    One more trick for you. Throwing a second compressor (fully initialised and mix knob to zeroed) at the end of the master chain just to view the graph for how your wave form is peaking, behaving is so powerful. Use the compressor as the first plugin in the master track chain to view the output dynamics of each track by soloing it. Adjust the track compressor and view the master compressors graph simultaneously to see what is happening in real time. No need for other plugins Logic pro has it all.

    As a Reason owner and a bedroom producer, I recently picked up M1 Mac with Logic X and I am stunned with amount of instruments and effects. Everything I could possibly need is included. I think it's the best deal in the industry with all those free updates, the sampler looks insane.

    Logic has some of the best stock plugins out of all DAWs. Generally if you have to spend money on vsti, buy instruments and sample libraries, hold off on effects. Instruments are naturally more inclined towards creating, while effects more towards embellishments/problem solving.

    I've been using Logic for years and there's still so much to learn, especially with the most recent update. Huge appreciation for Chris, his channel, and this series! 🙏

    Thank you so much for these short on topic videos. Logic, which I’ve only had about 6 months now, overloads my (old) brain, there’s so much going on here. I have music I did on an old Porta Studio 4 channel cassette that is in desperate need life support, and I think you’re the ticket to help me out! Yay!!!

    That was extremely helpful. I’m new to logic and new to daw as a whole, and as a pianist was somewhat bewildered as to what a compressor was or did. Thanks to your wonderfully paced video, I have a better idea 😁👍🏻

    You know, I have a LOT of compressor plugins but over the last couple of years, I’ve really come back around to so many of the built-in Logic effects, especially the compressor, which I love. But I learned so many good things on this video (that makeup gain is BEFORE the dist., the flexibility of the sidechain eq, the visual graph display, etc. all of which I’d somehow skipped. Super cool - keep up the nifty work.

    Same. I don't know why I bother downloading all the free compressor plugins available when I almost always use Logic's built-in. At least I have mostly resisted paying for any.

    I agree the logic compressor is amazing, and I rarely use anything else (and I’ve got quite a lot of other choices through other packages, like izotope neutron and ozone). The one thing it can do though is compress only certain bands in the spectrum that more advanced plugins can do (unless I’ve missed something).

    I used Logic 8 and 9 and then took nearly 10 years away from making music. I just got Logic x (most recent version) and have been blown away. I have no idea why anyone would want to use another DAW or need any third party plugins at this point. I also feel like the price I paid for Logic is considerably less than I ever played for the previous versions. Bonkers.

    Nice introduction. But I don’t like the emulations really. I use the platinum digital a lot for side chaining. But when it comes to emulation I trust my UAD plug-ins. The sound much more like the real thing an also look like them. This is cool because limitations are good to make decisions 👌🏾

    I have watched this video quite a few times now lol I come for the compressor types and stay for all the other stuff I always think I remember! Compressors haven't always been my strongest area, I used to be bad about just picking a preset and getting the graph and meter to move just a bit, check the post vs pre levels and then that's it! Maybe throw a side chain on a 808 or something else here and there but that's about as far down the compressor Rabat hole I usually go... I also tend to abuse limiters in the place of a compressor, maybe one day I will be a compressor God but until that day....

    🤔 7:03 Kinda confused...What exactly would happen IF you DIDN'T have the makeup gain knob in this example??? Why can't you just increase the input gain on the left to get the level closer to 0 db so you can hear the distortion??? 3 different gains just for compression....weird lol

    All thats good and well to get that instrument adjusted to perfection but then putting it back into the mix all this fiddling around gets lost, work fast get things close play the track and EQ it to death, thats my mission anyways, am I wrong with my approach, feel free to comment as I for one have a lifetime to figure what makes this sound great again ; }
