Please note that there is no such parade as Derry Day it is the Relife of Derry Parade nor is there Lundy Day! I was born in the Fountain so I am a Derry man and proud of it!

@Aaron1916 The city never existed it was an Oak Grove hence Derry or Doire if you prefer but during the Plantation the City of London trads Guilds built the City so in 1685 King James the First granted the city a Charter and changed the name from Derry to Londonderry to reflect the fact that the city of London had built the city from the Ground, so during the Seige the name was Londonderry, the parades by the Apprentice Boys are the Closing of the Gates and the Reflief parade.

Built by Britain, colonized by Taigs. Londonderry.

It is where my family live but we have ''Derry'' day, the Apprentice Boys of Derry & the Seige of Derry not LondonDerry. Given that NI has a unionist majority, of course the majority want to remain part of the UK. Also note that the clans of Ulster fought against others from southern Ireland , and before the 1700's the concept of a United Ireland was not invented. Ulster was an independent province from the other provinces. Nationalism was invented by a Protestant angry at English landlords, Wolfetone, in the late 1700's.

I was in Derry a few weeks ago,the city looks great,very clean and vibrant,too bad the Fountain area which is seen from the famous walls is so dirty and untidy looking with all the bonfire material strewn all over the neighbourhood, the place looks like a dump site,a colourful one at that with red white and blue kerbs and loyalist flags flying from the lamp posts,no civic pride or what?

I bet you’ll find a happy vibrant, positive ,atmosphere in the Fountain Area ,Londonderry. Then again if you have the unfortunate luck of walking into the Creggan or for that matter the Bogside you’ll soon experience the oppressive negative atmosphere that a waits you there.And if your lucky you’ll get stoned while while your there.

it was the London companys, they also oversaw the plantation of ulster & America. It wasnt till after the seige that it gained the stupid name.
