Long Vanished College! Metal Detecting Great Old Coins & Relics Lost by Students Over 100 Years Ago

Metal detecting this hard hit spot with the Minelab Manticore produced so many old coins and awesome relics! It was amazing to see all the things I was able to still find at this historic old college site! I've been having so much fun using my new Minelab Manticore and the M8 coil.

Correct,an old socket chisel. You could clean that up and it would still hold an edge better than today's chisels.

Another great haul Greg. Congrats on that beautiful sash buckle and gold gilt eagle button. I read an article on those post CW eagle buttons (1902 and newer) that said if the eagles head is facing left it was a WW1 button, and if facing right it was WW2 and newer. Just thought I would throw that out there. Either way, its stunning! My Manticore just arrived this morning. Yahoo!!!

Excellent work Greg!! Those V nickels are in pretty good shape considering they’ve been in the ground so long. I hunt a park near me that’s been in use for years and it has a hill where people congregate near a flag pole and I’ve pulled V nickels and shield nickels in great shape, I think it may be due to the drainage. Looking forward to your next video, keep at it!!

Hi! I’m so glad you went back to the school site! I just want to mention that the knife blade you found could certainly be a butter knife, it is just as likely a fish knife for the table. Wow, Bubble Gum Pop...never heard of that, wish I could have tasted it!---How do you discern an authentic military button from later, casual productions?---I sure hope you discover that you had the mate to that sash buckle amongst your earlier hunts!---I always enjoy your old photos, & yes, lest we forget, Jesus IS the reason for the season.

There were quite a few flavors there that I would love to try. Luckily, I don't think they repro the Great Seal buttons and I also don't find many repros out there. I have had some friends who thought they had hit the big time when they accidentally found a reenactors field! Hope you had a wonderful Easter. ATB Greg

@@FindingAmerica I spent Easter with my 92 y/o Mom, sorting/shredding old bills. And enjoying frozen TV dinners & store-bought key lime pie (she's a small eater, so specialty TV dinners are just the right size to get a few more calories in her!) Thanx for all your cheery replies.

My guess is a file or a chisel. The rest of the handle may have been wood.

Your mystery item. Looks like an old broke screwdriver. But I bet it's not because you didn't know what it was. It looks like a part of a some kind of old. Some kind of machinery. If it's got threads in the end of it.

Well we all agree as to it being a wood chisel but as a couple other have said it is missing the wooden handle cause a wood chisel for hamming would be closed on the end. And it is most likely for using with a wood lathe.

Why are you digging a lot of junk? I thought the manticore eliminated all that.

  • @FindingAmerica

It's by choice as I dig it all every single time I go out detecting. I am constantly talking about and advocating "digging it all" on the channel. I do not use any discrimination at all when I am detecting and run the machine with the horseshoe on which is running it in all metal. I dig all the junk because I want to and because so many of the things featured in my videos ring up with the same VDI number as trash does. If someone wants to notch everything out that might remotely be garbage and just cherry pick high tones they can do that but they will definitely be leaving a lot of amazing finds in the ground when they leave. If a person is not digging trash out there they are missing out on a lot.
