The rhythmic sound that you hear is actually a small flat spot on one of the locomotive front truck wheels. Such flat spots are undesirable but are permitted when they are within the acceptable norms during inspection by the crews from the Motive Power and Car Department of a Railway. 2017/09/05.

As,a child my father worked for Southern Pacific on the Oregon coast .One of his jobs was to run in front of the trains and open three treaties .I got to ride in a few high hoods lots of SD- 40 -2 , I even got to ride in a few cabooses .crew change was always at the coos bay depot so it was always, easy to ask the engineer. I have just recently realized how lucky I was.

Maybe you could come to Minnesota sometime. There's some extremely rare trains up there, like Yellowbonnets, Warbonnets with their original horns, BN SD40-2s (tons of those), SD75s, SD60M's, Oakway SD60's in storage in the Minnesota Commercial yard, the last two RS27's in existence, and the list just goes on. I'm not joking, I'm being completely honest.

Always neat to look around places on Google Maps. At the triangular yard in Saginaw, not only is there a turntable and roundhouse, there are also passenger coaches and an ALCO RS-series road switcher. Any idea what the story with those is?

  • @DelayInBlockProductions

The ALCO is owned by a private individual and is a former Detroit & Mackinac locomotive that once ran the rails on LSRC’s line to Alpena. The coaches belong to the Bluewater Chapter of the NRHS but I’m told they are no longer on the property as of 2020.

depends on the area. most in michigan is 25mph. where im at it was 10 from alpena to tawas until they did maintenence. where im at which is above limestone it wreaks havoc on the roads as well as rails

Good video but the general performance of the Railway reflects the pitiful state of the Plant. I suspect that the majority of the Ties are approaching the end of their service life and hence, the track is deemed to be a Class 3 at best. The resulting mediocre performance is certainly not how the Railways are going to attract lucrative business or improve their economic viability through more efficient use of their assets and personnel!!!! One can only imagine how much better the Plant would be if Society spent just a fraction it did on one of the highway overpasses shown. This is very sad to see, as this line has a huge potential and it certainly displayed better performance in the days of the Pere Marquette Railway, as the presence of high speed turnouts illustrates. 2017/09/05.

danny haley the train was still within yard limits at the start of the video and couldn't throttle up until the last car cleared

True, but once out of the yard, the speed is dictated by the permissible limits. These are in the time table and reflect the general state of repair of the plant. It is probably fair to say that in the days of the Pere Marquette Railway, this was most likely 60 MPH trackage. 2017/09/05.

Too Bad you dont know what your talking about!!!! The train is still in the Yrd when it starts going ...which if it the Flint turn it Probably close or over 100 Cars. Speed limit in the Yrd is 6 MPH. until the entire Train is Clear. Then just past Perkins you have the Hoyt Siding to the right....CM Conector (Old GTW Diamond) . and the Port Huron Sub (Left) now its 10 Mph untill your entire train is past the Port Huron Sub Frog. From there its 25 Mph (Unless a Slow Order) all the Way to Flint untill Francis Rd. where ya get ahold of the RN (CSXT) Dispatcher. Then down to Mt Morris where you stop to get RN's Permission into the Mt. Morris Siding. I dobt that the Track speed was ever 60 MPH!!! It was only 45 when i worked for the CSXT.

@@myhorses11 Why don't they borrow some money at these cheap rates and replace all the wooden ties with concrete, improve the roadbed, and get the speed limits raised?

@@ednorton47 Just an FYI,. I did not know this until today but even though this is showing my name, I did not make any of these comments. I don't work for the railroad and never have. Not sure how my name got on here.

How amazing it is July 10,2017 yet there are no leaves on the trees. I lived near Flint for about 50 years and when I was there the were always leaved on the trees by July. I guess climate change is worst than anyone thought.
