I still love this album. I don’t know how well the plot was executed but the music is wonderfully constructed. No bad tracks. All fire. Now UP is my favorite from him, but this is not too bad as a second.

Rap critic I’ve been watching your videos for about a year now and I highly respect your opinion and your ability to interpret lyrics in your own way. BUT. I have to strongly disagree with your opinion on Logics album. You said that these songs are forgettable and I would counter your point with the production on this album. 6ix’s beats really shine on this album and the beats themselves are unique and extremely memorable. Second, you spent quite a bit of time on the skits which in my opinion just misses the point of them, there not supposed to be taken seriously and there heavily inspired by anime and movies. I just felt like you took the skits WAY to seriously when there just suppose to be fun. I would agree that logic doesn’t keep a steady overlying topic and yes I would agree that he doesn’t really talk about much on his songs but with songs like Stainless, his flow, the production and the speed of his raps makes it one of my favourite songs to this date. I could say a lot more but overall I felt like you were extremely harsh on this project. Also you guys mentioned that there were comments about this being his best album....It’s definitely not. Just go listen to Under Pressure and you’ll understand why I’m so passionate about Logic and his music. But like I said I respect your guys critics but I just CAN NOT agree.

The bars aren’t gonna deal with space that much because, in the story, the album was written hundreds of years before any of the space migration shit happened.

Damn I am the FIRST one here for Little Brother? pretty spot on, actually Phonte who is the singer would have been on the concept heaviness. The main problem with the album is the skits follow the formats of skits from the 90's. And the point of their lines being corny, it usually comes up when they complain about industry politics. Sean Price won over in this department with one simple direction, he wrote about the life of a broke rapper instead of complaining about not being a rich one in his songs. That way, people got to know him. Back to LB, Kendrick's TPAB perfected this subject matter but this was definitely a big step in the right direction

I disagree about "cheatin". I don't think it was full of jokes, but I always enjoyed it as a goofy jab at those relationship songs Ala-usher and how overly-serious those were. Playing on tropes like the counting bridge and I always got a kick at how Phonte incorporated his Mark Morrison impression in. If you haven't seen it, look up his cover of "Return of the Mack". Also, in regards to the Minstrel Show concept, it was a job at mainstream rap and how a lot of it was just like a minstrel show. LB had a certain type of humor that relied on cultural winks and nods. Phonte still puts a lot of that in his music (peep his new album, seriously).

Has it really been so long that you don't recognize that Cheatin is an *extremely* transparent parody of those Isley/R.Kelly collabo joints of the early 2000s? It's so weird that you critique the album for not setting up that ending when you missed it doing exactly that. I guess it didn't come through without the context of the time?

  • @dondaddan

yeah the Percy Miracles character, is a parody of what was and is wrong with RNB ie the copy cats(copying Rkelly or how the industry had forced RKelly to diminish his talents etc), the whole concept of the Album was all about the fuckery present in rap/hip hop .The minstrel show as an album ,is structured and presented as a Tv show "Live at the Apollo" which also used to air on the UPN network back in the day. If one never listened to the listening which is presented as a radio show then it might be difficult to pick up on what little brother were trying to accomplish at that time especially with their skits, but if one thinks Phonte and Pooh are average rappers and not great and thinks Kanye is even a good rapper then thats how, we get to, where we are now, mediocrity. Even Kanye himself said he had to step his game up and was inspired by Phonte's Rhyming skills, he did tour with Little brother , yet as soon as he charts he denies ever complimenting Phonte .

Rap Critic I doubt you'll see this but if you do I hope you catch what I'm saying. I think the best way to describe/recommend a logic album/mixtape is to explain the differences between his older from new stuff. He had one hell of an album with Under Pressure because it was a simple concept. The title song set that up beautifully and it was focussed, clear and didn't have any massive greater meaning behind the story telling. Come to the Incredible True story and Everybody, it just looks like he's trying to push the boundaries past his capabilities. The ambition is admirable but it's falling flat on its face. He's got too many songs with too many throwaway lines both in creativity and meaning. Go back to under pressure and it's truly his best album because it's the only time he has balanced the creativity with the story telling and the overall rapping. Some examples include: Under Pressure - 2 verses of him rapping about his pressures, a verse from his sisters perspective of how she feels about his absence since pursuing rap, his fathers perspective of how he wants to use his son for the perks of being famous, then a 5th verse of logic responding to these people. Gang Related - 2 verses, 1 from his perspective growing up in his home town and 1 from his brothers perspective back in the day. Nikki - A song entirely based around the idea of being addicted to someone by the name of nikki, with the end result of the song being about his problems with smoking. The truth his these songs and much more on the album is just better story telling and is really worth the listen. Perhaps you won't do a review but I urge you to listen to the album. It may not make you love logic after so many disappointing listens but I am certain you may find some gold in this project.

Logic's work is really ambitious for sure but, its is his biggest strength and weakness. He pulls it off with a dope flow and delivery but he falls short always veering off topic or resorting to nonsense throw away bars to try and hype shit up..., and often when trying to sound like a "smart" rapper he can trip himself up. He has bars, but for as many bars hit, I cant listen to a Logic song without noticeable short comings

Past’s Music I thought so at first too but after a year of digestion it’s my least favorite (still good tho). May I ask why?

Trevor R. This is my favorite because I show relation to some of the things he talks about and I really liked the concept of Adam and God

Logic fans like me are cringing rn lol, as a big fan of him ima be honest, flow wise he is great, but when he gets on topics like he did on Everybody, just doesn’t work

I really like the logic album, but it's still one of my least favorite ones, it sounds generic to me, I like a couple songs, but not most. My favorite logic album in under pressure, thats a real banger

He's a Logic hater. He didn't do Stainless cuz it was a master piece. He didn't credit him for what he did right just the stuff he did wrong.
