    My F30 Yamaha outboard started stalling, gasping , choking when I placed it into gear and gave it some gas. It would start Ok and then choke. Often after slow trolling I would stop and then try to throttle it and that is when it would choke and die. Replaced fuel lines, fuel filters and still it choked off and on ... then I replaced the fuel connectors ... BINGO everything went well no more choking ... seems the rubber o rings were damaged over time by my connecting it hundreds of times over 12 years.

    There is an "O" ring also in the male counterpart of the connector. I found mine to be pushed up through the holes where the push pin is.

    Just drove an hour then paid 15 bucks to dock my boat and sure enough I hooked everything up but backwards when I pulled it out to install it properly I popped it off and the ball and spring went right in the lake 🥴🥴🥴

    I'm always shoving something in that hole.... the connector on the motor. Every one of mine gets messed up and sucks air or leaks gas when primed. I'm tired of changing these connectors. Seems like they only last maybe 1 or 2 trips before they go bad. I was hoping they could be repaired. I have wrapped teflon tape around the connector on the motor with some luck in a pinch to create a tighter seal... Even used electrical tape once.

    I have been meaning to upgrade mine, I hear the Attwood 8838US6 aren't too bad. I cannot imagine they are worse then the original. I do agree the entire system is quite poorly designed and seems prone to leakage.

    Question so I'm rebuilding a 5.5hp johnson atm, I need a new male fuel connector, but my question is do I even need one ? The fuel primer bulbs are alot cheaper without the female connectors so maybe If I just get a primer without the connectors on the line and just hard wire the primer into my fuel pump?

    No you don't, I have been meaning to replace these with quality connectors, but they are expensive and have not yet. However The connectors main purpose is convenience.

    Can this cause the outboard to stall during idle if the fuel slowly drips out?

  • @cenkaetaya

    @cenkaetaya

    Most likely not but that would indicate that it's loosing suction. If there is any hole anywhere along the fuel line the engine will have a harder time sipping up the gas.

    @@cenkaetaya thanks for the reply. I have looked along the fuel line and have not found any holes. The only part which i thought may be causing a problem is the connector like in your vid slowly drips, i have ordered a new fuel line and connector but im thinking it could possible be something else. The outboard is. Mercury 125hp 2 stroke i think it is a 1990s or around that year model. Have you any idea what else could cause it to bog out/stall in idle? Thanks for any help you can give me

    @@ANDYYSHAWW118 If it leaks gas then it will suck air also. Every one of mine have done this. The motor will not start cause you cant get a prime or it will start then suck the bowl dry, or it will slowly die.. and you need to pump the primer to keep it running. A real pain in the ass! And the new connectors dont last. I have wrapped teflon tape around the male probe to get a tighter seal. late 80' Merc 115, Evenrude 9.9, and 8. All same problem. I just looked closer at one of my motors and I was able to slip a couple of small o-rings on the male part, and its sealed up real good.
