Cool setup there, I'd like one for one of my trailers just to move blown down trees/logs to the burn pile or just kind of a portable crane. Looks like you are good to go in the equipment department.

Thanks, it works great. We just take the arch off and use it for an Equipment trailer

Nice video. I have a similar setup with the same winch. I wish this winch had a spooling guide. I’ve had to hook it to a tree to unspool it because of crossing the cable on the spool. Also I need to manage that crashing down of the arch and find a way to unload it without a tree to anchor a block.

Nice work, but you scared me standing so near that cable under such tension! Would have been nice to know what winch capacity you were using and also what tubing dimensions on the log arch. Thanks for sharing this endeavor!

The winch capacity is 8000 lbs. and the tubing was 2in X 3in X 1/4 wall. That is why I kept putting old coveralls on the cable. That would help to prevent cable from snapping towards me. Thanks for commenting and watching.

Trying to decide if my 10ft trailer is worth putting an arch on

10 ft is ok. Its the GVW of the trailer that matters. If you dont have 6 or 7000 lb axles its not worth it. that trailer is a 15000 gvw trailer. I wouldnt go anything less than 12000 gvw. It wouldnt be worth the expense of building the rest of the trailer for anything less. Just Remember, you will over load it !!!

With the right tools you can make it look easy. That’s a huge log. What kind of winch did you use?

Yes it was very big. I took it to a farm scale and it weighed 7600 lbs. I wanted to practice on a few smaller logs but I had to get this log out for the customer. It was our first one. It handled it better than I thought it would. That was a Harbor Freight 8000 lb winch. They usually stock that one but can order a 12000 lb. If I built it again I would get the 12000 lb. just for extra power. Thanks For the comments

How is the swamp draining going?

We just got through cleaning all the trees from around it. Owner has decided to move the dam downhill about 50 yards. That's turned into a monster. The mud is still too thick to handle .

Wow, sounds like there is a lot of mud. Hopefully you’ll find away around it soon!
