"Long time no see!" Valery Gerasimov meets with SCO colleagues at Peace Mission exercise
The armed forces of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries need to be ready to jointly counter new tactics of terrorists, in particular attacks with the use of drones, Chief of the General Staff General of the Army Valery Gerasimov said at the command and observation post of the Peace Mission 2021 exercise.
"It is necessary to work out the issues of combating unmanned aerial vehicles, ensuring information security, preventing terrorist attacks using chemical and biological weapons," the head of the General Staff said.
"The situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the creation of prerequisites for the growth of security threats in the SCO member states were analyzed. We agreed to hold systematic consultations between our countries to prevent the overflow of destabilizing processes on the territory of the SCO member states," Gerasimov said after the meeting.
According to him, SCO experts consider the export of terrorist activity, complication of humanitarian aid in connection with the influx of Afghan refugees and an increase in drug trafficking to be the main threats emanating from the Afghan direction today.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent intergovernmental international organization. Its participants are India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The joint anti-terrorist command and staff exercise of the armed forces of the SCO countries "Peace Mission 2021" ended on September 24 at the Donguz training ground in the Orenburg region, for the first time a military contingent of Belarus took part in it.
