Really enjoyed that. I was born in Longton in the 50's before eventually moving out of the area in the early 90's. I still come back to visit friends and family from time to time. Great to see some of the places from when I grew up.

I have found this fascinating, thank you. I am not a native of Stoke on Trent, but it is a place I call home now.

My old grandad Tom Burton was signalman at stoke at that time ,he started there after he had to come out of the pit at cinder hill with dust on the lungs .he started there at 14 years old and was there about twenty five years till he became ill with lung problems .but he still rode his bike from sherwood road in meir to stoke station every day ,then on the way back he got a train to meir station then rode from meir back to little sherwood road off kings mead road which was across from the saracens head pub.sadly he had a stroke at work so had to finish work at 58 .he got over that but at 62 he came down with cancer of the lungs and passed away at 62 in 1976 14 weeks after being diagnosed.he was a lovely bloke I was only a nipper ,6 when he died but can remember him like it was yesterday ,him in his garden and greenhouse my love of garden peas came from him ,helping him pick them and tasting them .

Very neat! My Uncle John was keeper/volunteer of the Staffordshire museum! I was there in the early 90s uncle John was an expert potter as was his daughter, who crossed the line when she went to work for Royal Doulton! Lol

It's still six separate towns, and people think it is a run-down mess today. However, most of those people can't remember the days when a pall of smoke and smog hung over the entire city and all the public buildings were black with grime. In those days a working man or woman who lived much past 60 was looked at as if they were Methuselah!
