Loki making me CRY AGAIN! :( *Thor: The Dark World* Reaction!

Ойын-сауық

Full length Reactions + Movie/TV Polls ► / vkunia
So I went into watching Thor The Dark World with low expectations due to people's criticisms regarding it, alongside its reviews - but again.. it is a Marvel film therefore its impossible to have low expectations for it because it was GOOD.
I don't believe that it deserved the low reviews it had received, and although it seemed to be more of a filler film in order to build more towards the entire MCU storyline; it was still done very well and was fun to watch. I always love seeing Natalie Portman in movies and seeing her in Asgard (which honestly reminded me a lot of Naboo so some nice Padme flashbacks with cute outfits hehe) was something I didn't realize I needed until now LOL
This movie made me laugh, made me cry, and showed a lot of Thor's growth which I love. He has such a contagious smile you can't help but smile along with him. Chris Hemsworth was the perfect actor chosen to play the role of Thor and I really did enjoy this movie
P.S. Loki still continues to confuse me more and more with each passing film

Tom Hiddleston is a Shakespearean actor of high regard -- his turns as Loki are a bit of campy fun, but he knows how to get your emotions flowing for and against him. What amazes me is how he works with the other actors to form a great scene without making them look like amateurs -- but he does. The thing about Loki - that Tom and the writer's get for the most part -- is the He is not evil, he has negative emotions but positive ones too. He is a duality deity -- a trickster and a teacher. In the MCU -- his job is too teach hard lessons to greenhorn human superheroes that think they can go it alone, and that there are bigger things going on in heaven and earth. And .. you can see .. he L o v e s tricking the bad guys even more than the good guys. The party is never boring when Loki shows up, that's for sure.

Loki is the God of Mischief. I really think he is supposed to be inconsistent. I think that's what makes his character compelling. It is like he takes 1 step forward and 2 steps back. I think that is what you call a good character arc. He has one of the best, in the MCU ...in my opinion

The Collector is one of the "Elders of the Universe" (though they don't necessarily go by that name in the movies). He collects stuff. That's really his only agenda. He's not trying to take over the universe, or destroy anything. He just wants his collection. He's not a bad guy, but he's not really a good guy either. He is not above doing something unethical for the sake of his collection. But the bottom line is, you can trust him to protect the things in his collection. Fun fact about "heavy armor." Late medieval plate armor that usually gets this moniker is actually not THAT heavy. Modern soldiers carry equipment with similar weight when you consider their body armor, ammo, and other stuff. Plate was strapped to you in such a way that it alleviated a lot of the encumberance, so it wouldn't feel as heavy as like a backpack of similar weight. It often wasn't any more encumbering than a lot of chainmail that was worn before. Some jousting armor was significantly heavier to protect you when jousting as a sport but it was not worn in combat. The armor here is likely made of advanced materials that may be even lighter. Also worth noting that plate armor is typically far more effective than hollywood usually depicts it.

I don't know what they did in the middle ages, but the Roman army, at the height of their power, trained with weapons and armor twice as heavy as what they would use in battle. They might've done the same in the middle ages, at least the knights. Classical texts were approved reading, which is why we still have them, and I've read that European knights impressed their Arab foes with feats of strength.

@@thelionsshare6668 I had not heard that but it makes sense. It definitely would have taken some conditioning to have the endurance in battle. Modern soldiers train in full gear but do a lot of endurance training as modern warfare is endurance heavy. Medieval knights typically only donned full plate before battles and needed to fight in melee where it benefits you to be as strong and fast as possible for the battle at hand, which typically wouldn't last all that long.

I'm still of the mind that it is one of the weakest MCU movies. MCU movies just tend to be really quite good - even if a little pre-chewed for the masses. I think this movie could've been much better received if they had either a) spent a little more time defining and setting up the elves or b) spent a little less time with the elves, really keeping them more in the background, and more time focusing on the Asgardians and their relationships and interpersonal drama - letting us to meet them properly. As it is, both sides now feel... uhh... vague? distant? The elves feel like they're there to be the bad guys, and the Asgardians feel like they're there to be the good guys, but neither side gets enough spotlight to really make an impact with the audience. To me, at least.

We really enjoyed it, I liked how Mjolnir kept trying to take the long way, Darcy was hilarious, Loki, an already entertaining character, has great chemistry with Thor, and we get to see him be more than _almost_ everyone thought he was capable of. After months of travel, when they landed and the captain was clearing his throat for his rehearsed words as he made the first footprints in Martian soil, suddenly he hears someone behind him, turns around to see some dude standing there in a diving suit and a breathing hose running back to a wormhole floating in the air, showing a college dorm room with the guy's lab partner grinning and waving on the other side. Turns out, those guys had finished their first prototype of a wormhole machine on the same day and put an end to space ships and astronauts in front of this Mars pioneer's eyes at the peak moment of his career.

Adding new characters/groups and filling the holes with them worked for awhile till they resolved the BIG arc.

The point about Marvel movies being judged differently reminded me of conversations with friends about Pixar movies. Monsters inc. was an awesome movie, but it seems like a lot of zoomers haven't even seen it, because for a lot of people that were watching the now old Pixar movies growing up, or even as parent and teens when they were released, it didn't really stand out. Personally, I loved Monster inc. and I think the "Birds" short was released with it, and that was the hardest I've ever laughed at a Pixar short... which is really saying something.

You are exactly right about the general public’s standard for MCU movies. If it’s not the most awesome movie ever then it’s considered bad. No, Thor: The Dark World is not the best MCU movie, but its not a bad movie.

Thor was one of the comics I read as a kid. This movie felt like Thor. Which is why I still like it. While Thor: Ragnarok (the favorite, apparently) is fun, it really takes Thor in a direction that is not true to the comics, which always leaves me with an element of annoyance.

*Gasps* "Are you kidding?!?" Yes... yes, actually, he is... I love that the reason Loki didn't actually die here is because test audiences... just like you, simply didn't believe that he was actually dead when they saw the movie. They were asking "So... where's Loki? How did he make it out?" So... they realized that they really should make him survive, and so they went back and made the scenes that added that element into the story XD Loki: Dies. Everyone else: doesn't believe it for a moment.

I enjoyed the movie. The effects and CGI for one was insane in this film, but I did enjoy the overall story, and I love the fantasy/magic element that Asgard/Thor/Nine Realms gives to us. The final battle I think should have shown more of Thor battling Malekith, but other than that, not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

Critics watch a shitton more movies than the average movie watcher. They're exposed to much more of the writing tropes than most people, making them less effective, and in some cases, make them annoying. "Do something different", cause they've seen it so often. They aren't "born for hating everything". They've just seen so much, the stuff the average person thinks is fine, they've seen hundreds of times. Please don't generalize and demonize just cause they don't agree with you. But then, you say that you literally don't hate a single thing in the 20+ movies, so I don't think you're entirely impartial on your opinion of the films.

I think even MCU fans appreciate this film more now than they did when it released. It was a weak point at the time based on what we got, but now that we're well into the swing of Phase 4, people understand how important this movie was. Personally, it's last in my rankings...but that doesn't mean I dislike it (something has to be last), I like ALL of the MCU, I don't think Marvel has an L to their name yet. But it goes to show you, that if this is last on my list, and I still enjoy it...then the MCU is just THAT good overall.
