@@santiagosknowitall6954 not saying it doesn't require talent, I just don't think it is a sporting or ethical way of hunting. Animal has zero chance to know you're there, so minimal "hunting" skill required. There is also more margin for error with the shot, or simply the animal moving before the bullet reaches it. So more chance of wounding/slow death. Same talent could be put to use target shooting.

My best and most memorable kills have all been within 50 yards, quick and clean. All bragging size animals by the way. Getting close and doing it right makes you a hunter. I can hit a 10"steel plate regularly at 700 to 800 yards though and that's fun. Nothing suffers and runs off wounded. I have made the mistake of taking long shots like these and the results weren't quick and clean, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Lesson learned.

I wonder how many of those wounded bears were recovered? I am 65 and have hunted since I was 18. I have taken many animals. Never once did I take a shot over 350 yards. I stalked in closer as I never wanted to wound an animal and have it run off to die a lingering death. I can honestly say I’ve never lost an animal. One did run for over 400 yards and it took me half a day to track it. I was sick over that - all the needless suffering I created because I didn’t use enough cartridge. I am sad to see that this video is what hunting has evolved into today - long range sniping. Many of those shots were not clean, quick, kills. And many were going to require hours of tracking. Many of those bears especially. Here is a truth that these would be hunter-snipers need to learn: On elk and bear - to reliably anchor the animal you need 1800 foot pounds of energy at the impact point. Past 500 yards, there are only a few cartridges that will generate 1800 foot pounds of energy. It is easy to figure out your maximum range. Look at a ballistics chart and see at what distance 1800 foot pounds is reached. That should be the maximum distance at which you shoot elk or bear sized animals. Most cartridges will max out that 1800 foot pounds at less than 500 yards. I know of no cartridge that will retain that energy at 1200 yards. Any shot at elk or moose or bear sized animals that exceed that 1800 foot pound range is quite simply an unethical shot. For deer and antelope sized game, 1200 foot pounds are needed for a clean quick kill. So those species can be shot at a farther distance because it takes less energy to put them down. But again, it is really easy to figure out - just look at a ballistics chart and see where that 1200 foot pound range is. That is your maximum ethical shot distance. Most of these hunter-snipers do not understand these hunting principles. They were trained in the military where their target was other humans. Humans need much less energy to put down then do any of the other species. Just because you can hit an animal at a particular long range distance does not mean that the bullet will retain enough foot pounds of energy to anchor that animal. Without the necessary energy, all you’ve done is wound the animal. There’s nothing to be proud of.

There's a lot going on here. There's some extremely good shots, with an instant kill where the animal just dropped where it stood. Then there were some appalling shots where I doubt the wounded animal was ever retrieved. I also have to ask myself if some of these guys are just thrill killer's, who never intended to hike a mile through rugged terrain to claim their prize. Even if you do try to harvest your kill, how much can you carry out of the hills on your back? No, I think if you're going to hunt Game, do it so as to ensure a quick kill and harvest the whole thing.

Every time they will search for the animal and if its only wounded they will search as long as it needs to find it.

Lionheart XVa actually thats not true. I know what you mean, but thats only the case for smaller calibers - a bigger caliber like the ones used in the video will destroy the fragile lungs even though it’s hitting a little further back. Most of the shots hit at least close to the lungs as well. The problem is, that you cant guarantee a killing hit on that distance. The chance of hitting somewhere, where its not immediately lethal is just to high. I think in one clip they just hint the legs and the filmcrew is telling him to reload and shot again

  • @LionheartSJZ

    @LionheartSJZ

    4 жыл бұрын

@@horstlange1733 Thanks for the clarification. The largest calibers people usually hunt with is .30-06 / 8x57 which is enough for the wild boar and deer we have here and I've witnessed searched that lasted for 12 hours and went over several miles, especially with wild boar that have been shot in the guts. There was definitely no damage to the lungs there, even with a .30-06 / 8x57. I wonder how large the difference in energy is between a .30-06 at 120 yards compared to a .338LM at 700 yards. I think every hunter has had a bad shot sometime in his hunting career and those negative experiences are usually the ones that haunt you for years, motivating you to become a better, safer and more proficient shooter. I couldn't imagine taking those risky long-range shots just for the fun of it and walking away as if everything was fine.

You have a long way to go. AZ is not a POS. I won't go down to your level and use your kind of language but you should know that your view is narrow minded and angry. Grow up. Our sport has enough obstacles. In my opinion, promoting this type of irresponsibility only adds fuel to the fire for those who choose to label us as killers. What we need to be promoting are enjoying the thrill of the hunt, sharing it with our friends and family and the fact that a clean, ethical harvest is what we always strive for. Shots at these ranges are simply for the thrill of the kill and not the hunt and the odds of missing or worse yet, wounding an animal are extremely high, especially for anyone that watches your videos and thinks with a few shots at their local gun range, they can make an ethical kill. Help preserve our sport by teaching our youth and newcomers properly and responsibly.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm 36 and have been hunting in some aspect for 30 years now and the longest shot I've ever taken was about 300 yards......on feral hogs destroying a wheat field! I cannot think of a reason why you should be making a 400+ yard shot on any "game" animal. Now on and invasive or destructive species....perhaps.... maybe. Just because it's legal doesn't mean that it's ethical. This is pure ammo for the gun grabbers!! @ 10:20 they are shooting at a silhouette of PART of a deer in thick grass and that's just plain lazy. Coming from an avid hunter and scout sniper who has experienced hunting man and beast, all I have to say is don't get sucked into this crazy crap. The chances are that at ranges over 500 yards you will most likely wound that animal to never be found, and I absolutely will not shoot at any game animal farther than 500 yards in absolutely calm wind conditions from a prone position. This is coming from a professionally trained sniper. Hunting these beautiful animals deserves the utmost respect. Just seeing someone who has not been professionally trained shooting at these distances is pure D bullshit for the beautiful animals we hunt. Whoever has these kids shooting at our game animals doesn't care enough about the animals to teach them how to be a good hunter to begin with.

As much as I like long range hunting, and seeing some good "one shot drop" hits, some of the commentators have a good point. shooting at very long range I'd save it for milk jugs, varmints and coyotes. It also is good practice and test of skill. But the moral of hunting is to pit your skills against the animal. The animal has to have a chance, and shooting it at 1000 yards when you can stalk it and get up to 200 to take a shot. tells something.

Hunt for meat or for pest control, not to boost your ego shooting animals at your bait stations, if you were really hunters you should be able to close your distances and get a better chance of a clean kill.

Most of these people are hating these shots at such long distances, but I've been hunting since I was 10. I've never taken a shot outside of 300 yards. So i watch some of these shots and think, "wow that's amazing." But some of the shots were a little iffy or just off. I hunt with a 30-06, and I know the limits of my weapon. If you can be precise in your shot placement, and you take excessively long shots and you know you're going to hit your mark, you better be feeling that "buck fever" after you take that shot. If you're not you're just in it for the kill and I do not respect that. The day I stop shaking after I harvest an animal, is the day I will stop hunting. I hunt to put food on the table, not to kill unnecessarily. Respect the hunt and harvest. Only take long shots if you HAVE to. That's my two cents.

I love how everyone in the comments is either the most ethical person in the world, or a literal sniper lmao. Just because its farther than you are comfortable shooting doesn't mean its unethical guys.

That's true to a point, there's some pretty shitty hits with excessive delay. Get closer, a bigger gun, the lack of respect for the game pursued is disgusting-super sniper.

Yeah same but u can't be ethically accurate at a range over 500 or so yards. And it's not like they couldn't have gotten closer

And after reading some of the comments it’s sad that some people are hating on your long range shots but don’t worry most are just KZread Warriors who like to Criticize others and have probably never shot at that distances or held a gun a day in there life’s so once again good shooting and great hunting

You would almost think it was a bloopers real. Long range hunting should me 400 yards after that it's not hunting. I hate seeing hunters with poor ethics.

this. a lot of times hunters are just wounding the animal since the bullets lose so much kinetic energy. it's unethical IMO but we all have our own ethics
