    Okaaay, Silver-Age Lois Lane was one crazy-ass lady! And I'm a little surprised that the character managed to be remain as dignified in the Golden Age and post-Silver Age stories when there are stories like this about her.

    Go back and read some early Superman stories from 1938 through world war 2 and watch cartoons of him from that period, that guy was terrible in many stories, destroyed people houses, tossed person out of airplane, sank submarine killing everyone on board, tossed people a distance so would have to be dead. How he let Lex Luthor live when he killed or allowed to die, so many others some of which committed no crime must be far less than a good character.

    Ironically, I just read Lois Lane # 59 last week and this popped up today. It really was a fun story, but I suspect the thing driving the sales was Schaffenberger putting Lois in that micro-miniskirt. He was one of the very best at disguising what was really "good girl art" inside conventional stories. By the mid-sixties, he was making Lois' skirts tighter and shorter, and occasionally finding excuses to put her and/or Lana into attractive costumes (I still recall one story having them both in saucy cocktail waitress outfits with fishnets). For the time, it was a rather bold subtext in the stories, especially for DC!

    *QUESTION TIME!* Should Lois have told Superman that she found a way to go back in time and visit his living parents? Or should she just keep it a secret and hope Superman never finds out about her romance with Jor-El?

    I have to admit, I've been avoiding this one till I could control my face-palming instinct, after my brother watched it and told me of it. It reeks of Silver-Age sociopathy, perhaps exceeded only by the 'evil-destroying' sequence in 'Superman Red, Superman Blue' Imaginary. Another nail in the coffin of Lois' foray into Big Huge Stupid? If she could have somehow really become Superman's mother, and if he was sent to Earth successfully (which would mean she died), then Superman would be Half-Human and therefore vastly weaker! So, Lois? Not only are you an obsessive stalker with apparent pedophilic tendencies, your complete lack of thinking things through could have fatally compromised the greatest hero of them all. Lex is looking down on you and shaking his head. BTW, for a premise almost as Nutzoid (what a great word) : Try Lois Lane 106, wherein she...has Superman reconfigure her to be an African-American woman for 24 Hours. Even their efforts to be inclusive were on acid. To be fair, I'm sure they had her learn an important 70's Afterschool Special Lesson...or not.

    ***** I don't think you need to. The cover to LL 106 alone is already a meme to very bad writing. This one alone could function as a 'Family Guy' cutaway, with almost no edits. In fact, that Lois is less of a psycho at times than this one.

    +Rob Morris Sir, there are not enough likes to put under your comment. This story _epitomizes_ why I *never* liked Lois Lane as a character pre-1990, how people wrote/viewed women in the 1950s/60s [all about "Gotta get the Man!"] and why the Silver Age, at least in comics, arguably had more drug users than the 80s crack and cocaine epidemic. I mean, this story shows how this character was not only a *bat shit crazy man hungry **_Caricature_** of the imappropriate* , but also the _lenghts_ she would go to, messing up _countless peoples lives_ and then turning on a dime just to get what she wants. Bet your bottom dollar, *Wonder Woman* would be smart enough to not do such bull****! Why they _ever_ made this comic book series is beyond me; all it was was stories about Lois being catty, scheming, or being an utter pain in Superman's ass as she tries to get his attention. I mean come on... deliberately stopping to plant secret into a couples yard and essentially take advantage of their _baby?_ REALLY????? The few times they used _Clark- in the story, it was still featured around this poor imitation of _I Love Lucy_ -esque comedy. Never understood what Superman saw in this version of her, and I am _grateful_ that, say what you want Scott, the 90s actually made this chick somewhat _tolerable_ ; Erica Durance's portrayal in _Smallville_ actually made her *likeable*.

    +Diamondjelyninja Not all of the Silver age is so insane.... Actually most of it is as insane.. But a lot of it it a fair bit more happy and reliable then a story about a insane woman stalks her boyfriends father in the past. There some good stories in the silver ages to even if they tend to be a bit on the insane side. Sometimes the characters are actually reliable. I mean it is the age where Spiderman was born and Peter Parker is made to be a reliable character.

    I LOVE the delirium of some of the silver age stories. Remember the TV episode, in which two small time crooks got into an argument over lemon pie? One said that his ex girlfriend made the best in the world, while the other claimed that his mom (if memory serves) did. They agreed to get pies from both women and find someone to judge which was best. Of course, both women refused. The GF had a new squeeze, who was currently manning a remote tracking station in Alaska and for whom she'd baked one of her lemon pies. She placed an ad in The Planet, asking Superman to fly the pie to the guy. (poetry not intended) Meanwhile, a hillbilly, played by Chuck Connors, arrived in Metropolis, with his pet mule in tow. He's really impressed "with them fancy hitchin' posts y'all got up here". (Parking meters.) When he checked into a hotel, we learned that his name is Mr. Superman. Everyone assumed that he was the real thing, in disguise. He found out about the ad and agreed to "fly" to Alaska, with the pie. Of course, this meant chartering a plane, which he did. When he reached the outpost, with the gangster in pursuit, and the real Superman showed up, the poor boyfriend decided that not any of this lunacy could possibly be happening and concluded that isolation had driven him insane. The episode ended with him sitting down and sharing the pie with Superman, who explaind that he was not crazy. I did NOT know that David Lynch had ever written for the show. As to the creepiness of the Lois Lane story, yeah, not good. It reminds me of how I felt when 'Smallville' cast one of my favorite Hollywood beauties, Annette O'Toole, as Martha Kent. Now, I'm hot for Superboys' mom and THAT is just SO wrong! :-/ Thanks a heap, Warner Brothers!

    BTW, Scott - this makes at least two of your pieces that ended up relegated to a special Pre-Crisis alternate Earth called Earth-B, being this one and your pal Mopee. Anytime DC ended up thinking better of a story and wanted it gone forever, they gave it to Earth-B, or they eventually did. Other stars include Catwoman as a cold-blooded thrill-killer, Batman's mentally disturbed older brother Thomas Wayne Jr., and Sgt. Rock living into the 1970's, teaming twice with a Batman who started out in WW2. A lot of these stories came from the run of a writer/editor named Bob Haney on Brave & Bold. Team-up books tend to have stuff like this - in a Thing team-up, Hercules lifted all of Manhattan island - only to have a much later book relegate this to a boast. It's an easy guess that these stories were made to fill space, and they got increasingly desperate for ideas as time went by.

    Kryptonese is the language and Kryptonian is what they call the people. Spaniard was people and language is Spanish. Although they don't use term Spaniard as much today, more like to say Spanish or Hispanic.

  • @kunverdi

    @kunverdi

    7 жыл бұрын

    I've heard Kryptonian used as the name of the language many times. It's a fictional people and language so anything is fair game. But I've heard predominantly that. However, when new people come in and change things, sometimes they make bad choices. I just don't like the sound of the word Kryptonese. To my ear, it sounds stupid. Kind of like the word comfortability (which now may or may not be a word based on colloquial usage). Anyway, back to your examples, I think the proper comparisons to use are words such as Portuguese, Chinese, German, French, Slovokian, etc... They refer to nationalities and languages. It is highly unusual and weird to mix a -ian with an -ese. There is Slovokian, and there is Chinese. But you would not mix the two endings to have one refer to a people and things of a country, and then use the other for the language. That's why it sounds stupid. And that's why it is a bad choice for even a fictional "people". It represents a basic misunderstanding of how the English language works, i.e. mistake. Hope that makes sense.

    Maybe a 10,000 subscriber special?! haha. One thing I'm trying to stray away from is origin stories and histories of characters, because I think other people do that stuff way better than I could. But if it's someone that not a lot of people talk about (like Topo or Etta Candy for example) then I don't have a problem making an episode about them. MODOK might fall under that category too.

    I've wanted to do Booster Gold for a while. I just love time travel stuff (as you can see from the video above). But I want to try to throw in some added value or question if I were to do origin stories. Like the Moon Knight episode asking the question "Is Moon Knight Marvel's Batman?" I want to start acting more questions to spark conversations and debates. It's always fun to learn from those in the comments who are much smarter than I am!

    i can't really remember when exactly the silver age of comics was but i think it was somewhen in the fifties and you have to know that after world war II there were very few men compared to women - that lead to the iconic fifties look, because every woman tried to be the prettiest and/or best she could be to "trap" a man and secure a future and a family. there are many articles and youtube videos that adress this topic (i personally prefer the historically acurate makeup video, but i can also understand why you might not be that interested in that one ;D)

    Well there is an actual misconception involved. Some people believe that the first dc team was the JLA when in fact the JSA was there long before hand. Same goes for marvels team the invaders which pre dates ff and the avengers. I think there are several other teams and stuff that most people don't know exist. Plus its golden age version is perfect for explaining how golden age WW2 era comics and war stuff was without to much racism. Blackhawks (another early dc team) is the ultimate ww2 comic and is incredibly racist in so many levels. It's interesting that there is so much continuity in the golden age for dc even though most of these books are tie together. Like apparently dr.midnight is a legacy hero who is actually kinda important and I never even knew he existed till a few months back.

    The Team was called the All Winner Squad back in the 1940's and they retconned it into being the Invaders after the Fantastic Four already existed. All Winner Squad had Namor the Submariner, Human Torch, Toro(teenager like Human Torch but dark hair), Whizzer with Super speed, Captain America, Bucky, Miss America with super strength, tough, speed,and flying.

    She's going back in time, ok, she's having kinda flirt with jor-el, fine, she getting trapped in the phantom zone, right, but how comes that she exists on earth several years later? according to this story there couldn't be a lois lane, cause she's a phantom before her birth, so she actually never existed in superman's life, and couldn't have done all this things. or are there two lois lanes now? now i am confused.

  • @NerdSyncProductions

    @NerdSyncProductions

    10 жыл бұрын

    She was trapped in the phantom zone as an adult. The adult Lois has no impact on the child Lois so she could still be born. The way I understand it is Lois was born, she grows up and gets to know Superman, she has this big time travel adventure and gets trapped in the phantom zone. That all makes sense, but she's been living in the phantom zone for so long. According to the story, Superman found her in the phantom zone a few days after she went to the presentation and took the time machine. Why couldn't Superman find her in the phantom zone before? She's been in there for decades. Why is it just now that she reveals herself? That's what I'm confused about.

  • @DStrormer

    Random guess: Maverick? Also, Lois is kinda jacked up in the silver age. Not that the comics I grew up with were some kind of Shakespeare, but then again Shakespeare was written for the illiterate, common masses so I guess 90's ftw.

    +kick1232 Nah that's not how time travel works. She went back in time, leaving the current time line were she knows him and has already meet him. Had she died back there then it would of been like she just went missing never to be seen again in the current time line. The hole getting put in and then brought back out, makes it more like she was only gone for a few min's, hr's days all depending on the time lapse between the moment she went back in time say, Monday, and however long it took superman to notice her in the phantom zone, say Friday. Then She would of been missing for those few days is all.
