I've been using Loctite 3x from the beginning of my elevator cladding business. I use it in combination with spray contact glue so I can slide my parts to exactly where I need them, whack em home on the contact glue with a rubber mallet and a wood block, and then roll the cladding flat. One thing you didn't mention and anyone who has used Liquid junk in the past is that there is a huge bubble about half way down inside of every tube...EVERY TUBE. The bubble gets compressed when you start dispensing the product, and then the bubble pushes out a ton more after you've squeezed out what you needed. It's a clever way for them to make you have to buy more because that bubble pushes out a LOT OF GLUE. Additionally, it takes forever to cure, and even when it does cure, your test shows the result. So glad you put their feet to the fire. Liquid Nails is not as the name would have you believe.

Gorrila construction adhesive is waterproof….It passed a 2 week flood test, no leaks. I use it to waterproof the seams of goboard backerboard in showers which is half the price compared to goboard sealant or wedi sealant, plus it acts as a flexible constructive adhesive which keeps the seams from cracking. Great stuff.

PL400 has been a contractor favorite for decades. But the new polyurethane foam-to-gel glues are quickly gaining ground due to speed of use - one can replaces 8 or more tubes of adhesive - less waste, faster to place (they have long wands available so no more bending over) and as cheap, or cheaper than PL400.

I have used all three of these. I agree that the liquid nails is just okay. I have had GREAT luck with the Gorilla !! The workability is awesome (especially overhead) and I will go with this glue because of that. The PL, I have found, spews SO MUCH of the product all over the job site, that I can no longer stand to use it ! In my opinion, there are air bubbles in the tube that should not be there and they cause the pressure that pushes out the product even when you release the caulking gun.

The point of using liquid nail is not to hold the house together it is for eliminating that squeak noise when walking around and the poping and other noise here in older houses as it heats up and cools off and expands and contraction.

Loctite Premium service temperature range is smaller than Gorilla Construction adhesive. 0F to 160F (-18C to 71C) for Loctite Premium versus -40F to 200F (-40C to 93C) for Gorilla Construction. The Loctite temp range is the same as that for all polyurethanes that I've looked at. I don't know what Gorilla Construction Adhesive is made of, but on Amazon someone asked if it was urethane based and a company rep answered no.

  • @jptrainor

    @jptrainor

    5 жыл бұрын

Did more research.... I'm pretty sure that Gorilla Construction is silicone based. Because it has a higher temperature range then polyurethane, because it remains flexible, and because the msds says that it gives off methanol when curing. The latter is a tell tale sign of silicone. Although the msds doesn't explicitly list anything I can recognize as silicone.

hello, im so glad I found your page. I was wondering if I could use a liquid adhesive like loctite to glue some metal drawer pulls to my kitchen cabinets bc I don't want to drill a hole; I don't want the wood to split? please help...thnx

Unfortunately I don’t think the application would do well here. There is so little surface area there for the glue to adhere to.

You just have to drill it.. triple check your measurement.. you should be fine

Guides are available to drill uniform holes. Otherwise just get someone skilled to do it.

Could any of these be used on a stone wall? I'm trying to hang a clock without having to drill into it. I was thinking about gluing hooks to the stone wall then hanging the clock on the hooks the clock is about 4ft round and about 20 pounds

Yes I don’t see why not! I would find a way to keep the hooks pressed firmly against the wall while the adhesive dries!

Regret getting liquid nails. Put some 1x2 wood strips on my concrete walls in my garage to install some peg boards. I’m in Florida so it’s extremely humid in my garage, don’t know if that was a factor but after 3 weeks it failed. It was not under a lot of weight, ridiculous. Going to hardware store tomorrow and getting some self tapping screws and a Masonary drill bit. Something I should have done to start.

Hi I'm trying to attach L-shaped/ sheet metal pieces to foundation of house, to come up and seal foundation, leaving No gap where singles/siding/foundation, where mice can get into house. don't want to drills into foundation and no real way to clamp it on while glue/adhesive dries. Would the product you used work for this project, if Not any idea's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill

I’m sure it would work fine. You’ll have to find a way to compress it while it dries. I don’t see any way around that. Maybe a stack of block or something. Also, If it sees weather then I would definitely make sure you flash it in a way that deflects water and allows it to get out

@@danc6222 , PL400 will work very well on the bottom plates to concrete, make sure the concrete is swept clean first. Do you have to float the walls?

6:40 is example of creep. Over time the glue can weaken. It’s not just the tensile strength but for how long can the adhesive hold.

I need a glue that will bond wood to concrete. The concrete footings of my house are 45ish years old and any drilling or nailing just shatters the concrete. I'd like to put some nice trim boards on the footings.
