    I took a wild camping trip to Scandinavia this summer for three months. Bike, 80mpg, 2019 Honda CB500x. My pannier setup, Givi detachable rails, cost £100, and Givi soft panniers with waterproof liners, (didn’t leak once) cost £115. I made it up to Nordkapp, where I was surrounded by GS’s and Africa Twins, all with similarly impressive luggage setups as in this video. I smoked a tab, had a chuckle and headed on down to Lapland. I’m not having a go at GS or AT riders, (I had both in my youth) but there are alternatives 🇬🇧🙂✌🏻

    Hi Bruce, Great video. I have had the rack mounted for a couple of years and they are fantastic. Tbe biggest plus for me is that they are 100% waterproof, something that my metal ones never were. I always found a pool of water at the bottom of the metal ones after a few hours of heavy rain. I just wish they would hurry up with their top box.

    Built and tested around the world, shows being pulled behind a truck on a dirt road but advised not to use off road, am sorry if I’m not getting something but really don’t see the advantage over any other system rackless or with racking 🤷‍♂️ Love your vids Bruce have been very inspiring over the years 👍

  • @teapotone

    @teapotone

    The bit where the bike is dragged behind the truck is to show how tough the bags themselves are. There was a lot of criticism when they originally came out from the hard luggage brigade who said they weren’t as secure as hard panniers. So Lone Rider chucked them off the back of a moving truck, attacked them with knives, screwdrivers etc etc to prove they were actually tougher than hard luggage. When secured via a traditional rack system, they are perfectly fine to use offroad, as proven by the actual owners, founders, and staff members at Lone Rider themselves, as well as thousands of customers around the world. The Rackless motobags shown in this vid, are meant for the road use rider - basically 90%+ of riders out there 👍

    I have had the "normal" Lone Rider bags for 2 years now. Their support sucks and I will never buy from them again ..... but, the bags I have are great !!!! The rack less I have seen come off on even minor spills so my guess was right about going to them. No complaints about the product directly, just some issues about install and goofy pad locks that when making them aware of the 5 hours it took me to take apart and re-adjust the mounts on bags they said "bolt right on", some woman that worked there pretty much told me to go pound sand. That cost them their future in my eyes . Good video !!!! Thank you !!! 🙂

  • @teapotone

    @teapotone

    7 ай бұрын

    Yes that’s true, it doesn’t let any water in through the material, but they have included the drain holes to allow any water to get out. You out your clothes in the lining bags anyway, which are 100% waterproof. So if you’re taking the bags to the bike from your hotel/tent and it’s raining, when you open the motobags and out the lining bags in - any water is free to drain out and your kit isn’t sat in puddles of water all day 👍

    Hi everyone, I have a 2024 800GS with Visio fasteners. BMW tells me that these fasteners are identical on the GS range (old and new with Visio option of course). As they are used to attach the rackless I think that the Motobags rackless should also be compatible on the 800 GS (2024), but when I ask Lonerider I don't get any answer from their customer service? In short, I'm wondering if I'm ordering these bags "despite" the lack of response from Lonerider? thx

    Yep it’s a LOT of money for sure. Compared to their equivalent rivals in the market, I’d say they were the leaders - look amazing, huge capacity, incredibly easy to mount/remove, leave the bike looking original when not mounted, safer than hard luggage, fully waterproof, more versatile in that it’s easy to mount other bags and kit to them via the Molle system… list goes on. However if you’re going to do much offroad stuff, then I’d go for the traditional rack motobags and not these Rackless ones personally

    The compromise is that when you take them off they have a whole load of hardware attached and they have separate keys. You do seem to love these, that's all cool and if bought them or were donated them I would love them too It is just as we are all motorcyclists we have to give our honest opinion and my opinion is that the BMW ones are expensive enough so an alternative should be at least a little less expensive. But twice the price? doesn't make sense to me That's all TO.@@teapotone

    It’s a key which I attach to my bike keys 🤷‍♂️ If your opinion on something is tainted by the fact it was given to you to review, then this is not the line of work you should be in (although I appreciate many here on KZread appear to act differently). I for one am always open and honest about anything I feature on the channel, whether I’ve bought it myself, been given, or provided by a sponsor - it makes zero difference to me, I’ll say exactly what I think. It’s cost me sponsors in the past and I’m sure it will again into the future - but integrity is non-negotiable in my book, and I’ll defend that from anyone. Yes these are expensive, I even say this a few times in the vid, but you get what you pay for. If it’s not for you though, then fine, there are plenty of alternatives available as you point out 👍

    The BMW Vario panniers are available new on the evil place from a BMW dealer for £650 including the locks. They extend to approx 30 and 39L and fit both the 1200/1250 GS/GSA without using any racking at all. They are quite heavy, but are waterproof and lockable so you can use inner bags and leave the panniers on the bike. As the 1250GS has been replaced by the 1300GS and its already been confirmed the Vario panniers won't fit the 1300 these probably won't either unless they produce a different mounting plate. The vario also slim down to 20 and 29L to help with filtering and if you have the top box and ride solo do you really need anymore. The cost of these panniers are around the cost of both the Vario panniers and the top box combined. I know which I'd buy.

    These are based on the Vario luggage, that’s why they utilise the existing mounting points on the GS bodywork. They’re much better than the Vario ones though in all senses - looks, build quality, Vario ones aren’t waterproof (I’ve seen them leak a few times with my own eyes), they’re much heavier to lug on and off the bike. LoneRider are currently working on their 1300 kit range, including possibly a way to convert existing 1200/1250 Rackless motobags to the 1300 - but watch this space if that happens 🤷‍♂️ I bought the new Vario top box for the 1300 at £550! It’s a HUGE step up from the original plastic, cheap looking Vario kit, and I’ll do a vid on it at some point to come 👍

    @@teapotone Thanks Bruce, I've never had my Varios leak in the 7 years I've had them maybe they leak because people overfill them, who knows 🤣 If they can make different adapter plates I think they'd be onto something which might then justify the high cost-I thought BMW were bad enough 😉 I guess overall it's good to have a choice that can cater for different people's needs. I know you don't rate them but I'm off to 1250RS land as they're a liad cheaper than the GS is now and if I need luggage for that I'll go down the soft luggage route too, probably a 36L as I don't carry a pillion so no need to carry a hairdryer, handbags or high heels

    Ridiculous price, but its the same with a lot of bike gear. I think that puts a lot of new bikers off, thinking they have to blow £1000's on gear, and you really don't.

    I’m guessing the one big advantage of the hard case over these relates to how each would stand up to a Stanley knife….a lot of thieving gits in some European cities…

    These motobags have been tested with blades, chisels, screwdrivers etc - I’ve included some footage in this vid, did you not see it?

    I did but thought the footage only showed a screwdriver. If there was a warning about knives on the box it made me think about opportunistic thieves. If these are immune to a stanly they’d be a serious consideration.

    Fake. Go watch the Lone Rider videos, there are some where, in particular, they spend their time dropping the motorcycle on the rackless cases to demonstrate the solidity of the system and that there is no damage to the cases. As for the price, the price of an aluminum suitcase kit from Touratech, for example, is more expensive and will cause more damage in the event of a fall!

    @philippeernotte6609 aye that’s true, and I use footage from that in this actual vid. HOWEVER… these reckless bags are NOT designed to go offroad. The BAGs will easily go off road and put up with everything you can throw at them, but the reckless connection system to the bike won’t. For off road riding you will need the traditional rack system and connect your bags via that👍

    Ugly and not rackless, as they carry a rack with them and plug into bike‘s integrated rack ports. Useless, as you won‘t carry that hybrid monster to your hotel. Leaving the softbag on the bike means, you have to pull all out and carry it around to the end of the lengthy floor of that scottish hotel on the 3rd floor of the back building you have to walk across countries for. Well done. Hahaha, no way. „To be fair“ it‘s utterly expensive anyways, regardless of it‘s packing.

    What a ridiculous post? So how do you get the content of your panniers/bags to your hotel room normally then if you don’t carry them from your bike? It’s takes a matter of minutes to remove the lining bag from the motobags and then you just carry that. The motobags stay on the bike whilst you are on your trip, locked and secure to the frame. When you get home, they take seconds to remove and you can store them in your garage/shed/house. Ugly - no. Useless - no. Expensive - yes, very. Quality - yes, very.
