This song was a cover to Dear John with Ferlin Husky and Jean Sheppard. This version was written by Jack Cardwell of Mobile, Alabama. Jack Cardwell and my Dad Boots Barnes were Hot Dogs of Mobile, Alabama Radio for years.

Half the people who see this don't realize it was BEFORE HeeHaw was on TV and comedy skits like this along with music were a staple at the Grand Ole Opry long before TV... In fact half the people seeing this were born decades after black & white TV, and HeeHaw...

Would you believe that Jody (real name James Clell Summey) was roughly 39 when these were filmed? He was a dobro/steel player for Roy Acuff in the 1930s.

Showbizz Pizza Cousin Jody lost his fingers in an accident, while attempting to level up a house trailer which he and his family were preparing to move into, in a trailer park off of Dickerson Rd. in Nashville. This story was told by the late musician, and music publisher, Buddy Killen, in his autobiography, entitled: "Flying By The Seat of My Pants." Buddy related that he and his wife already lived in a trailer at that park, and it was he who talked Jody into moving there. Anyway, Buddy wrote that apparently, Jody had jacked is trailer up with some sort of jack, and was attempting to place some sort of blocks under it, and just as he was placing the last, uppermost, block underneath it, the jack kicked out, pinning Jody's hand between the block, and the trailer frame!! Buddy related that he was next door, in his own trailer and heard Jody's "blood curdling screams," and ran to his aide, jacked the trailer back up & freed Jody's hand, then called an ambulance for him! I just can't imagine how awful the pain of that was, nor the stigma of loosing 2 a couple of fingers!!!
