London Buses August 2000-Hammersmith with Metrobuses & Routemasters

Back to August 2000 now and to the still fairly new Hammersmith Bus Station. We see Metro's and a few Routemasters at work on routes 9, 27, 266, 267, 295 & 509. The 509 was the shuttle service to Hammersmith Bridge which back then was also closed due to its poor state of repair! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Ah Hammersmith. Coming out of the Odeon just after 11pm having been deafened by Motorhead for two hours into the welcoming arms of an RM on the 9 back to Charing Cross- those were the days!

It was just a shuttle to Hammersmith Bridge and back. It ran just to serve those few stops between the Bus Station and the Bridge (which was shut, even then!)....

This really does take me back. Good Times good times. Still annoyed as to why they demoted the 295 to those Marshall Darts a few months later after they were a double decker route. Thank goodness common sense prevailed in 2002/3

The crazy idea of converting busy double deck routes to small single deckers has been a constant over the years. Like the Gold Arrow debarcle, 3 midibuses for 2 Routemasters. Who knew that traffic in London was bad and adding to it did not help the traffic flow?.......

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Exactly that. Now some routes have been restored back to double deckers. I remembered when the 212 went through a similar situation back in the 2000s and by the end of the 2000s it was restored back to double deckers again.

Metrobus lovers paradise. Starting to show their age by then but sounded as good as when they were new. Feel a little sad watching as they didn't have long to go by the turn of the century. Hard to believe they had been around since late 1978, though continued being delivered in batches for almost another 7 years. Unlike the RMs, they weren't altered mechanically in their lives with LT. Good to see a mate filming as well. He had good taste.

Yes, my mate lurks in the background on a few of my vids! It was seeing my older videos that spured him on to get a camera and do the same! Metros and Titans shared the same engine, a Gardner 6LXB, which was a good solid engine. Although the RMs had been running with AECs for around 30+ years before they had new ones fitted.....

Sydney has a preserved ex HK 12m three axle SuperMetrobus with Gardner 6LXCT with Mark II body from 1981 but with chassis from 1977. I rode it in 2018. It was my first ride on an MCW in 19 years and boy did I enjoy it. It sounds as good slowing down as when it's accelerating!

Soon after i passed my pcv in 2004, in 2005, i drove a few metrobuses (via agency), on rail replacement work, as well as titans, and whilst they weren't my favourite, they were solid reliable machines overall They just lacked refinement the titan had, my preferred vehicle type out of the 2 to drive, but they weren't the only types i drove Arriva first and blue triangle used my agency for bus drivers on rail replacement duty
