What a great shame the reviewer did not research this navigation instrument properly, as to how to determine longitude accurately (not sure how it compares with the Harrison Chronometer). Longines publish the "calculation" and explain how to use it to calculate "The Equation of Time" which adjusts for the fact that the earth's rotation around the sun is less like a pure circle and more like a figure 8 on its side. You don't take it off and align the hands - it is not an astrolabe. Weems book, which taught Linbergh, was used to derive the Wemms watch - a forerunner.

For everyone bitching about the size...yes it's huge, but they did that to be accurate in size to the original which was also this big.

When it's big, people will pay attention. Big watches are here to stay! Only little people tend to make a fuzz about it !

There are also 38mm versions. I'd prefer it in 44mm, but 47mm i also fine.

The reason for being called a Weems is, that in April of 1928 Lindbergh visited the US aircraft carrier, the USS Langley, where he met the man who was revolutionizing air navigation, and who would teach him the art. That man was a young lieutenant commander named Philip Van Horn Weems. (interesting character, look him up)

Lots of people still use Celestial Navigation. for both because they prefer it and others as a backup. and a good watch that makes navigation calculations easier is great for Longitude.

Now that Swatch owns Lemania, it would have been nice to see Longines "bring home" the Calibre 989 for a special edition instead of throwing a rotor onto a generic ETA movement.

I'm sorry but you've got it wrong for the use of the sextant. In fact the sextant is mandatory for this exercice, this watch is just in fact a speed calculator for the little equation that you need to do after using the sextant.

There's an amazing the level of misinformation in this video for someone who runs one of the most prolific watch blogs right now. I just watched a couple of videos, took me about 10 minutes to understand how the watch works. It's really tricky and definitely something I'm not gonna remember, but it's a shame that someone like you can't understand first how the watch works, and then review it. No wonder ABlogtoWatch is just behind so many other watch blogs. You need a bit more of passion while doing this.

Regarding the watch strap fitting, you also could have mentioned that Longines are now making all their watches with bastard lug spacings (19,21, 23 & 25mm) so if the strap doesn’t fit, you are tied to Longines or a custom strap. Good straps in these sizes are hard to come by.

It is unique. It atracks just the ones who searching unusually watches. There is even a Weems in rosegold that goes over 10.000 bucks. It is just like cars who are rare, for example you can drive a Corvette but why not a Delorean?

Luckily there is a 38mm-version that fits normal/smaller wrists so you don’t have to be a NBA-player to use…;)

Oh my god mate. Your explanation of the hour angle and the equation of time is simply inaccurate . Please edit the video, either do a study. The approach to this subject, and I don’t want to offend you, I’m referring just for the watch operation, is very amateur. That’s a good will comment. Cheers.

Once again Ariel does a video without knowing as much as he should, ".....they are called the Weems watch I am not actually sure why but I am sure there is a good reason?" Very poor. Weems taught Lindberg how to navigate he is a highly esteemed author, navigator, inventor of the "second setting watch" that Longines now produce, the one you are referring to, it is not just a simpler version of the Lindberg. It must be good owning your own blog / site, you can get away with completely inadequate reviews time after time, pun intended. And you don't actually know precisely how to use the hour angle? You should start sitting back and just letting people you employ do the reviews, please? www.weemsjohn.com/TheGrandoldManofNavigation.html

Strange interpretation of a control freak, do you not expect an expert journalist to get facts right? And the reason I comment is it is every vid and in this one something that even the laziest person would look at before making a vid.
