    A well thought out and carefully considered review. The only thing is you don't show the DCC fitting procedure that you talk about. Maybe keep the camera on during such adventures? Thanks for uploading.

    Completely agree . I have Brutus in TPE and a DRS Compass one . They are amongst my favourite details . They look and feel a quality product . No issues in running them . I just hope that the Mk5s arrive before someone changes the colour scheme !

    Great review as per usual👍 I have a couple of Dapol 68s & like you the TPE livery has over taken the DRS as my personal favourite. I’m still waiting to sound fit my locos, but roads and rails offer some great decoder/speaker options. Overall a fantastic modern image model, although my layout is based on the WCML I’m tempted to buy the Accurascale TPE coaches. Cheers John b 😎

    Excellent and spot on review - love my Dapol TEXL "Splendid loco I received last week, works well on my small demo straight; it is extremely detailed, good price for £136 (Hattons), excellent livery. Dapol has achieved a very high degree / level of locomotive for this price compared to other manufacturer's producing less detailed loco, QC's issues and now charging over from £220 for Non-Digital Loco - pure madness from the

    Really great review there. As I said on the running session video, these are fantastic models and it's easily one of my favourites to run. It's a shame that the panel lining hasn't been included on the body sides (and this is the first time I've seen that, as I've only ever really looked at the model and not the prototype to this point), even though I really like the livery as is, it would have made the model look a bit better. The fact that Dapol can produce and sell these models for such a lower price than competitors is really astounding. I wasn't aware that you could take the exhaust vent off to get at the lighting controls. That's quite a neat feature. Like you mention in the review, I have had to trim the coupling hook to stop it catching on pointwork. Though only the front one which I have fitted, as it's not coupled to anything. The rear one isn't an issue when it has a load pulling on it. Can't wait to have the Mk5s to go behind this when they land. Cheers

    Another great review. I recently picked up one of these and got an extra DRS bodyshell from Dapol which I found out about from your video last year. £15 is a bargain for those! Very excited to have the Mk5s to run with it, saw the samples at Ally Pally and they look excellent. It is a great livery, tempted to get the Hornby TPE 802 too

    Excellent review. Echo everything you say though mine is a DC version. These days that’s a bargain price for this detailed a loco. However, it proved to be extremely costly… My original plan for layout was for Teesside-inspired in mid/late 1960s. Had to have one of these, though, with Accurascale MkV coach pack. Now I’m committed to every type in and around Thornaby depot across 60+ years of my lifetime. Worth it though!

    Another spot on review of these excellent models Eugene. I have 5 of these models which I bought when first released, and touch wood all are still running perfectly. The only fault I have with them is the kinetic coupling, which has the same fault as Hornby class 60, throwing the wagon/coach next to loco off the track on curves. In my opinion this move by manufactures to kinetic coupling on locos, wagons and coaches is not a move in the right direction, they stick and cause derailment also springs launch themselves into outer space, or one end come adrift. I look forward to your slightly different and interesting videos in the coming weeks, if they are as good as your previous videos they will be most welcome, Bill.

  • @EuviRail

    @EuviRail

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Bill. Yeah, I have mixed views on Kinematic couplers. With any kind of jerky running from the loco you can get the bunjee effect as the springs on two adjacent coaches oscillate in opposite directions. If the springs come off or the support posts break then you can be entering a world of hurt. There is room for a more robust alternative design here - a patent opportunity for someone.

    I love the Dapol Class 68 - like you I have both the DRS and TPE liveries (the TPE one with a similar plan to match it with the Accurascale Nova 3 coach set). I thought that this was a very good review - and I completely agree with the sound comments. The Class 68 has an incredible bass rumble, which small speakers and some sound projects render as a grating high-pitched whistle. I've fitted EarthMover 1 speakers and that gives much more of a prototypical sound. I found your comments on the panels on the side of the real 68 very interesting - Dapol could definitely improve the look there. But overall I agree that these are great locomotives. And while they don't match the Hattons Class 66 in detail or pulling power, they do run well out of the box without having to resort to major surgery. Still, I'm looking forward to those Accurascale Deltics for comparison - they promise to be really impressive!

    Just to make people aware that replacement complete body shells of the late DRS livery are still available directly on the Dapol web site at an amazingly good price, just £15 + P&P. Intrepid 68002 and Defiant 68005 shells are currently showing at amounts of 17 and 18 in stock respectively. Swapping shells is so easy on this model so perhaps people might consider not buying a whole new loco but instead swapping to a different shell? Saves money! Thanks as always for the sterling work on your channel Eugene. Please check out my new KZread channel showing my evolving OO layout Valebridge, if you haven't already. Regards Julian

    Hi Julian, thanks for that reminder on the body shells. Even if you weren't going to swap out right away it would be handy to have one in case of an accident with one of your existing 68s. I love the layout - you have a great amount of space there. A lot of familiar trains as well as some US locos! Well done.
