long range pellet testing a custom AA s200 CZ barrel in the Anschutz 9015

Спорт

What is the best competition pellet? testing the upgraded cz barrel in the Anschutz 9015
today i test the jsb exact heavy against the air arms diablo field and H&N 8 and baracuda ft in both 4.50 and 4.51 head sizes
groups are shot at 50metres in a strong wind to compare wind drifts with the idea to push them out to over 100yards
the cz barrel ran the H&N pellets really well and definitely an improvement over the factory anschutz barrel. the twist rate is also very similar to that of the walther barrel in the air arms xti50 that thrashed the 9015 at 100 yards last week

    Hi, I love watching your extensive pellet testing videos. I’m always wondering which pellet would be best for my HW100, and conflicted about my actual ability to make a judgment because I’m a relatively new shooter. So here’s an item you might find interesting and could possible try it for content. I was watching the latest Hot Air video, which was a Q&A. Pellet testing was included, with this method being suggested. Clamp the rifle (he used a mill clamp) then fire 5 shots at close range (4 yards) then compare the results, I’ve tried it by making a wooden clamping method and think it works. My results for spread were Super Field - 7.2mm QYS - 5.0mm and the surprise for me was H&N Field Target Trophy 4.5mm. I think this method may quickly identifies if your barrel likes the pellet. I’d previously rejected the Field Trophies as not as good as QYS.

    After years of using AA Fields 4.52, we have both just changed to B8's 4.51 in our FWB800's and found they did not need a re zero and are performing as well as our old AA's. Also find they do take a little more wind, but seem to be predicable on our clubs FT circuit. As many have found the Barracuda FTs are our pellet of choice for the clubs 25 yard BR

    Another great video Tommy. I always look forward to watching these at the weekends. Was wondering whether you should check that the zero is the same for the H&N Baracuda FT pellets as it is for the JSB Heavy. If they already drop low and right at the zeroing range, then this would need to be allowed for at the longer ranges.

  • @tillysgunstocks

    Hi mate thanks for being a part of the channel 😉 You're absolutely right I really should have checked the zero with the ft's .. however I've got a bit of further work to do to the barrel. I need to sleeve it a fraction as the od could be a better fit in the 9015 breech block. I'll cover that down the line aswell as seeing if there's anything to be gained by indexing it, which can be done easily in the current configuration. So didn't bother to check this time,more the dispersion of the groups. Once I get a stripper fitted it'll be nerdy fun fine tuning it all .. Def some mileage in the ft's I reckon though...😉

    Good video, really shows the effect of wind well. Serious question, why are you testing at 100yds? Not asking to criticise, genuinely interested. Of course there is the just out of curiosity, which we all understand 😀. I am just wondering if you have a real world application in mind for shooting sub12 at 100yds? Bench rest is usually 25yds (indoors) and HFT at max, what 50yds, would it not be more useful to test out to say 55yds. Even long range BR is usually indoors. Like I said zero criticism, just interested to know how you will be applying the knowledge you gain. I can't really see any real world application for 100yd shooting, other than long range BR (I believe US BR is over 12ft lbs). Still fascinating to watch though & like the methodical approach 👍

  • @tillysgunstocks

    @tillysgunstocks

    Ай бұрын

    Hi mate, well there's a lot of reasons really. I guess the most important is I love the challenge of pushing myself and our usual gear to the limits There's also a lot of stuff in the vids that is very useful for more normal applications, the extreme ranges massively increase any imperfection in the setup and make it all more visible than at say 50yds. It helps me get a better idea what is going on,albeit at a smaller scale at the closer normal ranges. (Think of the huge elevation change in some of the older long range groups) We barely notice that at our usual ranges but it's there... I'm going FAC later this year too, so all and any experience at the longer ranges will be useful when I've got 50+ftlb on tap. It's be fun to get over to the USA for a crack at the EBR and it's night and day different to traditional br here. So quite a few reasons really,and it's super fun... Dropping them long targets really gets the adrenaline going 😉

    @@tillysgunstocks All solid reasons. Always good to perfect the gun set up & really good point about the imperfections being magnified at range.
