Logic Pro 11 // ChromaGlow - Saturation & Distortion (FULL TUTORIAL)

ChromaGlow is a new saturation and distortion plugin in Logic Pro 11 that models several different hardware units, and combines the best of these into one powerful plugin. ChromaGlow is great on tracks and busses to make them pop in the mix, and can also be used to apply saturation to your masters. In this video I explain and demonstrate all of the features in ChromaGlow. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, ChromaGlow is only available if you have an Apple silicon chip computer as I found out after updating to Logic Pro 11. While some of the new features are available (I haven't tested them all yet), ChromaGlow is not if you have an Apple Intel chip computer. I had a somewhat similar issue with Master Assistant when I upgraded to Logic Pro 10.8.1 in November 2023. But at least I can still use Master Assistant. I'm just limited to one "Character" choice which is the "clean" setting. All the other character choices are grayed out with a message saying you must have an Apple silicon computer. In the case of ChromaGlow, it doesn't even show up on my list menu. Not even a limited version of it. Come on Apple, my computer isn't that old (2019). I've never had this issue with any of the other Plug-In manufactures. As long as I'm running the required operating system, I'm usually good to go. I got to believe Apple could have designed this to also work on an Intel chip, but chose not to for obvious reasons $$$$.

Yeah, it's a real disappointment. I spent a lot of money on my 2020 iMac and to not have access to some of these features is a real let down from Apple.

thanks, as ever! looking forward to the influx of info this week. possible request: i make music with a friend who plays guitar and we used the old stock logic drummer for years. i'd generally load up a kit and find a pattern/player we liked. then i'd switch the kit to a producer kit (later after we'd assembled the song) so we could apply plugins to each kit piece (and because the producer kits just seemed to sound more pro). if there are any big changes in the drummer area, it'd be cool to have an episode about it. i was playing around with it today and it seems relatively self explanatory, but i could very well be missing some gems.

I’m sure you already know but once you’ve put it on a track and are happy with your settings you can freeze or print the track. This was standard operating procedure for me for quite a few years till I recently upgraded my computer because all plugins (especially virtual synths) have been getting more and more CPU heavy.

There are other chrome glow style plugins out there that doesn’t require you spending thousands upgrading your Mac the apple silicon versions. Same with stem splitter……RIP works a lot better. These 2 options are just a nice to have built into Pro logic 11

Although I can use Master Assistant, I'm limited to only using the "Clean Character" type. All the rest are grayed out. But at least I can use Master Assistant.
