    Good point. As demonstrated here the siren should be turned off so as not to pressurise the motorist to jump the red light. Only police can instruct you to jump the red light. When you do your response driving course it is drummed into you from day 1. We are taught to read the road ahead and drive to arrive.

Well done 👍🏼 I’ve often thought that if it was possible to send out a warning over the radio waves of all oncoming emergency vehicles, this message would play over the car’s radio in front of you and give them more precious time to make the right moves so you can pass safer and quicker....

    That's interesting. In Australia we're exempt from traffic regulations on a code 1 (what you call blues and twos and US call code 3). However, from day 1 of driver training onwards, we're always told to exercise due diligence, drive safely and not in a manner that may endanger others. Our streets are wider than in the UK, so even if we go down a one way street, there's room for oncoming traffic to move over.

    @@coover65 bit late responding but in case you are interested: in the UK you can do 5 things with blue lights and sirens.. 1) treat red lights as a give way 2) exceed the speed limit (but not drive at a dangerous speed) 3) use audible warnings between the hours of 11:30pm and 7am 4) ignore keep left/right signs (but not go the wrong way down a dual carriageway) 5) park in a no parking area (but you may not park in a dangerous position) It is really quite disappointing when you start your driver training.

    It always amazes me how nonchalant people are when there's an emergency vehicle around. People strolling around in the road, cars getting out of the way only at the last minute. If I hear a siren in the distance, the first thing I do is see where it's coming from and where it's going. I see people even using the opportunity to overtake and then get out the way when the vehicle is behind them and has had to practically stop. One day it will be a member of their families or friends and they will complain about how long it took.

    in relation to the comment about waiting at the red lights,sadly in the uk, the law does not give emergency vehicle drivers any rights over and above the normal driver and there is no regulation that compels people to make way for them.. I think its high time that it was made law in this country to make way for emergency vehicles,. The only time you can go through a red traffic signal is, if a police officer in uniform directs you to.. And those last 2 sets of traffic lights, if i remember rightly have red light cameras on them and knowing boris and the london authority, they wouldnt show any mercy to a driver,even going through to allow an emergency vehicle through. I say time to change the law, give emergency vehicle drivers protection from wrong siding the bollards, going through red traffic signals, etc etc... Anyway rant over, Thats one bloody excellent video,and also excellent driving also, and surprisingly, a majority of the other drivers, were actualy awake and aware of your impending appearance

    policeblue999 fortunately*. as an emergency vehicle, you do not want to cause an accident and have 2 sets of patients to deal with. I do not think they can leave the scene of an accident, especially if they have caused it. So the ambulance, in this case, will be redirected from the original (possible cardiac) to an rtc - unless I am completely wrong and the ambulance can flee the scene of an accident because of triage.

    Chris Hall Thanks for your reply. I get that, but why the silence towards the end of the video?. Past 7:30 siren is off a lot... Even making headway... Also, I'm from Argentina... Here, vehicles are only at emergency state when they have the lights AND sirens on... Otherwise, they are just "regular vehicles"... That's why I do not get why this video shows an ambulance swtiching on and off the sirens... Of course, here if an ambulance gets to a railroad crossing and a train is about to pass, it turns the sirens out, since as you pointed out, there's no need for those at that particular time...

  • @chrishall7729

    @chrishall7729

    you can make greater headway with lights, as opposed to lights and sirens! People see the lights, but they dont always hear you - in London there are sirens everywhere, and people are tuned out to them, plus if there is no need to use (ie announce your presence on the road) then we don't use....

  • @chrishall7729

    @chrishall7729

    9 жыл бұрын

    coming up to 07:30, there are red traffic lights, therefore, we are going to wait for the lights to change, as we will not put a civy driver into the position of breaching the road traffic act, or more importantly, being involved in an accident because they have entered a junction in which they don't have right of way. At 08:00, noise back on to prompt drivers the ambulance is making headway, 08:23 approaching yet another set of red lights, so siren off once again...note that the Prius in lane one crosses against the red lights (minicab - what more can you say) and at 08:42, residential streets with light to no traffic on approach to A&E, so no need to disturb the residents! This is a text book example of spot-on driving, making excellent headway, correct use of sirens, positioning and awareness of and towards other road users!

    +SuperSpotter Because there was a vehicle in front of him waiting at the red light. In the UK, you are technically not allowed to break traffic rules to give way for emergency vehicles. If you do so, ok, often no one will fine you for that. But the ambulance driver doesnt want to force anybody to break the law, so he waits and continues his journey when the light turns green. In the other cases, there was no vehicle in front of him and he was able to request way without forcing anybody to break the law.

    It's a really dodgy crossing and I don't tend to push people across red lights (which technically is illegal for them) with the possibility of causing an accident. You'll quite often see ambulances and police cars actually turn off the blues and twos until lights turn green and then off we go again. Generally we are grateful when drivers are sensible and better position their vehicles so we can cross but safety has to come first. I can assure you we don't need any more patients! Thanks for all comments.

    +LondonEmergency999 in germany the ambulance drivers dont care with pushing people over red lights...in germany is it legal to do so when you put your warning indicators on and horn before driving through the intersections...good night

    +LondonEmergency999 You are idiots and say this because you cannot drive. In normal countries it is legal to cross the red light to give way for emergency vehicles. And in my country the emergency vehicle drivers would get off and kick the shit out of anybody not giving way for them. They sound the horn and shout nice words to you until you get deaf.

    Even if it were legal, there are many junctions where you just can't. Forcing them across that junction would likely end in a side on collision. You're already heading to an accident, why create another?

    Do not be so disrespectful and call them idiots. They are the ones who save our lives, Those are the rules simple. You cannot force someone to break the law and cause an accident, you can only educate them on how to do it safely. Stop being so disrespectful.

    Don't know about patients, it's patience you need, how do you stay sane waiting for some people to notice you? Maybe you should use flashing headlights, distinctive blue strobes and a deafening siren to help people spot you're approaching?

    Beeney2, don't your ambulance control centres have CAD systems? At our comms centre, a dispatcher can point the mouse over the image of our vehicle on a map, and it shows our status, as well as the crews on board, start and finish times, and even when we're due for a meal. Is it true that in London, all 999 calls get an emergency response (or are they filtered using AMPDS or similar)?

    I just spent watching 40mins of ambulance interventions dashcams from my country and i thought hmm "Oh look london that must be awesome all pro and shit". WTF. Some ppl are like totally oblivious and just calmly stroll across street ,some like almost ignore ambulance.. and the ambulance itself considering the room it got on street-ITS BLOODY SLOW EVEN. Dtivers should be pulling aside from center of road like immediately.

    urbex2007 I don't know where you get your information from, but I'd go back and re-read it. The decibel level of sirens is loud enough to be heard a long way off. If you can hear them from 500 yards away, through double glazed windows above the sound of the TV, I'm fairly certain most motorists can hear them. But I'm sure you're an expert in all things, having read all the research and disproved it.

    Called an ambulance for an emergency last night (no heavy traffic), hospital half a mile from the accident. They told me to keep pressure on the bleeding wound to keep it stable because the ambulance would come in one hour. Went to the emergency at 5 in the morning for a hearth stroke and waited for 8 hours for some one to check me. Miraculous I was healed! NHS it says it is the best health system in Europe. Is it?

    If you were still alive after 8 hours, did you really need an ambulance? See how stupid your question/intimation sounds without context? I have no idea what was going on with you and you have no idea what was happening with the ambulance service at the time you had your emergency. Do you think we all just sit at the hospital and go to emergencies when we feel like it? Another common misconception is ambulances stay at the hospital until needed, when in fact we have ambulance stations and standby points when we're not with patients. A little education before mouthing off and negatively impacting someone's view of our necessary NHS would be preferable next time. Have a great day (And yes, I realise my reply is 3 years later than OPs comment)

    You’re the stupid one. That is a notoriously bad junction. The car at the red light cannot see what is coming from the left. If he goes through that red light to move out of the way then he could be hit by traffic from the left. The ambulance would then have to stop and deal with that and they wouldn’t get to the person that needed them on the original call. They clearly don’t train emergency vehicle drivers properly in your country.
