Loki | 2x6 Glorious Purpose - REACTION!

Ойын-сауық

This was, in our opinion, the best MCU series finale so far! Holy sh*t did that ending hit us hard. If this indeed is it for Loki, we're going to miss him dearly.

The way you said Yggdrasil when you realized what Loki, the God of Stories dug deep into his roots (pun intended) to find something that would replace the loom: himself, thus creating Yggdrasil and finally fulfilling his glorious purpose, burden and all, and for once a Loki won, but he had to lose everything to get there... Which is interesting because Loki was always the bringer of Ragnarok, but to every end, there's a beginning, we die with the dying, we live with the dead.

Losing everything, sometimes even one's life to sacrifice for the greater good, is the fate of a true hero. Loki was probably one of the best examples of this in the MCU (No disrespect to Tony's sacrifice for one universe) and it's just so tragically beautiful.

  • @bloodyneptune

I loved that in the first Thor, before he falls off the Bifrost, he says “I could have done it, Father. For you, for all of us" but for the wrong reasons, he just thinks "im a god, its my birthright, im super smart I could have done it" but with no understanding of what it truly means to be a god and have that power. And he falls off the end of the broken bridge into the abyss. This time he says "I know what kind of god I need to be. For you. For all of us" because he finally understands the burden of glory, and that he has to choose to be more than he is. And he willingly steps off the end of a broken bridge...and keeps walking. The first time, he let go of the staff, the only thing keeping him connected to his family and home, and he falls into nothingness. This time he holds on for his family and his home, and ascends to his throne. I think its why the bridge resembled the Bifrost, so they could parallel that scene and bring it full circle. And that's just incredible.

Even the response to those statements were copied. The first was Odin "no, Loki" and he said it like an adult dealing with a petulant child who wants to take something, not give it. The second: Mobius "No!" Immediately followed by sylvie "Loki!" They said it as people who care about Loki, knowing he is about to sacrifice himself. He's about to give something, not take. It's perfect. The creators of the show truly cared about telling Lokis story. It's amazing.

Tom Hiddleston said in an interview that they were having trouble figuring out what Loki's last lines should be. That day,, he went out on a run around the entire studio lot listening to the soundtracks from the series and the Thor film. And then he suddenly knew what Loki needed to say to Mobius and Sylvie at the end. He rushed back in and met with the writer and said, "I got it" and right then and there, he said the lines in front of them and the writers said, "That's it." So the lines actually came from Hiddleston channeling Loki himself.

I didn’t realize until someone else commented that destroying the Loom and causing the death of the timelines *was* Ragnarok, then his enchantment of those same timelines to bring them back to life and take the throne while literally holding them together was the renewal following Ragnarok that created the Tree of Life…so beautiful. And I have no doubt that this storyline was influenced by how dedicated Tom Hiddleston was to the lore of Loki. What a master of his craft.

@@KanpuriyeWell, I'd say that I expected them to recognise the tree because Kat and Sonny are Danish. And Denmark, alongside with Norway and Sweden were the birthplace of Viking culture. It would be hard to imagine they haven't heard about Yggdrasil called by its proper name. It's an important part of Scandinavian mythology. Also Yggdrasil was referenced in several Marvel movies. And Kat & Sonny are great at connecting the new information with something previously known. You should see their reactions on shows like "Dark". So... that's why I assumed they'll know what it is.

Loki has one of the greatest character arcs of all time. He started the show as a god who wanted to rule everyone and everything in the universe for selfish reasons, to a god who selflessly watches over and protects the MULTIVERSE, in isolation, from a throne outside of time and space. Mobius told him that he needed to choose which burden he could live with to fulfill his purpose, and as heavy as it was, this was the only choice in which all of his friends and family as well as all of the people of the multiverse would be saved. He is a true hero now. My heart absolutely breaks that this Loki is now and possibly always will be alone, but at least he can watch over everyone he cares for from afar. ALL HAIL LOKI, THE GOD OF STORIES!!!! And I’m really gonna miss watching your reactions to this amazing show. I’d love to see you react to Ms. Marvel though!

I love this ending even though it's so bittersweet. Loki's Glorious Purpose has finally has arrived with Loki realizing he can replace the branch-killing Loom, and therefore the Sacred Timeline, with something better: himself. Loki takes He Who Remains place at the End of Time but Loki also becomes the God of Stories according to the MCU wiki and most interpretations. If he is the God of Stories for the MCU then the MCU would be changing the meaning of the God of Stories from the comics but they have changed big things before. I also love how the new natural Loom is in the shape of Yggdrasil. When Loki locks Mobius and Sylvie out and tearfully says goodbye to them, he says the same last words he said to Odin right before falling off the Bifrost Bridge and seemingly dying: “I could have done it, father. For you! For all of us!”. Loki's purpose is a glorious one, but the burden is completely heavy, where he is completely alone, unable to be with his loved ones ever again. Still Loki gets watch over them from countless timelines. Yggdrasil, also known as the Tree of the World or the World's Tree, is a concept used by the Asgardians to describe the cosmic nebula, with each branch or root representing one of the Nine Realms but this new Yggdrasil is not just for the Nine Realms but for the entire multiverse.

Yeah, the first time through is beautiful, but if you watch some of the deep dives online it gets even better. Loki's last line before stepping out the door, is the same line he gave to Thor and Odin at the end of the first Thor movie before he dropped into the void. His emphatic shout about not wanting a throne plus He Who Remains crack about "I made the tough choices so I get the big chair" plus that stuff from episode 1 is such a beautiful combination as well. Every rewatch has held up or added more little angles. Thanks for the video!

Loki’s “glorious purpose “ turned out to be completely different from what he originally thought. But with his character development, the character growth this seems just right for him. I didn’t know anything about the comics Loki becoming the god of stories, so this was a good surprise. He re-energized the timelines that he saved and have some amount of control over them but not what people are speculating or think. He does still have his limits, but that will be probably covered in some future Marvel projects since it’s been said that he will have a part in the upcoming Secret Wars and is to reunited with Thor however briefly. This was so emotional but so well done. This series proves what can be done when there is a focus on quality storytelling.

Loki the greatest Avenger and the person holding all our realities together. What an ending. The most significant thing Marvel has ever done IMO. Goes to show if they hire writers and build smaller stories they can still work miracles. Hiddleston may have spent a significant portion of his life making these films but he joined the ranks of the most important sci-fi characters of all time with this arc and ending.

I love the detail in the moment loki returns to the tva one final time, as the camera remains on him, the voice repeats "welcome back, he who remains". Its a nice creative touch. Also, I too cried at this final 😭

Seems like Kat and I, like many others, realized what Loki was doing, but interestingly, it didn't register with most reactors until after the scene unfolded. Personally, the theme of self-sacrifice always resonates with me, and when portrayed effectively, as in this, it evokes a profound sense of pure respect for the action itself.

You know MCU has always really portrayed Gods as just being very strong or muscular. This was the first time it felt like we saw an actual God and the extent of their power. Beyond a fist fight or a purple alien. Loki is always plagued by his weakness and foibles and that hinder his true power. Sylvie and Classic Loki showed us what a Loki with conviction is capable of but our Loki showed us what a God is truly capable of in this multiverse.

If you notice in the scene when Mobius went home, the audio was rustling of branches and the shots were framed in trees. They had put him in Loki's tree of life through audio and visuals. Others have stated a theory that Mobius stood there to spend time in time, because, it let him feel closer to Loki again.

Loki, like Atlus, has the world on his back. His burden is for eternity and only a few select people know of his sacrifice. He sits on his throne watching all the timelines and he is alone. His greatest fear and his burden to bear. I cried like Kat when I saw his walk to the loom, it felt right. Loki traversing the timeline and talking to his friends.... it was him getting closure and saying goodbye before his departure. He earned his throne.

People are calling Loki the God of Stories because that is what happened in the comics. But that was very different. Here he has clearly become the God of Time. He has finally accepted the burden of his glorious purpose.

Pretty interesting that two shows you follow, both heavily inspired by Norse Mythology ended on the same week. Both with timey-wimey elements, and an imagery of Yggdrasil in their ending scenes.

I had tears as well for Loki. He indeed was burdened with glorious purpose, Loki is the best written character man. To be a hated villain to being so selfless & becoming Yggdrasil is one of the best character arcs ever. The sad part is he's alone now, however I don't think this will be the last time we see the god of stories 😢

One thing I loved about this episode (besides Tom's glorious tour de force of a performance): Ravonna's ending. She was an antagonist that did many awful things, but she was never cowardly. So it's fitting that even when facing Alioth and almost certain death, she kept her nerve and stared right back at it.
