Logitech MX Master Mouse Not Tracking - Gesture Button Fix

Is your Logitech MX Master mouse not working? Is the gesture button doing wild things or is your cursor failing to move properly?
Here's the way to get it working again.
What you need:
- A busted MX Master mouse
- A tiny security torx screwdriver - T5
- A tiny philips screwdriver - Philipps 000
- Double Sided Tape - for re-adhering the little black bumpers on the bottom.
Steps:
1. Pull of the two pastic strips on either side of the bottom of the mouse to expose the screws
2. Remove the Torx Screws & Philips Screws
3. Gently pry the top of the mouse from the base
4. Use your screwdriver to loosen the black screws that hold down the gesture button. 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn on each screw should do it.
5. Pop the top back on the mouse and give a try.
6. Reassemble your mouse.
7. Live a great life!

For those wondering, the screw patterns are torx 4 for the small screws and Philips 0 for the large ones

@@REDNBLUEBROS1337 Yeah - you are right, they are indeed Torx T5 and not T4🙂 T4 will do but if you have them, T5 is a better choice. And for the little circuit board, I found PH00 works although a very fine 1.5mm flat blade will also work. So I used 3 drivers in all, PH0 for the 4 screws under the sticky pads, T5 for the two screws at the front, and PH00 for the circuit board.

Awesome, I'm glad to hear it worked for you and that this was able to help. I was pretty distressed when mine stopped working and even reached out ot logictech, but since it was out of warranty I just decided to give it a go. I'll bet a lot of people have tossed their old mouse in the landfill thinking it was irreperable, when in fact this tiny fix would keep it running.

Nice video. The problem is not actually the screws being too tight, but that the living hinge under that button wears out/bends over time. Remove that mini pcb, and then remove the little living hinge panel below it. Bend the living hinge in the opposite direction of the button (gingerly) to get back some of that “spring”. If you’re just loosening the screws, you’re allowing the living hinge to bend even FARTHER.

A more common precision Phillips gets the other 4 and the micro-switch inside. Best wishes.

The dark panel is a little damaged/teared up now though (but asolutely worth it imo), so pls beware it might tear up abit. Though if i would do it with screwdrivers, i would have to tear up the dark parts under the mouse, so yeah.. theyre still whole, so thats a win^^ lol

Startpaged (hm, just doesn't have the same ring as "Googled") for steps on the issue, which cropped up on my MX Master 2S after 23 months of ownership, and found this video. I'd worked out where the issue was, but "loosen the screws by half a turn" was what I needed to know in advance to sort it out quickly and easily - thanks! On a related note, gotta love how manufacturers put screws under rubber pads, so you have to mutilate your gear in order to poke around. I get that they want to know if your stuff's been "tampered with" so they can deny warranty if need be (though you'd think "yeah we looked inside it and it's fucked" would be sufficient evidence), but giving you no option to do it cleanly and correctly is a shitty side effect. It's not as obnoxiously anti-consumer as Apple or some of Microsoft's recent garbage, and it's not what I'd call egregious, but it's pretty annoying.

Nicholas, thanks a million! That's what I like about KZread. 5 minutes with my toolbox and your tutorial and my biggest disappointment of the day (my favourite mouse failing to perform) is resolved. If I may suggest, for those who attempt to do this, don't use your nail to peel of 'plasticky thingies' on the bottom - uses some sort of flat tool like a screwdriver or similar - I ended up splitting one of them in half as it was peeling in the middle. Also, screwdrivers I used *1.2, PZ0, PZ1 (hopefully helps someone).

Woke up this morning, turned on my computer, and the my MX Master was dead. I charged it, tried it, and there was no mouse pointer. I found this video and tried the fix. BOOM! Mouse is back in perfect condition. Also explains the battery drain (button being held down in perpetuity). Thanks for making this, now I need to cancel my Amazon order for the MX 3. :)

THANK YOU!!!!! You saved me from buying a new one! I was looking for a disassembly manual and you just exactly described the issue I had. It felt like the gesture button was stuck too and I was ready to just rip it out (I hardly use it) but now I just fixed it with your help. Thanks man!

Good demonstration. My Master 2S stopped tracking but the wheels and buttons were working fine. After loosening those two screws for about one and half rotations, everything works perfectly.

Great fix. My MX 2 jsut stopped the other day and I was all out blaming the previous nights MS update. But then I checked it out on my W10 desktop and the W11 laptop, same result :( Found this video to be about the best on fixing this issue. Clear, uncomplicated instructions. Well done Sir!

Excellent solution. I have fixed my mouse using your method. Just one thing I did in different way - to remove hidden screws I did small holes in front of the screwsin the plastic piese and loosened the screes without their removal. Thanks a lot Nicholas.

Thank you. This instructional video helped me revive my mouse in 2021. Although having to remove the friction pads to access four screws beneath them is annoying. You cannot get them back like the stock one anymore.

Thank you so much for this! This really helped me fix my MX Master 2S. I first thought my problem was with the sensor itself so I tried cleaning it but to no avail. Then I saw this video and that fixed it up pretty well. I really need this mouse for my job as a programmer. I never realized how much scrolling through lines of code to be a chore till I broke my MX Master 2S. Thank you. Thank you!
