There's something magical going on right now at the mouth of the continent's largest river. Two months ago, the Mississippi slowed to a relative trickle, pulling a wide variety of fish out of the backwaters they like to hide in and making them easily accessible to anglers.
This week, my buddy Chris Macaluso and I headed down to the Plaquemines Parish port of Venice to sample the action, and we caught a bunch of fish a couple of different ways.

Venice is the absolute best this time of year. My brother and I went down a couple weeks ago and smoked the bass. Zoom Z craw jr in black sapphire was the hot bait. We found that the rows of canes that were most productive were the ones casting a shadow over the water from the sun. It was a definite difference

No, found 88-90 during our trip. Deep, moving water of the river keeps everything just a little bit cooler.
