's, with small feet. I wore a size 5 until I had my son. Asian women often have small feet. Beth Bartlett Sociologist/Behavioralist and Historian

Love the dashboards in old cars. They were works of art unto themselves.

How did they get those cars up there you ask? Back then, the road was brand new and well maintained. They drove them up there. Also, in many vehicles, they changed the way the emergency brake worked. They modified it so that you could activate only one side of the brake system at a time. Pull up on the brake handle and it locked the left rear drive wheel. Push down on it and it locked the right side drive wheel. This was called a "walker brake". Still used in today's sand buggies. So when one wheel would spin, they would just lock up that wheel and the other one would get all the drive power from the differential. This acted much like 4wd. But the main thing was that they built that road in there and maintained them well while working the area.

That is really interesting! We’re going to have to use that next time we encounter a terrible road and an old abandoned car at the top!

I'm going to say that three different operations happened here. Possibly only two. First, there was a claim filed here for some mineral. Possibly silver or gold. The green rock shows asurite which is associated with copper, silver, lead and gold. This claim was either opened up in the 40s or was re-opened in the 40s from a previous effort. Then probably closed up and abandoned. Then in the 70s. many of these old mining claim sites were taken over by hippies desiring to run a commune or just live off the land with their family. Usually there were more like two or three families together. In this case a hippy family from Utah. They probably had nothing to do with mining. but most mining camps had water so the idea of living off the land could work in their heads. The trailer was brought in during the 40s operation. Many mining camps did this. brought in a trailer, then built a house connecting to it using the trailer for the kitchen. The trailer is from the 40s. I know that because I restore old trailers for a hobby. So first the mining operation, then the hippies moved in. That didn't last long obviously. Perhaps 5 years max.

A Mormon family of two parents and at least 3 children. They stayed until either water ran dry or it became obvious it was not going to succeed, and they made their way back to Utah. They may have had a 4tyh child and realized they were in over their heads. Medical problems with the pregnancy could have made it impossible to stay and it was not reasonable to pack it all up.

Wow! Looks like a Mormon settlement.. chickens, cows, home schooling - The cars look like they were dumped there after having been dismantled (engines , trans and drivetrain) elsewhere maybe by a junkyard. The last truck was a mid 60’s International Harvester and I myself drive some in just a tiny bit better condition ! The pretty swirling banded rock in the fireplace is ‘bullseye’ agate, and we used to rock hound for it around Goldfield. There’s even a ‘pay to mine’ quarry there. It’s interesting to ponder all these remnants of habitation to piece together a portrait of the individuals who built part of their lives there. Thanks for the great video !

Thank you for all of that info Charley! We had a feeling they were more than likely Mormon as well. We just love piecing together a little piece of history to keep their memories alive.

The first car appears to be a 1957 Ford Ranch Wagon. Beautiful vehicle. I owned one, many years ago.

I just started watching you after meeting you with all my favorite people Gly, Frank&Sharon, Mr M, Randy, Jeff. I hope I got everyone. I like your channel. Where you commented about high heels 👠 for children would be dried out ladies high heels. Back before the 1950s A lot of women were very petite, very small feet. My grandmother was very tiny and some other family including some of my great uncles and ancestors were all Tiny people, small feet. I worked in two different museums and stores in Calico Ghost Town, CA and cleaned the room with clothes and shoes belonging to the General Store owner's wife. The clothes, shoes, bed were all too small for now. I hope this helps. Thanks keep on putting pins in the Atas!

That brings back alot of memories,my father and grandfather used to go prospecting near those areas years ago.Alot of ore were being mined like tungsten, silver ,gold,animony,etc and other types of high grade minerals are known to be blasted pulled out during those times, pending on price.

12:15am Central Arizona and I couldn't sleep until I watched to the end. So my take on the small high heeled shoes was because they were mormans originally from Utah and morman girls always wore dresses and sometimes heels. The entire family dressed nice. I was fascinated by all the vehicles tho👍 Another great find you two💯 I so enjoyed this Nevada adventure🏜❤

The refrigerator probably ran off propane, since there’s no electricity, probably a hose in back of it.

When taking in cars in the wild, one should be aware that snakes like to live where the mice might play/nest. Every time they randomly reached in a vehicle I was like nope.

@@PinInTheAtlas I am glad. I have done some of this in my day. I was looking at a ford around a 48 model and was inches from a copperhead lol. Just brought back memories.

Incredible to see vehicles not completely full of bullet holes. I've seen cars with so many holes that if you push on them the whole thing wiggles and flexes! That amber bottle was probably cheap wine from the 40s or 50s. Very cool find you guys, that place was amazing!

You should have seen the looks on our faces when we happened across this place! It is one of our favourite explores so far. So glad these cars haven’t been found and shot to bits as it’s so cool to see them in great shape! Yeah somebody else said it could have possibly been bourbon so either way it’s making me thirsty!

Awesome find!!!! The 1954 Chevy brought back a lot of memories. I learned to drive in a 1953 Chevy. They were very little difference between the two. The best I cam remember was the tail lights. They also had finder skirts on them.. Great video I enjoy your channel. I like to visit the things of the past with the both of you.

Glad we were able to bring back some happy memories, Augustus. We have many more pins to come and happy that you join us on our explores.

When you have an active mine, the roads are maintained, often pretty well. The mines are taxed by the county and they have a responsibility to keep the roads up. When the mine shuts down and produces no revenue the road is basically abandoned. They can fall apart rather quickly depending on weather.

Well Done my Friends.

A friend of mine is 5'6" tall and wears a US women's size 4 shoe, which is super tiny for her height. For reference my height is 5'3 1/2" (the 1/2" IS important😂!) and my shoe size is US women's 8 1/2 (that 1/2 is even more important). I think those heels were adult shoes and the wearer/owner had very small feet. Fortunately for her, my friend could always find the cutest shoes in her size. I wasn't as fortunate, seems a lot of women wear shoe size 8 to 9. 🙄 Loved all the old cars, the elegant lines on those old beauties...😍 The bottle with the roses looks like a Four Roses whiskey or bourbon flask. Love the adjustable shelves in that cabinet next to the fridge!

WOW this was a very intriguing site, for sure. No matter how old the wearer was... (I was thinking the person could have been quite short, 5' or under.) Who would prance around in that environment wearing high heels? I love all of your videos, Andrea and Steven, but this one is one of my faves. It's so eclectic, especially with a child, or children having lived there, as well. Thank you, so much. The high heals could be from a traveling brothel which would visit many mining camps which they had back in those days.

It certainly was an unexpected and interesting find. We spent all day exploring and in search of a head frame which was our initial destination. We think we took a wrong turn. Amazing what can be found taking a road less traveled. Glad you enjoyed it. See you on our next adventure Bernardo

I am surprised that the house has not been vandalized by anyone. Or burned down. I think it would be good to get a anthropologist to that area so see if they can find anything out about who may have lived there.

It’s great when we come across these places that haven’t been vandalized and we want to keep them that way for as long as possible. We’re pretty sure that the site has been picked through though. It would be great to find out more about the history or maybe better leaving it a mystery!

Shoes have dried up, looks like a storage bin for trash to me. People who shoot up anything ;) are idiots. Keep up the good work.

My girlfriend's dad had a old international pickup when I was in highschool over 40 years ago and that thing was a beast!!! It had a granny gear in it that could probably pull Ohio!!!! Very hard to drive without power steering!!!!

Hello, Stephen & Andrea. Just viewed the Mining Camp Nevada Video and it all, especially the Vintage Cars & Trucks. About the Dodge Car, I think it’s a1955 because of the Gear Shift on the Steering Column. Maybe a 1956, but Dodge did have a Push Button Shift on the Dashboard in some models. At 5:08, the Chrome Trim on the Door Panel reminds me of a 1956 Ford (possibly a Fairlane) and they also had two-tone paint jobs. At 22:40, reminds me of a 1949-1951 Ford. Doing a wonderful job. The last car is a 50 model Ford,I think.Or 51.my Dad had one and he cut it off and made a truck out of it.He made a wooden bed and side.boards so he could haul things.🤗love the large steering wheels and the simple gauges.so cool Thank you both.😍👍

This was neatest finds dealing with automobiles. Some are still worth while restoring. Actually you should be checking driver's door frame for the plate. The green in the rock is usually copper. You need to realize that the roads most likely in better shape back then. You didn't take into account ground erosion. Lot things can change let's in 20 to 30 years. It's most likely a Mormon commune settlement. That's why all the children's books. Maybe you should get Tonto a companion so he won't get lonely.🤭

The cars would have been old even in 1973 so I suspect you're possibly looking at multiple families. Small high heel shoes might have been dress up stuff or church close perhaps it was left in the main house and they threw the clothes into another shelter when they moved in and 1973 I believe the book and the closing probably were left because they had outgrew them

That makes sense we have never come across anything like that yet so was surprising to us!

Every time I am out in backcountry like in this video , and My friends & I stumble onto something like this , we ponder as well why people just leave random stuff lying around. 🤔. It is kinda fun trying to figure out “ WHY? Who lived here? , When did they live here? And , When & why did they leave??? “. You have found lots of clues on this one , and I agree with a few others observations in comments posted . I do believe also that the mine and site of homestead were from an earlier Era , probably late 50’s early 60’s and the cars scattered about we’re definitely driven under their own power up there. Maybe once there they were either damaged on way in , or the trip in / out on those old rough mining roads just wore them out from constant abuse. I noticed almost all seemed to have no engines / transmissions/ or suspension components left , and those are the kinds of things that usually get beaten up / salvaged to keep other vehicles alive in remote camps like this one appears. The original miners then probably moved on ( as has been speculated) and another family probably did move in there ( possibly heirs of someone who owned the mine & or property??) and indeed tried to “ Eek out an existence “ in that remote location. Every time We find lots of kids belongings left in a remote spot like this we surmise that just “ Maybe “ the little ones or spouse , suffered some sort of tragedy ( Rattle snake bite,Sickness from weather / conditions , etc) and after dying, and being buried on the property somewhere , the place just didn’t seem that inviting anymore and they sadly moved on leaving so many sad memories behind. Again it’s pure speculation, but it does beg the Question “ What really happened “ in these situations. Sometimes tax records are available if you can find papers with peoples names / addresses on them left behind , but usually all that stuff gets turned into bedding material by the pack rats. You guys at least stumbled onto dates of newspapers , and the concrete front porch dated 1973, so that helped . I really enjoy your videos , HAPPY 2022 to you two, and stay safe in your adventures and travels. Who knows , we may run into each other while out exploring some day 😊👍🤞.

Happy, tragic or monotonous it is still a piece of somebodies history, a place they made memories and we are glad to have been able to show a glimpse into the past!

We are always mindful about that too. This was on public land. Fortunately in Nevada very little has posted signs. Arizona on the other hand is a different story. If it’s posted or no trespassing we won’t venture in unless we have permission.

Thank you Becky, these are questions we have too. 13" of snow...No Thank You! It gets down to freezing at night where we are at the moment, but no snow and no rain which keeps us happy!

Rust free rides. Solid frames and under carriages. That dash instrument panel looked dusty but pristeen.

Strange occurrences in the desert! Upon reading some of the comments, it makes sense the roads were in much better shape back in the day those cars were driven in. Always wondered about that, having seen other channels with all the rusted out cars in desert locations they would never be able to get to now, the roads being washed out. So interesting!

That is a playpen for children, and not a crib. Playpens could keep children contained during waking hours. A 2-year-old can easily escape. My grandchildren have been a wake-up memory.

Books were the cell phones of yesterday. Great find, it wasn't a Caddy but another Pontiac. Watch your six out there.

@@PinInTheAtlas my grandma use to wear high heels even to clean the house. I have some an they are little but we all wore size 7. I think they crammed their feet into them. My great grandmother had button up boots an they were so skinny I only fit in them in grade school. An the girdles were torcher!

I had an adult friend who wore Size 4 shoes. Very small foot.

The thing where all the shoes are is a stock rack for a pickup bed.

@@debbiemclaughlin3460 we think that must be the case as well. At one point we did hear some tumbling rocks, but weren't able to see any cows. As you mentioned their evidence was everywhere!

I think that they all were tired of living in the outback so to speak and they decided to move back to the city. Also think those cars and trucks were stolen, striped and used the parts for the cars and trucks back into the city. You all sure can find some interesting thinks to explore. Those old cars didn't have chrome trim its stainless steel that's why it still looks good the trim on the 55 Dodge is worth bank especially the front hood...

It is copper that turns green when it oxidizes.

Hi to the both of you a really good and interesting video shows how people would travel to the middle of nowhere to scratch a living in the dirt, wonder what they were mining there possibly gold and silver, it also shows how much they wanted a good education for their children those kid's would probably be in their early 50s now, it would be a hard living in that sort of place mining is hard work and probably for little gains the mine could predate the family living there, possibly didn't find much or maybe made a fortune and moved away but probably found very little and just packed up and left while they could, Andrea I loved the little English things that you drop in like your grandma's old Wolseys car and the bottle you picked up with the comment that it could have done Bells whiskey please keep it up I love it, I'm so jealous of what you are doing that is my dream, one day perhaps 😀 looking forward to the next video, the green rock is copper and I seem to think the multi coloured rock comes from Utah so could have been a little piece of home for them, sending love from home where it's a little snowy here in Yorkshire but will probably turn to rain like our typical English weather, keep safe both of you.

I think, they were keeping animals. So, some of the buildings would be for keeping chicken, rabbits, etc. Back in the day, the roads would be in drivable shape, and a car would not have any problem getting there. Also, back then, cars were much more addapted to a rough terrain, since the roads quality were poor. Look at how cars from the 1920-1930's to 1960' were built.

I love watching Jeff Williams and the how to find gold at old mines guys... I think it's great... Just watched a show where 3 lost mines were found when an old map surfaced... No one had walked it in a hundred years ...wow... So keep looking drones would sure be helpful and get those rubber gloves on don't take anything home with you ...like under yer nails...

@@PinInTheAtlas I live in PHX one leg in a chair. Ya know... So I've done a circuit on bicycle 6000 miles. Worked the JJJ ranch biggest in Arizona and timbered in Oregon. Built the DFW cloverleaf Quarried crushers explosives cats and been all over. I would be out there with you but you don't need hulk Hogan in a wheelchair as none of this is handicap accessible.. Gramps was a big rail lawyer and we .saw america by 9 years old. So I always had that bug to go and do something .... So these you tube adventures are my vicarious living. I would just asking be para motoring with Tucker Gott around Shiprock or going for a hamburger on a lawn chair with grandma's bloomers blowing in the wind and a lawnmower stepped on his back... Yeah now that's fun anyone can do ...I think a lot of these derelict places are about to fill up again with folks sick of the city altogether .. I know I'm in Phoenix here on the 33° ...it's an earthquake buffer in between faults so we are stable . We get one storm a year around labor day . And the heat suits me. So... I live in the neighborhood of deformed sguaro cactus in the east hills of Sunnyslope. My home is on the mountain to your left northbound through the 51 curve as it's called every morning on the traffic report. The hills to your left are devoid of houses but the other side the west side is dotted with beautiful homes and is the place where the PHX lights UFO stopped through and it's primary witness Tim Ley lives on 16pl. He bought a digital art studio the day before he saw a half mile wide boomerang cruise the neighborhood... The secret is the cactus. It grows an inch a year. Every saguaro has severe deformations 25" down from the top. Tims saguaro died and fell over so the original witness to all this is the film crews over the years all filmed the mountains and saguaro for it's scenic shot. And the growth ring was evident.... Dozens of saguaros all through the neighborhood are deformed. The anti grav engines really affected the organism. And we have dimensional shifts and vortexes in the hood...man.

Maybe looking for family names in the books and papers you could look into what happened to those people. the kids would probably be in their late 40's by now.

Old cars make good chicken coops

Yes. We took a tour of Keys Ranch in Joshua tree many years ago, we wrote a blog about the experience on our website. They turned an old car into a chicken coupe there as a coyote deterrent if I remember correctly. Thanks for the comment Jack and the quick trip on memory lane!

What a very interesting find but it makes you wonder how they got the cars and trailer up there? Would Morons be into a car chop shop way out in the middle of nowhere ? And the children shoes, clothing, and books meant they had to leave in a hurry or left some things behind like you say?

This is a good find and intriguing. What a shame they left all the books, wonder if that book room was the school room. Maybe the mine went bust and they had no income and no wherewith all to move even the trailer. How sad to think they lost everything.

I wear a 5 to 5 and a half and they are small. So I imagine after time of being out in the weather they would shrink up and look like a child's shoe.

The numbers on the firewall are the firing order for the engine. What looked like a shed with the female clothes looks to be as if it was an old truck cap.

Thats a fantastic collection of autos , there has been some very heavy dissmantling on some of them but still some very use full parts on them ,Ive been quite surprised at times while out 4 wheeling just were you come across a 2wd vehicle .John Keane.

My best guess is that the father was making money on parting out cars ( maybe stolen ) ,might be why they had to split. The remote shack with the childs high heels and bones makes me think that one child was kept out there and fed chicken among other things,but the two long bones give me the creeps.

It was kinda creepy! Who knows what they were doing. Maybe the original family moved on and the place was used by someone else for a while. It’s a mystery!
