My bucket list includes... Cab-view rides in Trams, underground and overground Trains! Watching this video was enjoyable BUT no doubt I won't be able to tick the mentioned requirements of my bucket list!!

I used to live in Croydon and ride the trams a lot. When they first opened, the recorded announcements were by an actor (can't remember who, but he'd been in Upstairs, Downstairs I believe) and were very clear but sounded like normal English. The newer ones are over-enunciated, as in the "Ah-ree-naah" you hear early on in this. Also, it's depressing how run-down both the Old Town and North End areas of Croydon have become.

Somewhere around 1.20 there is a gate to the driver's right which is set at an angle to the line (I cannot make it out in this video). I lived here in the sixties and regularly walked along the trackside path from the bottom of my road (now Arena station) to Elmer's End. The line was still a railway and on the other side of the path was the former sewage works. The gate always mystified me. The only logical reason for it being at such an angle was if it was over a track branching off the main line which seemed ridiculous. Checking historic maps, there was once a track here which ran to an incinerator on the sewage works. I have not been able to find any further information about this.

I notice the switch is a spring switch ( 55:00 seconds). The tram will open the points, and then they will reset to let the oncoming tram go to it's left (our right). Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario
