Listening to it on the day of the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony

It's the whistling part that give me goose bumps

My history teacher played us this part of the opening ceremony when we were learning about the industrial revolution. I was just listening to this music

Agreed , it's also the best of the London 2012 opening ceremony

i wasnt thrilled about the olympics i thought it was a massive waste of money untill i watched the opening ceromonies and i was filled with awe and pride to be british and to be a part of such a presitios and great part of british we didnt just make some half assed cermony we made history and expressed our country in ways i thought not possible

Absolutley right, best show i ever saw in my life. I was privileged to watch the ceremony live in stadium. I will never forget this.

Ten years ago today, London stunned the world with an Olympic opening ceremony like no other

I remember watching this at home on TV and getting chills from this. It was the best music I'd ever heard and still is to this day. I'm so glad I found this song again. :D

Had to heat it before opening ceremony of tokyo 2020 and listening now as today or yesterday in Japan Tokyo 2020 closing ceremonies today :(

London put on the best Olympics of all time, both ceremonies and competition were magnificent, massive respect from Ireland

yeah i was a pandemonium drummer :) i also drummed in the athletes parade =] all 1,000 drummers are actually heard in this video. they recorded it with us :) thank you xx

I'm an Aussie - but with British roots (and a UK passport) - and the Ceremony made me proud of the little island that has made such an outsized contribution to world history and culture. The Beijing Ceremony was all about military-style precision. It betrayed Beijing's massive insecurity complex and the control it has over its citizens. London didn't demand such perfection. It was the ceremony of a mature democracy. It was a people's ceremony with 'real' people (ie deaf children's choir).

I have so much respect for you. I was one of the kids with the ribbons for the maypoles at the beginning of the opening ceremony. I remember feeling the drums throughout my body and as a kid feeling so nervous but looking around at so many people with drums knowing they had a more important role. The best and most memorable part of my life. London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Love the techno sounds in there as well. Bet the drums sounded absolutely incredible in the stadium.

This masterpiece has carried London in every corner of the world. Fantastic Olympic game. 2012 has been very special. Greetings from Mauritius

Key Parts of this music should be used in Olympic bumpers or when giving brief news during the Olympic news broadcast of Day summary of went on during the day. Because of this song I can only associate with the Olympics just as I do when hearing the Bugler's Dream and Olympic Fanfair.

This is fucking beautiful, still gives me chills, thank you brits and whoever was part of it.

The most beautiful masterpiece ever created for an Olympic Opening Ceremony. It is a powerful and emotional piece. It just sends chills down your spine and motivates you at the same time. Thank you Danny Boyle and Underworld. Magnificent job.

Four years ago I used to cycle to and from work, about 8 miles each way with some big hills. I was doing shift work finishing at 1am. I can recall fresh in my minds eye, This song used to be on repeat on my ipod smashing along, pushing me along. Has such a great beat to pushing yourself hard. Almost like a beating drum on a dragon boat keeping pace. Memories!

yea it's very inspiring music

From 16:17 till the end, it's the most beautiful music i've ever heard, it makes me hopeful.

The track is amazing, those opening ceremonies were absolutely incredible. The part that still moves me to tears is the pause for the World War memorial. In this track you hear it begin shortly after 7:50

The guys from the techno duo Underworld put this together. Any fan of theirs will recognize classic bits of their music in this. I loved it.

This segment and this song beat anything that was on Rio's opening ceremony yesterday. London 2012 is my all time favorite.

The 2012 Olympics had the best opening ceremony hands down

im a gymnast, in the beginning is like me learning the kip and then in the middle is getting frustrated, and at the end.....finally making it, I made my kip today, a kip is one of the most frustrating moves you could learn on bars, ive been working so long and hard at it, and today.....it finally paid off, im so happy. this is my song...

I remember being 13, watching my very first Olympic opening ceremony, and seeing and hearing this was just as powerful to me then as it is now. I’m 22 now and I still get chills listening to this.

This was so epic, reminded me of Hans Zimmerman's style, dark knight or something..

Absolutely amazing! I feel ever so proud to be British. Best part of the whole ceremony was when the rings came together combined with the beautiful music and atmosphere, somply superb!

Best 20mins I’ve ever seen on tv

To be honest, even if this music is very good in itself, I can't forget the awesome Dame Evelyn's drum solos when it is played live. Something I would like to catch again! Still, it's awesome. Bravo everyone !

still to this day I would have e spent £1000 to see this at the opening ceremony because it was that good

Waiting outside on the Stadium grounds to perform in the Thanks Tim section, skanking with my friends to this and Rick from Underworld directing the Industrial Revolution peeps in our in-ears really got us pumped and buzzing for the show! A masterpiece here.

2012 was definitely Britain's year

This was epic. I found myself in tears from the combination of sight and sound sensory overload I was experiencing. Danny Boyle was brilliant. Kenneth Branagh as Isambard Kingdom Brunel was awesome!

I still remember. I was in the UK studying when this came up. Seeing all the diversity, the unity the strength of the UK made me proud I stayed here for so many years. I would have loved to join the United Kingdom and swear fealty.

This is my absolute favorite part of the openning ceremony

as an Olympic aficionado i have to say that london 2012 opening have had the best production in music in all the past ceremonys. Also the story from this play is the best i have ever seen. Just magnificent! Good for Great Britain! U guys got a 10++++++

I was awestruck during this sequence. Boyle redefined for me what an Olympic opening ceremony can do. I felt both sadness (for the loss of innocence from the pastoral age and pure awesomeness in the power of mankind's collective strength to make the industrial age possible. I hate that these media companies try to block amazing performance art like this from being seen again.

I had the luck to travel over there and watch them live! It was something I will never forget. And I get goosebumps at the poppy moment of the song. Sooo epic!

I have watched every opening ceremony since 1984 and this by far is the best of them all..I thought Beijing was good..but this was absolutely amazing..still gives me goosebumps 7 yrs on..uk rocks man!! No one does it like the brits

I love this piece of music. I like to listen to it when I'm doing most tasks it inspires me and gets my creativity flowing and determination to get something done fired up.

Normally I think my country is a load of wank but being part of these Olympics has been absolutely amazing.

That's true. I always watch the Olympics opening cause it's a beautiful ceremony, and this part nearly made me cry. Not only the music but all the atmosphere had a sense of grandeur, of majesty. That will be hard to beat.

I've cried this part of this ceremony while I was watching. I don't know why but it made me cry.

Wow. I can't believe after 4 years I finally found this track. I remember watching this performed at the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony with my friends. I had just became a Christian and gotten plugged into a new church home with a new campus ministry. We all watched it together. Amazing memories. I love this theme!

When we first got given the games I believed that it would be a massive flop. That was until they started and the atmosphere in East London changed forever. Suddenly people were proud of where they came from, people smiled and greeted each other. Even today, passing the stadium I still smile and feel proud of what we achieved. I cried the first time I saw this segment and to this day I get chills watching this (I knew many people who had the opportunity to take part) as the rings came together and then the raising of the petals. The great was definitely put back in Britain.

Anyone else love the blend of different music. From the great beats to the trippyness towards the end!

What a stunning piece of music for an inspired opening ceremony. I found this section, and the cauldron lighting touching and poignant. Just goes to show, you don't need a Beijing budget to make something beautifully touching. Well done to Danny Boyle, Great Britain and London. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

goosebump music, classic underworld!!

Couldn't of put it better. I was laughing to myself because I had tears rolling down my face after watching this part of the ceremony again and I couldn't explain why. It was just a rush of reactionary emotion from the very powerful imagery combined with the timed-to-perfection music.

I swear 2012 was the best year ever. 2011-2014 period overall were great times

Tokyo’s Olympic opening was amazing! Especially how they brought the typical Japanese culture together with the world in the end! It was flawless

Epic! I get chills everytime.

And although the olympics cost a lot, you gain a huge amount of money overall due to all the tourism (during the games and after it) and it's completely revamped a lot of london, and the legacy after the games promotes sport, particularly for those from a disadvantagted background- the olympics were a wonderful wonderful thing and they do so much good as well as being entertaining. Match of the day on the other hand....

That was the part for the World Wars passing. Beautiful touch. I always whistle when I hear that bit haha

I fucking knew Underworld would see Britain right! people took the piss because they were a techno act as well. What a cheek! Who else could have seen us have a better musical line up for the opening. Britain's proud of you Underworld! And the entire world was impressed.

It's moments like the Olympics that I feel proud to be British along with the Diamond Jubilee 2012 was the best year to be British.
