Great help, thank you my friend! I was some confuse about 1x1 pixel. But i just got a PNG transparent file, adjusted pixel 1x1 and save with same name of the original file (Garmin_530_2D) paste and replace original file. After this you need to click in popup on up right side and refresh X-Plane 11. Thanks man!

Thanks for the video Russ, it got me going on the right track . I used Gimp create the Garmin_530_2d.png with transparency. At X11 start the popup 530 appeared with a transparent background with with the X11 data blended in and this went with the popup when moving to the Realsim device. However all OTHER screens of the GNS had a black background as expected. Russ, can you please explain?

X-Plane 12.06b2 no longer has the objects that you mention in your video. I think they've made the entire cockpit for their C172 and SR22 to be 3D. Would you be able to suggest how one could get rid of the bezels in such a situation? Thanks so much!

I was successful with the G530 but unable to on the G1000. How is that down?

Followed the video, but lost me on the garmin 530 conversion to 1x1 bit transparent png file, What needs to be done to convert/edit this file?

Harry Gordon you just need to replace the file with a 1x1 transparent png file of the same name. The confusing part was a suggestion to rename and save the original file for future use of the G530 with the bezel.

Thanks for this, Russ. I would emphasize the need to edit the x.png file using the Paint app and the Miscellaneous preference file in Notepad...in Windows at least.

Russ, this is a first rate explanation of the final tuning of a nice kit-addition to XPlane. It all is working well here and much appreciated!

This really helped me out, thank you. It works great with 3D cockpits, but wondering if there's a workaround for 2D-only cockpits? I am using the pop-out bezel-less 430/530s in my home sim, but I still like to use the on-screen virtual cockpit as well. With a 2D cockpit in many 3rd party aircraft, they only come with 2D cockpits, so I end up losing the virtual controls in the bezel. Not a big deal, just wondering if you're aware of a workaround there. Thanks for the informative videos!

Not sure I completely understand your question. Once the GPS window is popped out to a separate window it should be possible to switch to the 2D cockpit view(if available) and the GPS window stays separate and available. If you quit XP11 with the window popped out and positioned it should open in the same position on the next time you start that aircraft, The aircraft must have a G530 installed though, If that doesn't help maybe you could ask again so I get it. Thanks for quick response, Russ. My question did appear to be confusing. To clarify: Pop out window: With your technique, shows no controls/bezel, which is great for adding to a small display mimicking a G430 or G530. 3D on-screen virtual cockpit: The controls/bezel is still shown and interactive as this appears to be a separate graphic file. 2D on-screen virtual cockpit: The controls/bezel appears to utilize the same graphic file for the popup window, so the controls in the virtual cockpit disappear. Until I get my G530 hardware working, still using the virtual cockpit buttons/encoders. Trying to find a workaround to use bezel-less pop-out window for my external mini-monitor for the G530 yet maintain the 2D virtual cockpit controls. I'm testing this on a number of aircraft, mainly the fun Glasair package: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/38438-glasair-iii-deluxe-package/

Okay I see. You are correct there are two sets of graphics files, one for 3D cockpit, and 1 for the 2D cockpit. The popped out G530 bezel is the 2D file(since a frontal view of the screen is 2D) . Unfortunately the workaround Laminar came up in our response to our request for a bezel-less popped out G530 was to make the bezel graphic file a 1px X1 px transparent file and XP would take care of the rest . I don't know how it could be done since the file cannot morph from one use to another. Of course I think 2D cockpits are on the way out. Most airplanes in P3D and many in XP already come with out a 2D cockpit. That is what attracted me to Air Manager. In the past if you wanted to create a home cockpit using the 2D panels on flat monitors worked nicely. Air Manager adds the advantage of interactivity with touch screen control...and now Auduino and Raspberry Pi hardware. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about Planemake can help but I don't know how to do it. Could you use a 3D view straight on to take the place of the 2D cockpit view?

I have done everything that You say, and still the screen on the same resolution inside the poped out window. The bezzels are Just Black. But if Its not poped out, Your solution seems to be right.

Russ I've only just got round to seeing your videos which are great. This one got me thinking that you may be able to help me with the problem I have regarding pop-out G1000 PFD on my desk top computer. The MFD pops out when clicked with the mouse but the PFD refuses to pop out. This only happens on my desktop computer. When I load X-Plane into my laptop I have no problems with either PFD or MFD. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

John Bolton not sure I understand completely. To be sure on our nomenclature when I click the virtual cockpit the 2D display( PFD or MFD) “ pops up”. Clicking the upper right icon on the pop up causes it to “pop out” into a separate window that can be dragged outside the XP11 window. I have noticed that you need to drag the first popped out window off the monitor with XP to another monitor before you can pop out the second 2D display. I noticed this a while back but haven’t tried it lately. If that doesn’t help maybe you can explain further.

@@rbarlow Thanks for your reply Russ, since I sent my request for help I experimented with the preferences script and discovered that my "pop up" was popping up outside of my main monitor out of view. Somehow the co-ordinates had gone negative on the top of the screen. I changed them to positive numbers in the script saved it restarted X-Plane and low and behold I now have my PFD pop up screen back in view. Many many thanks for your very informative video.

Thanks for this, Russ. I did encounter a problem, though. The display starts to persist when the screen changes. For example, I pop up the MSG screen, and when I go back to the mainn display the text from the MSG screen is still there. After a while, the screen is just a mess. Any ideas?

Sally Sparks that is a new one I have never encountered but is obviously an X-Plane issue. What version of X-Plane 11 are you using? I assume you are popping the screen out from a master instance of X-Plane (if you are running it on more than one computer simultaneously). Is the 3D Cockpit G530 screen behaving the same? It should be the same as the popped out GPS. Could your computer be strained performance-wise running multiple windows in X-Plane and acting strangely? Sorry but I haven’t seen this behavior yet.

Russ Barlow I’m running 11.25b1. The screen in the cockpit is ok. The computer is pretty powerful with a 1070 card and frame rates are acceptable. Maybe I should start over with the files and see what happens. Thanks for responding.

I should say 11.2. I don't thinnk .25 is quite out yet. But I discovered this problem only happens when I'm in VR mode. You may wonder why I want an external screen in VR, but I have it where I can peer under the hood and see the screen much more clearly, so it's u seful.

Definitely works for 430 too Double check you modified the correct file…. There are several with similar names

When I click on the upper right corner to drag it the FPS drops by 50%. I realize I have something set up incorrect, but, I have no idea what. Any thoughts ?

hmmmm... since the popped out window contains 2D graphics the pentality is usually pretty low, like 1-2 FPS. Aside from being sure your Graphics card drivers are up to date not sure what to suggest. What CPU and GPU do you have? How many monitors in use? What plugins are you running in X-Plane? What are the before and after FPS?

I can’t find the g-1000 bezel in bitmaps to remove it. Where is it?

Thank you again Russ for your great videos. I followed your instructions and succeeded to remove the bezel with the transparent 1×1 pixel new file. However, for some strange reasons, when editing and translating the values of the miscellaneous file, in order to remove the upper bar displayed, it is not disappearing. And the changes made on the values (0 for top and modified for the bottom) are not memorized when i launch xplane although I save the file before closing it and launching the sim.

I too am unable to get this to work. The popout refuses to popout with the corrected file. I'm wondering if I'm not doing the 1x1 pixel change correctly. I'm opening the file in MS Paint, selecting resize and entering 1 x 1 pixels. Then resaving the file as a png file. Any help would be great thanks. Using X-Plane 11 latest.

Rick Sinclair besides reducing the size to 1x1 you also need to make that single pixel transparent. That aside, to pop out you need to first pop the window up into the XP11 screen as a 2D graphic. You can only drag the pop up within the boundaries of the XP11 window. Then hover your mouse over the upper right corner of the pop up G530 until you see a icon of two boxes (like one popping out of the other). When you click that the G530 will become a separate window from XP and can be dragged anywhere on your extended Desktop you can pop out the G530 with or without the bezel so I doubt the MS editing is your problem.

@@rbarlow Hi Russ thanks for that. I found the issue. The window is now popping out but entirely transperent. I had to move the mouse around quite a bit until I could see just the red left hand dot and the righthand icon. Once I clicked on that the window then changed to an black screen but at least the title bar was visble. I've got some images to so you. I've emailed you before so will use that medium

Got it working. Had to turn on the Avionics (duh). This popped out a completely transparent screen but when clicked for a separate window option all came right. All happy now

Actually you can eliminate the G1000 bezel the same way. Just replace the 2D g1000 bezel file with a 1 px X 1 px transparent . PNG file and the bezel will disappear.
