Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner [Red Ferret Review]

Ғылым және технология

www.redferret.net/?p=36050. Our hands on review of the new Lomography Smartphone Film Scanner for iPhone and Android. The product was first previewed on Kickstarter.com where it raised over 500% more than its target.
This clever device lets you scan your old treasured 35mm negative film stock into your camera phone, after which you can invert and print using any of a number of tools.
There is a smartphone app promised for the product, but at this time it is not yet available, and so we could not test it out.

Yes sorry about that. It was a rushed review, and done a long time ago before I really had a grip on things. I guess I assumed you would get the kind of results you would expect from the quality of your phone camera? Poor excuse.

+Red Ferret My apologies. You actually did a wonderful review, I'm just feeling snarky today - sorry! You are right, the results should be predictable for what it is. I am still curious though, are the results THAT bad compared to pharmacy developing results? Thank you for your video! :-)

Keep in mind that he's reviewing the product and what the product does. The product itself doesn't do anything but scan. There's a FREE (notice I said free) app involved that inverts the color. But it wasn't out at the time. Which he made pretty clear in the video.

Hi there, I don't know if you can help me but I'm having trouble with inverting my negatives. I already have scanned negatives and since you said I could just invert them I tried but they seem to be overly blue? Am I doing something wrong? All I am doing is using a mediocre photo editing software to do it! :(

I couldn't agree more. On most of this type of video on YT, whenever someone handles a negative, it's done very carelessly. One would assume the images on those negatives are of memories worth saving, and one of the by products of the digital image "expert thinking" is not to realize that little scratches on the negative will be amplified (literally) on the printed photo. I suppose there's software to correct those errors.

Wait until their app comes out, or use Photoshop. Heck, almost any decent editing software can invert and adjust the hues. Using poor software is the issue. And getting good software (cheep or free), isn't difficult.

So the film has to be processed? Is there a scanner that scans unprocessed photos. Is that possible? Pretty sure most of us here prefer analog & no one develops film in the area anymore, so it takes about 1 week for 35mm film and a month to six weeks for 120 or 110 film

Yep guilty as charged. You may notice that we do two types of product reviews. Very early (launch day) overviews which aim to show the product's functionality etc (like this one) and more long term type reviews where we go through features in more depth. This was a launch day review.

This is a fraud!! When you are using the lomo scanner and the bad quality of the app that works with iOS gives you such a bad results, pixels everywhere, darker colors, and it seems like is the only app that we can use with lomokino, because there are plenty of photography apps but none is design for lomokino. You have to cut frame by frame, and its a nonsense to do that when the lomokino its design to make a film!!!!!!
