Lodz - The Polish Manchester

Welcome to Łódź, one of the lesser visited of Poland's great cities, but actually one of my favourites.
Learn some myths, histories and sites of this fine city and discover another side of Poland, see the industrial history of Poland, see some wonderful architecture and learn of the cold history of World War 2.
But ultimately see for yourself one more trail on our Polish tour :)
Adding a special thank you to my friend Adrian Musial who provided me with some extra history for this video :
Brit in Poland is the genuine account of a British Expat who lives in Warsaw, through this account I want to show people what it is like to live abroad, to educate people about the country of Poland, to tell the history of Poland and to show off what this place has to offer, providing guides to locations I have visited and experiences I have taken part in.
I am a start up KZread channel, so getting featured in the search engine can be hard, so I ask the following, if you like this video I promise you there will be many more to come, so please like, subscribe or comment...if you are feeling particularly generous then please share with your friends :D
I am always open to suggestions on how to improve, places to visit or topics to cover, so never be afraid to comment, I try to respond to all comments on my channel and engage with my viewers!

I couldn't agree more. Being in Manchester was thinking about Lodz and the apocalyptic reality; like in the polish movie 'O-Bi, O-Ba: The End of Civilization'.

I have heard three explanations of why this city was named: 1. Comes from the noble family surname "Łodzice", and the city's coat of arms comes from its image on which the boat is depicted 2. From the old Polish male name "Włodzisław" 3. From the Old Polish term for gray willow - "łozy" Hope that helps :) Cheers

In my opinion train station in Lodz is one of the most unique and nicest in Europe. But anyway, I have another comparison for you - city of Katowice is Polish Sheffield. The reason being is lot's of foundries, metallurgy plants in general in that region.

There is so much tragedy, so much suffering this country has endured, I didn’t want to cover something like that quickly. My hope with my videos is to inspire people to visit these places and learn the truth for themselves. In the future when I have the freedom to travel some more I would like to do more specific videos focusing on such history. Thank you for sharing the video, these things are hard to watch, but we must not forget what happened

Masz racje.

You forget the Russians haha, but you can say the Polish created the city and are certainly behind the massive film industry there...the cotton industry though I’m not so sure, but there would have been a lot of Polish women working in the mills and factories certainly, in fact the population of Lodz at some time was mainly women because of this

A couple of industrial magnates Poznański and Scheibler doesn't make this city German and Jewish. The situation was a bit more complicated, the division line was rather the religion, then nationality here. If you are wondering what happened to "Germans", or rather people with a German ancestry living in Lodz, the answer is that they live here today if they didn't support nazis. They ware persecuted during German occupation even more then ethnic Poles, so don't be so excited about that.
