You’re seriously so amazing for these videos. You really started grinding the hell out of explaining logic and I’m so thankful because I’m more of a monkey see monkey do type of learner, rather than a manual reader. I can’t thank you enough for sharing this for free 🎉❤ I don’t have the cash to be paying for lessons so it’s truly appreciated

Some time around 25 minutes of this video you say „… incredibly helpful …“ and that‘s true for me for almost the whole video except the part at the end dealing with Live Loops. I haven’t dealt with those so far and probably won‘t deal with that topic as long as I‘m not firm with the actual Logic. Thanks for video #35. I‘ve seen them all from 1 to 35 and will watch the oncoming ones as well!

Thank you for making these videos. This series was very informative and I learned a lot of tiny details that I didn’t know, even though I’ve been using logic for 10 years. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series. Since you seem to know everything 😀 I’ve got a more advanced question. Is there a way to eliminate guitar string noise, or squeeks, made by chord changes (sliding up or down the neck)? Sometimes my electric guitar take is great, but it’s ruined by my sliding fingers. By the way, I enjoyed last month‘s Q&A. You should do more of these, ex : 5 or 6 questions per videos.

Very helpful video! I've got a refurbished iPad mini 4 on the way, I think this is the solution I've been looking for. I use a StreamDeck XL at my studio desk that can handle many of these same tasks, but I mostly needed something to bring with me to the drums so I can quickly re-do a take. I'm sure I'll find plenty more uses for it as well.

Can you elaborate on Logic Remote’s usefulness in the Drummer section of the program getting deep into the x/y pad to craft lots of drummer regions that have their own twist to the drum writing and also converting to MIDI regions to fine tune even more as well the Producer kits?

Great video - I tried Logic Remote and on the mixer screen the faders for software instruments don't move the faders in logic unless I select automation to off (they don't work in 'read'). I notice in your video the tracks are set to read and the faders are working. For me, everything else works including faders on audio tracks and busses - so I don't know why midi tracks on read aren't working?! If you have any ideas I'd be very grateful to get this working as it seems awesome otherwise!

Josh, terrific video. Can I use the iPad remote to automate various features of plugins - for example, let's say I only wanted to automate the mix level of a plugin, or one feature of a plugin (maybe one parameter of a third-party saturation plugin) that I'm using as a send, can I do that via the faders on iPad Logic remote? Thanks.

I've been researching the best expression and dynamics fader for use in Logic with the Spitfire Heirlooms software. Their demo video shows the Nuances fader which looks great but is a bit pricey and is hand-built in France and the stock is currently depleted. I was wondering if I could use Logic Remote to accomplish this.

I have a problem my ipad doesn't seem to be able to map correctly to Logic, is not controlling the correct channel tracks, if I move the fader 1 for example, on logic in my mini the fader that moves is fader 25, and when I move any other fader it moves any other random fader except the one I want. Is there a way that I can properly map the fader functions so I can control it like if I where controlling a mixer? Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, no way to get audio from the iPad, I believe. But even if you could there would be a noticeable delay. Get a small headphone amplifier box, then you can run a TRS or XLR cable to the box, keep the signal balanced to reduce noise in the headphone mix, and then plug your headphones into the headphone amp.

  • @MusicTechHelpGuy

Quick Sampler to Ultrabeat, no, not easily. You could load up Quick Sampler as a PAD in Drum Machine Designer though? But honestly if you're really set on using UB, you might just grab the audio file from Quick Sampler, chop it up manually, and then add it to Ultrabeat or DMD, then it would just be drag and drop.

Hi, I had a little issue with my Logic and wanted to know if you could help me with that. So, I'm trying to record MIDI percussion, using the native library that comes with Logic, but when I load the "Blocks and Bells Performance" patch, and I load "Sampler" in "Multi output" mode, it doesn't assign the single instruments such as Jamblocks and Cowbells to the right outputs, it all stills coming from the main outputs, I already checked than all the Groups Outputs into Sampler where assigned correctly, but it doesn't seems to work. I found it weird because when I do the exact same process with the "Conga Performance" and "Timbales Performance" patches, it does recognize all the assigned outputs in "Sampler" and it works perfectly, I hope you guys can help me!

You’re a great teacher, a great speaker a great explainer and an all around great human. And thank you for the yellow arrows. They’re so helpful. I do have a question. At 10:15 your tracks at the end are in the red. Is that ok or if I see that should I back the faders down some? Also, I’ve heard that if you’re using an older version of a MacOS, that if you update Logic Remote, you can brick the whole thing because it isn’t backwards compatible.. Does that mean I should never update it? I’m running a 2011 MBP, MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and cannot update my OS any further. I’m also using Logic Pro X 10.3 and don’t think I can even update that any further. I refuse to buy a new laptop lol. I’ve upgraded the one I have with SSD and maxed out RAM and I love it. Going to replace battery soon since I’m over 1400 cycles. Battery still last a while tho. Anyhow, I’m scared to death of updating Remote and I’ve tried my best to make sure automatic updates are turned off. INSTANT SUB. 😊

There is one track that is clipping in that example. It's the one with the clip light at the top. Logic's meters are a bit confusing... they use orange at the top for the clip light, but the top of the meter is red. So having red in the top of the meters doesn't necessary means that you're clipping, only if you see the clip light turn on. It's possible that your version of Logic is not compatible with future versions of Logic Remote. While I have not seen this myself, I would just stick to the version that is currently working for you. I had a similar experience with my Behringer X18 and the X-Air iPad app.

Hi Josh, At 17:00, Remote Recording, where is your mic? Wouldn’t it still have to be connected to your interface? It would be great if a mic could be sent to the iPad and one could record in a separate room. I guess that’s wishful thinking on my part. (I have a soundproof room in my basement that would be ideal) Anyway, another great tutorial! I have Logic Remote on my iPhone but had no idea it could do so much. Thanks, Gianni PS: Glad to hear there are more videos to come.

  • @MusicTechHelpGuy

The mic is connected to my interface. You wouldn’t want it to be like a thunderbolt/USB on the iPad because the compression applied to the audio and latency would be inadequate for recording. I have a stage box that runs through the wall to the next room. For your situation you could just get 100 foot XLR cable and run it down if there’s enough length. Or drill a hole in the wall and find a way to route it down through the walls to the basement.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy That made me laugh out loud! 😁 But probably would work. No, I understand all the latency and compression issues. Now if I had a MacBook running Logic…. Nah. I also think my partner would disapprove of me running cable to the basement. My setup works fine. Plenty of carpeting and throw rugs - I’m not famous yet. 😉

I actually think, that it misses a paramount element to be considered good. It’s okay for these more fun kinda stuff. But recording acoustic guitar or vocals by yourself in the booth is somewhat of a hassle compared to the Cubase solution. It lacks the possibility of viewing the tracks and arrangement window of the Logic DAW. When switching from Cubase to this, you feel that lack in an instant. You have no visual overview of where you are, where to record etc. It’s so non-intuitive that I find it hard to believe, that it’s an Apple product. It’s so fantastic to be able to see the whole arrange window and being able to select places to record. And also the regret-button is a weak point. You cannot really see, if it deleted the take or not. You just have to trust, that pushing that “back button” deletes the take, because you cannot see it. And to put that trust into an app, that sometimes doesn’t really respond when pushing the record button, is not entirely free of questioning, whether it did or not. Pushing two times might do harm to what else has been done in the session. And why is the regret-button placed such a weird place? It should be visible at all time. Sometimes I wonder, who these people are, for whom it seems impossible to make a well-thought out product.

Unfortunately, Logic doesn't have the ability to freely slip edit like that. But there is a Slip by Nudge Value shortcut that does the same thing, it's just a little more work and not quite as quick and easy to do as in Live. You can press Control Option Left or Right to slip the contents of a region left or right, but the amount it is shifted in the region is based on the nudge value you select in the toolbar.

Never turn on wifi while tracking. it has to stop and record and playback that's it... who cares about using an Ipad to touch faders? It's a DAW. you don't want to ride faders by hand anyway.. Man these software designers are dumb. thx for the video though..

How would it connect to the computer and the DAW without having any internet connection? And for me its more about the versatility of having an interface that directly talks to a Daw, while also serving the functionality of a tablet. Obviously you can spend hundreds or thousands on midi controllers and gear to have physical control over the mix. But why not have a tablet like an iPad serve multiple functions including still working as a tablet when you are not recording?
