• LOCTITE 577 HOW TO USE... Loctite 577 Demo
• Loctite 55 Demo Gas Wa... Loctite 55 Demo
Today I wanted to do a bit of product chat, really. So these are a few products that I've used, I've seen them at a show a few years ago, I've used them ever since, to be honest.
So, we've a Loctite 577, and then we've got a Loctite 55. So, I just wanted to show you how to use them, and give you my opinion of them. I've also got another couple of videos, which I'll have the description below, and they'll tell you how to use them.
So, what we'd use this for, is metal to metal. So, what I personally use it for mainly is radiator tails. It's absolutely brilliant, and I mean really, really good. I've used all sorts over the years, PTFA, how many rolls should we do? Do we do 20, do we do 18? Well with this, all you do, ... just put a little bit on there.
Can you imagine that with your radiator, tighten your tail end. You don't actually have to do it tight and it will seal. I normally do, just nipple up with that. So that's four.
So the Loctite 577 is for metal to metal only. That can be used on gas, it can be used on water, essentially in whatever, so that's that one.
So Loctite 55, it's a little bit like PTFE when we open it. What we've got, we just got cord in there. What we do, we just put that around, just around the thread that we're using. Just put a few layers around there. Just four thread up. Then it's got a little clip on there where it just pulls off.
Then you can just tighten it on to there. That does plastic to metal, metal to plastic, whatever you want really. I find that, again, I find it brilliant. So I just wanted to give you some feedback.
A lot of times we go to these shows and we get promised, promised things that are amazing and they're not always as good as people make out, but my experience of these two products, so the Loctite 55 and the 577, I think they're absolutely amazing.
I use the 577 quite a lot and then I use the 55 every now and again when I can't use this. So any time I'm doing metal to metal, I always use the 577. Then if it's going to be plastic, any plastic on it, I'd use this one.
So I hope that was of some use to you. If you have a look in the link below, you'll see that there's a couple of videos and they are from the manufacturers. So one went to the installer show, I think it were, or one of the shows, they did some video demonstrations for us, and they're in the links below.
So you can have a look at them and see what you think. As I say, honest reviews as always from me. I think these products are absolutely amazing. Thanks for watching

Thanks for the video Allen! I've used Loctite 55 before (on mostly brass fittings) and was happy with the results. Haven't had a chance to use 577 yet, but it looks interesting.

I'm doing all the plumbing from scratch on a house I bought at auction. This stuff saved me. Before I was redoing connections that moved when I tightened something further up the line that jarred a connection. Since I used both of these products no leaks, and I'm using plastic and copper combos all over the place. Amazing stuff.

Hey Allen, great videos! I have a question about using liquid sealants or more to the point, what do you do if you need to re-work the fitting, say if you want to replace a rad tail. Do you need to clean the old sealant out of the internal rad threads (and if so how) or can you just apply fresh sealant to the new tail and screw it home?

You do have to use their product selector charts carefully and follow the instructions assiduously for bullet proof performance. Their technical help desk are really helpful too!👍

Alan, I do maintenance for a group of care homes, most building are over 20 years old, the water turn off's under sinks and toilets are all brass, I hate going near them, if you even look at them there leaking, its got to the stage most times ill isolate the water in the roof space, Im going to start swapping these out what valve would you recommend..? I plan on using one with a thumb turn as it may be less prone to problems in the future.?. whats the difference between a full bore valve in comparison to normal one-there expensive-..?. What make of TMV would you recommend for this type of application, one that can be easily taken apart and cleaned once a year.. Thanks in advance.

the 55 is great stuff, never used the 577. Where I am we have codes which prevent the use of the 55 for iron pipe for gas. Its also impossible to fine, have to special order online in limited supply. But the 55 is aces when you cant get the pipes to seal up, instead of tring to wrap candle wick.

Dušan Barlík - Seems quite common that many don’t appreciate the difference between the two, but simply treat everything as BSP. Look on Screwfix website and they are just as bad and as for Toolstation, you get nothing more than the title i.e. the tech info is simply the part number. The only way to get more info is to look at the reviews, which is crazy. Maybe i am making sweeping statements here and tarring all with the same brush, but the way it’s done seems more based on, use this compound with that joint as they’re all 1/2” and so it’ll work...and it obviously does. But as an engineer in a different discipline, i am used to having detailed technical information to-hand and not used to having to fudge stuff to get it to work.

I use LOXEAL liquid sealant class 2 (w/o numbers) too. I guess it's the same methacrylate stuff loctite uses and others , it's cheaper than loctite and works the same. Teflon +0.20mm+ tape is not working with 1" bsp straight brass fittings , every one leaked on me, a little bump or rotating force and it leaks. Loxeal holds the fittings tight, resist vibrations and it works all the time. Only drawback is that sometimes you need a huge turning force to the sealant to yeld with 1" and above, but heat is my friend ;) . Using 250mm KNIPEX pliers wrench.

  • @dushk0
    @dushk04 жыл бұрын

I have only seen leaky yet almost impossible to unscrew connections with Loctite 55, done by plumbers who use it solely based on recommendation in the store, cause that's "the new pro stuff". Tried to redo them myself, well...done with teflon tape or paste+tow in the end. Also speaks a lot about your expertise as a plumber if you use anything else than 2 layers of teflon tape or a specialty compound dope/sealant on a platic to metal thread. Unless it was done previously with Loctite 55 - then you sure as hell need to pack it with 20+ layers of teflon, like it was metal to metal but never that Loctite crap. Or just get a new plastic fitting in that case and do it properly. I understand that there are connections where either tow or tape are inappropriate but there is still choice other than this painful rope.
