Great video! I'm just getting into this but you definitely covered most of what I'm learning...and trying to learn! To reinforce for beginners, the best advice for me was: get in a surf stance near the handle (one foot back even a little helps a lot), line up as best you can and paddle hard and try to match the speed of the wave! woooooo!

Please add HOW TO - going out through the surf; feet position (one foot in front of the other while padding) as I keep my feet side by side. I just purchased a new Sunova - TR3 SUP, I was able to get in the water over the weekend in about 2' surf (That is what my area had at the time), it handled my weight well (220lbs) and paddled great with easy to catch wave with a good "Rocker". Can't wait for try it out in 4 to 5' waves.

Hey guys great vid! Have a question for you, I can finally upgrade to a hardboard but unsure what to get as i have not tested these boards however you guys have! 9/10 im cruising/light touring down the beach or river, however i go down to cornwall every year for a few weeks to surf (only waist to nipple height). Ive been wondering whether to get a used older model of the starboard allstar 14x28 or a sic okeanos (if i can find one) or get a starboard generation 2020 (lite tech). The generation looks really interesting however i have not tested this board, it looks fun to surf but is it any good for touring/cruising efficiently compared to the all star or sic as this is what id use it for the most... It seems to have a decently raised nose for surfing but does it cause alot of drag/loss of efficiency for touring?? Lots to think about, would really appreciate some input! Thank you!

Quick edit, the boards dont necessarily have to be starboard allstar or sic, if you can advise on any other board/brand like fanatic for example let me know, if i could save some bucks that would be a bonus!

@@OnyxPandas Hi Onyx! Thanks for the comment and we can definitely provide some advice for you. If you’re planning on using the touring board in the waves, it is hard to look past the Starboard Generation. We tested this board recently and it performed really well in all conditions (touring, waves, downwind). But like you said, the shape of the Generation does lend itself to performing better in bumps, waves and open water. However if you’re only focussed on cruising down the river and not getting into the racing side, then a hybrid board like the generation would work really well. The AllStar and SIC Okeanos are definitely designed more to race and although you will get a lot of speed from paddling flat water, they wouldn’t have that same performance in the waves. Same would go for the Fanatic Ray. Don’t let the raised nose of the Generation put you off. The bottom shape is designed to still go fast and be user friendly when touring as well. Hope this helps a little with your decision!? I will get Reuben and Will to add their thoughts here as well. Thanks, Beau

my two cents if it matters, a 14 foot board might be a bit too much to handle in the surf. I have an 11'6" and it can ride waves but does feel like a beast! That being said, I can also paddle in rivers and lakes with decent stability so it's a good all around size and I'm a big guy
