Excellent explanation of making a harmony track in Logic and also what some amateurs do not realize is that you can just drag the notes up to the "3rd", etc and think you are done. Nice Job as always explaining the Logic technical part as well as music theory

Amazing, as always. Would be super cool to see your work in what you did differently to the 3rd L and 3rd R panning and also when to go up to the 5th or 7th as you did in the additional project tracks. You always have and always will be the best Logic Pro X guru!

Hi, I would like to know how to isolate/extract vocals in a song (lesson 17) in Logic Pro 10.7/1. When I open up the file editor, when I hit command A to select all, nothing happens and there is nor Invert option in my Functions. Is there another way that this is done in the Logic Pro 10.7.1?

It was a band you mentioned somewhere in this series that you said inspired some parts of this composition. I just remembered that I wanted to check them out today but never wrote down their name. Can you tell me who they are again 😅

I enjoy your videos very much. The one thing I don't like about created harmonies is the vocals are exactly on beat with one another. Does it make any sense to Quantize the harmony so that it's not exactly on the same beat as the melody?

@Luis Cancion on one of his replies, he said that Melodyne works better, but we're just trying to figure out a way to get rid of the clicks without using $600.

Nope, Flex Pitch is kind of a crapshoot. sometimes it's clean, other times it's not. I use Melodyne primarily for vocal tuning because I don't get those artifacts. I wish Logic would do an overhaul on Flex Pitch and get it to work a bit better.

@LucMaster If you can afford it, you can start out on the less expensive Melodyne 4 Essential which is $99 and it’ll do pitch & timing correction. Then if you want to you can upgrade to the next levels when Celemony have a sale on. That’s what I did and saved a lot of ££

Question: I have heard a lot of people complain that there are pops and clicks in the flex pitch function. Is there truly NO way to get rid of them?

I mean, you can find a De-Click plug-in, like isotope RX7. I've used it to get rid of artifacts in projects that clients have sent me, but if you're going to drop more money on another plug-in, you might as well use melodyne.

There is a chance that other plugins may fail as well. Was there a time when Melodyne has failed you?

  • @MusicTechHelpGuy

I've never had any pops or clicks with Melodyne. I've tuned some vocals in the past that were pretty bad, but that's just because the vocal take was bad, not Melodyne's fault. I do like the fact that Flex Pitch omits consonant sounds from the analysis, but you can do the same in Melodyne, just by leaving those notes alone. Melodyne has never failed me in respect to quality or glitching out. Another issue I have with Flex Pitch is it's highly glitchy -- it does really weird things sometimes. There were a couple moments when I made this video that I had to cut out, and start over, because Flex Pitch pitch glitch out on me.

I recently got ahold of Waves tune. How would that plug in compare to flex pitch in regards to the clicks and pops? Or would you just recommend melodyne over that, and if so, will the basic version get the same job done? I just can’t justify a $500+ purchase on it because I only record myself at home

Artificial harmonies will always sound robotic, no matter what you do. The only way to avoid that is to have the singer just sing all the harmonies.

The video I was watching was m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/f5eCqbV7lZudeZs.html and the error was at 2:42 where there was a movement from C to F, which is a perfect 4th.

thanks -- the flex pitch is what I use most in Logic and have occasionally created harmonies with that, for instance in this song ("have you ever seen the rain" , in the "who'll stop the rain" bit: )kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqmBzqtwY6_gcbg.html

I think it would be better when you have the harmonies to record them with the vocalist. What you've done is neat but I couldn't listen to that as a song.

There is no interval called a major 5th. AND the harmony part you created was a perfect 4th.

  • @MusicTechHelpGuy

What video are you watching? I'm well aware there is no such thing as a major 5th, nor did I ever refer to an interval as a major fifth at any point in the video. The harmonies I created in this video are major and minor 3rds, not P4's.
