20:22 I never thought I'd see TSW 4 turn into a horror game, but here we are. The atmosphere is pretty great and you definitely felt abandoned. This walk-around reminds me of the game INFRA

I think the Loyalty discount should be more like 60%, for this route at least.

For context: The MTA’s concerns for train stealing is actually real. There are cases of people stealing keys and stealing trains on the Subway. Does this make it okay? No way because while it actually has happened, it’s still extremely rare and I haven’t heard of someone stealing an LIRR/MNRR due to its far more complicated method of startup/more advanced signaling and operation standards then the Subway and there usually being two to more conductors on a Train aside from the Driver. Maybe during the 70s to the Early 80s but unheard of today.

Waiting for sale. Would've been worth it if they actually did more modern-day stuff. For example, Triple tracking the main line, adding elmont UBS Arena station because Belmont is not in use anymore, adding the new platform at Jamaica, extending Forest hills because now it can support up to 8 cars instead of 4, adding Grand Central and finally updating New York Penn Station to what it actually looks like. But nope, u add the M9, which arrived in 2019, and keep the setting of the route in 2017-2018 with a 2021 timetable. And I feel like they did that just so they didn't have to do that stuff I said above. And when it comes to branches, we could've also gotten West Hempstead and Far Rockaway along side Long Beach beause they're also super short. That would've been worth the price of what it is now.

Even a couple miles isn't short. It doesn't get made in just 5 minutes. It's 5 miles of modeling everything in that 5 miles. That is a lot of dev time

I agree that more branches should have been added besides Long Beach (Far Rockaway and West Hempstead especially), but this route is a far better improvement than that God awful original LIRR route. It's not 100% by any means, but it's probably the best US passenger route besides Boston Sprinter in terms of services.

I agree with this review. Console users didn't even get any sort of discount, and I do think it's overpriced. This should've been $20-$25 max. The Long Beach Branch, whilst nice doesn’t add much, really. They didn't even bother adding the Far Rockway or West Hempstead Branches. Far Rockway Branch is only 5 miles from Valley Stream, and West Hempstead is 4 miles from Valley Stream. Once you leave Penn Station and Jamaica, the lines do get much quiter. The scenery whilst better isn't a major improvement, especially on the main line/Hempstead Branch. The route in TSC looks so much better. DTG modeled the singaling wrong on the old route so the singaling system had to be redone from scratch. But I don't think that justifies a $40 price tag. Players shouldn't have to pay full price for something that should've been working from the start. If Triple A companies did that, there would be a load of backlash. As for why Grand Central Madison wasn't included, it apparently was a licensing issue due to security concerns. Also, there were teenagers that managed to get into an MTA NYC subway train that was parked in a siding in Forest Hills, Queens They managed to start the train up and moved it a few feet. I didn't realise that the discounts didn't apply to console players. That only furthers my belief that DTG were being rather scummy with this add-on's pricing. As for the signaling upgrade, while it's good to finally get a realistically busy schedule on this route, DTG should be ashamed of themselves for releasing the original route with dodgy signaling.

5 miles or 4 miles is still a ton of modeling and requires a ton of effort. Even 1 mile is a lot. You should try building a full route to see how easy it is

You said it right. Anything American they half ass everytime. Since tsw2020 we’ve not gotten shit for American freight they just tease with NPC’s and freight cars in yards and sidings. It takes actual effort to create those timetables which is why they don’t do it. Too easy money to just keep pumping people for multi unit commuter routes that are short and dull. But there are so many players just brainwashed and have a bare minimum expectations bar.

There's nothing wrong with sales or reducing prices. It happens with many games all the time

(if i remember correctly) In some videos of cab rides which show the cab of DB trains, some procedures have to be cut because the DB are also worried about train theft, or something similar.

Honestly, this route isn’t as bad as other DTG products. Yes, it has many issues with the cars, scenery, etc, but for DTG standards, this route wasn’t as rushed as other routes, such as NY-Trenton.

It wasn't rushed because most of it is the exact same route. They only added 10 miles of track plus the track via St Albans and minor improvements overall scenerywise.

There's actually 4 total services in timetable mode to/from the LIC area as Hunterspoint Ave trains start/end at LIC (all M9s) -1621 (7:06 Hicksville to Hunterspoint Ave, then light move into LIC) -4800 (9:12 LIC to Jamaica, then light move into Jamaica Yard) -4857 (15:24 Jamaica Yard to LIC) -2068 (17:13 Light move from LIC to Hunterspoint, then Hunterspoint Ave to Hicksville)

I'll have to disagree with your closing comments. I think it's long past that DTG will ever get TSW to realize its full potential. The game peaked years ago in terms of interest and quality. These days, it all just looks like they're sending rough plans to a 3rd world sweat shop to do the actual route building and then doing a quick and fairly non-existent quality check before sending it out the door with flashy marketing. There are $10 indie games with more polish and heart put into them by developers than the overpriced crapware that DTG keeps churning out. But more power to them. They've found a niche with whales with deep pockets that will keep buying and buying low quality product at high high prices. Any business would love to have an easily fleeced clientele like this.

I reckon the MTA are a bit cagey about isolating things in the game is because there is a guy over there who is a transport fanatic and he hijacks buses and trains. He has autism/aspergers or something like that, he used to wear a full uniform and drove the buses and trains exactly as per the MTA staff. Its kind of a tragic tale. The people who support him say the MTA if they were to employ him, he would be a model employee as he would follow all the rules and regs to the letter.

according to some reddit threads the MTA actually allows trains to run really close to each other sometimes, so even though the AI behavior described at 13:40 looks really weird, it's actually realistic! there are videos of it happening IRL on youtube I think.

I like the sound of the m7. It reminds me of the ÖBB 4744. The new concept of activated safety systems is something i personally like for the reason that i prefer playing all routes with them activated. My preferred concept would be to have an option in the menu to choose whether you want it activated by default or not. Something I really like about this is to have a network of branches and routes instead of a single long and linear route.

Honestly, the Babylon branch would’ve been a better fit for the game. If DTG wanted to cut the branch short, (just like how they did the main line to Hungtington, and Ronkonkoma), they could’ve added part of the Babylon Branch, and probably ended the Babylon branch at either Seaford, or Massapequa Park

Also to add, in real life MTA has had people trespassing on rail property and actually move trains in the yard. That's the reason why they made the changes. You can see the videos of those fools moving trains on KZread and they have been getting caught.

I wasn't surprised that the MTA told them to dumb down the trains. Recently some idiots got on to trains and basically stole them. A lot of trains are laid up at night between stations and not in yards like a lot of other transit systems. All in all, this is the way the LIRR should've been released in the first place.

I personally think that is a dumb reason, because your trains are being stolen by a bunch of immature Muppets. You have to dumb down the trains for a train simulator. I find complete and utter flaws in that logic, because you can still get the original Long Island railroad route with the original unmodified M7 which you can turn off their safety systems if that’s the case, then they should realistically pull the original Long Island railroad and then say look we’ve had to pull this off of the stage due to safety concerns from the MTA But they can’t, because the original Long Island railroad is embedded with the New York to Trenton and I think another route that needs it don’t quote me So they can’t pull the route at all, so you’ve got one route with trains with dumb down safety systems because of dumb arse morons to hijack trains because they think they’re cool and one with the option to turn them on or off Logic is completely flawed. It’s like okay I reckon it was more dovetail personally so that they don’t have to model any other new existing systems so instead, just make it easier for people. That’s my honest opinion, but I am very surprised that this route isn’t as dovetail as it should be. I know one person said because it’s using percent of the existing route, so was New York to Trenton that was using the original New York to Trenton route before it got extended and they did what they usually do, and operation doesn’t test games But honestly, I believe that the MTA part is just a load of crap because if that was the case why can you still actively buy the original Long Island Railroad Road? And if that was the case I would also dumb down the safety systems in trying like the classic, I don’t know if the safety systems and that game are gonna be dumb down but if that’s not the case then yeah suspicions grow bigger

It expired. Every license has an end date. There were a lot of internal changes happening during that time and gwr don't see renewing as a priority

With the licensing requirements, that was the hugest disappointment for me, since, as someone coming from the Flight Simulation community, trading realism for label is unspeakable. When I said on the DTG forum that I hope someone releases a mod bringing those features back, I was literally attacked, confirming that the population of the DTG forums are braindead bootlickers.

Grand Central Madison should’ve been added since they were only going to Long Beach, in my opinion. The Long Beach route doesn’t add much dynamic field to this. They could do the Babylon branch and connect the Babylon train station with Hicksville because I know something going back to the city from LI they would route the diesel express trains through Hicksville going to Jamaica. Plus, they could’ve added the third track they built between floral park and Hicksville for the express train as well.

So, just an honest question here. Do you watch the preview streams from Dovetail at all, whether live or on catch-up (after they have been shown live)? They do give an explanation as to why certain things were or were not done. On a personal note, I personally wouldn't have bought this full price, I would have waited for a sale.

Yes the stuttering on the New York to Trenton route was fixed months ago and the route plays a lot more smoothly now. Of course that route still has its other issues but I still suggest doing a few more runs on it. On that note an Acela enhancement mod was just released on the TS community website and it sounds even better than it did before, as well as a minor update to the NJT enhancement pack.

DTG shouldve done a free route update and the M9 seperate , this full price bs is a rippoff Also imma nickname it M-Nein , just annoying and stupid that they removed all the case of it being in TSW , IE doing Sh*t 😒

I wouldn’t had any problems with dovetail if this route was costing the same as the “New Journeys expansion pack”, I don’t necessarily pretend things for free. But for me that I already own the original route, this update for the full price of a new route felt like a slap on my face. I delivered to them my opinion too much honestly and they get offended but I don’t care, I’m not gonna buy this scam update until its pricing is gonna get reasonable, which for me is the price of the “New Journeys” pack or lower. Considering that the original route should always have been better, I consider myself quite generous.

Wait 2-4 weeks it’ll be half off for a few days as they always do. People to stupid and impatient obsessed over game trailers so they preorder or buy on release day paying full or near full price when dovetail will have it half off couple weeks from now as they have done EVERY SINGLE TIME. Think about when they released TSW4, went from full price to like 15$ to 8$ to free on game pass in less than two months.

Steam sales keep making me buy TSW versions when I hardly play them anymore. I should be happy with what I have for a casual simmer. Two routes I would VERY much buy if ever released are Toronto based ones - TTC Line 1 and Go Transit

As a PS5 player I got no discount and I purchased LIRR when it first came out on TSW2

DTG wanted to get Septa (Phillys) transport authority, but they said no because like mta how mta was so strict this time around, they didn't want people stealing their trains.

Have you been to Sydney (as you have a shot of a B set)?? If so, what's your favourite train there overall? Personally speaking, the K set is my favourite, being a classic on the network.. Another question, but what impresses you most about the network? For me, its the schedule in peak hour, its more than hectic. That was a good review, and as I don't have the original addon, I'm pretty impressed and its probably close to (if not, my) favourite addon. The M9 is certainly a good unit to drive though.

No. That footage of the B set was recorded by an old friend from high school; she lives in Sydney these days. But I do have a favourite Sydney EMU; it's either one of the Waratah variants.

LIRR is very strict with their routes and their trains. So, I won't put 100% of the blame on dovetail. American commuter routes in general are super hard to come by due to the insane regulations the companies put on developers. It even stretches to model trains as well. Its hard getting commuter style transit in model form. Don't get me started on subways its next to impossible.

It was overhauled by cactusjuice aka brandon who also overhauled it on Boston sprinter so it will work. However due to the dispatcher acting funny, you will end up getting red light issues

The pricing of DTG is just insane, i always wait for atleased a 50% discount. (Sorry for my bad english im from the netherlands)

Another smashing review. This route unfortunately is up there with others as one of my faves minus all the negative points you raised in this as well as the original review of the LIRR. And for that reason you've literally saved me £30GBP. Your point on the WSR update being free, and this being payware I agree. Couldn’t agree more, this route is a fan favorite especially if you live on Long Island like me. As realistic as the alerter and speed control are in real life, it takes away the fun from driving in the game.

Agreed but unfortunately mta said no. When they made the orignal they didn't care as much but when this was made the mta was heavily involved hence why it was delayed. Overall I don't think it should be charged as a full route. The map and stuff I should have been free and we should have gotten the m9 and the diesels

Route mains should be 40-60 miles minimum with 1-4 5-15 mile branches. People who disagree cry about it your the ones being fucked paying full price for recycled redundant content paying for the same 3 locos 10 times over. Just wait 2-4 weeks this route will be 30-70% off and within a year offered in a bundle for less than 20$

Very surprised how this review was handled. I was expecting you to tear this addon ton"shreds" but you didn't...? Why was this the case Also I should clear a few misconceptions about the LIRR 1. The accident didn't take place in 2010, but in 2017 and back then the speed limit was 10 MPH 2. The Extremely sharp curves at Belmont Park are the reason why the 5 MPH is even a thing 3. Conquesting is a major issue in NYC(As a New Yorker myself I've seen way to many incidents that people actually managed to break into the cab it's a major problem in New York City, but again blame THE MTA for not adding security) 4. The MTA are seeking to replace the DM30/DE30AC because.... Let's just say they HATE them is very big understatement.... The issue with these locomotives is that you can't change them Desiel to Electric from the C3 Cab Cars which iirc Penn doesn't allow Diesel Fumes in their tunnels(Not to mention the LIRR Desiels services across the Network are very very infrequent and only a few of them go towards Jamaica) 5. Huntington is the end of electrification while Port Jeff would be the end of the line I do like the route and actually think the route is good overall... But not FULL PRICE good(Oh and PS. The trains getting stuck are actually a very big core issue that's been since Harlem line which has YET to be fixed:/) but that said great video as always and I look forward to your next review of that "Surprise"(Linke Rhinestrecke)

You did bring up a lot of Valid points, which, even as always enjoyer of this route, I 100% agree with. LIRR is in a much better state than before, BUT it doesn't excuse how Horrifically made DTG made the original Harlem Line... I still have nightmares about it

i think theres a couple of mods out there to disable the safety systems using the keyboard shortcuts if you dont want to drive with safety systems.

I agree that the pricing is crap. However, I could definitely see dovetail removing loyalty discounts in the future. Make the most of them!

The 5 MPH speed limit into Long Beach has something to do with the bridge iirc

The parts of this route I dislike most, is that the M3 isn't fully compatible with the ACSES systems, and also the removal of features on the M7 and M9.

I actually really liked the original, in spite of its faults. I have to agree with you regarding pricing on this one. I would've paid the £11 for the new loco but I'm not paying a full £30 for a route I already own with a few extra stations. Not when I haven't got round to buying Blackpool yet anyway

Any extension includes the old track as well which dtg has to account for in the price because it's not just extra track and train. It's old route + extension + train. That's just how it's going to be for future extensions. It's good for newer players but not great for older players

Well, I guess I'm just going to stick to the Harlem Line for New York. Although in saying that, the M8 would be appreciated. Although I couldn't really believe that MTA were being so strict to DTG, but that doesn't excuse DTG in the slightest. As for the community recording, we could really do with that for the Talent 1

Seems like a fair review to me. LIRR was my 2nd most played route (169/181 services complete....2 of the remainder crash my console and 10 have red signal issues) behind Rapid Transit so it's impossible to justify spending another £30 for 15 unique miles of track and an extra train. The other thing is, console gamers don't get the loyalty discount so if you don't subscribe to gamepass ultimate (as I don't) then the overall level of discount is a big fat zero! Oh, and finally....compulsory safety systems is a cool idea but what happens if you're deaf and can't actually hear the alerter screaming at you every 30 seconds?

Honestly i agree that dovetail makes routes incredibly expensive even if they are absolute dogshit. And train sim world 4 was disappointing with the 3 default routes, lazy as fucking always. This is why the game is dying, its shit like this that make the game not fun to play.

No septa would mean a very quiet section. Plus all the modeling of the septa stations for the extra track would be a lot of work only for most of them to not be used. Dtg are unable to get the license.

I bought the first lirr line back in 2018 and I thought it was good for some reason… I was so wrong now 40 Dollars for an extra branch to LONG BEACH AND WITH THE M9 I though they were gonna fix it but NO just add a new train and call it a day.

The route has been fixed and improved though in lirr 2. There is much busier traffic and better signaling. No more clipping at penn station, more ai services and much more

Could of added that playstation didn't get a discount, xbox only got a discount if they had Gamepass. On console DTG doesn't have any say in having a discounts like a loyalty discount or sales. I don't think many playstation uses have got long island 2 and are just going to wait for a sale wich is what I'm doing the discount will probably be 25%off on the first sale having a guess but it will be over 3 months later. Still waiting for the berninalinie, Rosenheim to Salzburg and Gameplay packs to go on sale on playstation then the fifa circle and London overground to go on sale long island who'd be after that. Dtg should of Done the upgrade for free and done a loco add on wich is very rear now. Trainsimulaterdriver didn't agree with not everyone having a discount

@@edot_nyc that was the key system to using the doors, selective door opening is a general thing that can be added because of the short platforms throughout DLCs

Why are you complaining about the speed and safety systems that's how it is! It's a simulation tedious or not. Although I agree with the majority of everything else this was a missed opportunity with meddling by the MTA but hey licencing is a pain.

They should add Dm30ac trains,c3 trains ,equipment trains ,New York alantic and also add the port Jefferson branch ronkonkama branch Montauk branch far rockaway branch and west Hempstead branch ,port Washington branch and oyster bay and also add grand central Madison that’s what should be added in the game this is why I don’t play the game

That’s so much that’s going to years of work

The people that get mad at you when you make a route review are probably people that work for the company that made tsw4

Definitely overpriced...its fun but a slap in the face to previous owners. The reason its not free simply its in demand so dtg can make money 💰
