Locomotive Breath (Jethro Tull) John William Carlson
50 years ago today (March 19, 1971), Jethro Tull released the album, Aqualung. In my mind, it is one the best albums of all time.

Excellent. One of my best memories was seeing Jethro Tull live, Aqua Lung had just been released. Tull opened their performance with Ian Anderson center stage with his guitar in a spotlight, with Sossity, you're a Woman one of my favorite cuts. So they did half Benefit and half Aqua Lung. Still to this day one of my favorite concerts. Oh I forgot to mention the opening act, Yes, had just released the The Yes album. Like I said an amazing concert. Again John, excellent job, you were spot on!

aye, aye, Sir, this is awesome, thx! :)
Super! Playing & singing Locomotive Breath is not just playing the chords, strumming the rhythm and singing the tune, but it's having the feeling and letting it all out - and You DID it! Thank You.
Now I have to learn how to play this lol 😊
I think I enjoyed that rendition more than the original. Thanks!

My God that is going to be the finest cover to locomotive breath that I've ever heard what a great acoustic cover I could hear the flute in the background do you know what would be really neat if you could find someone that could play chromatic harmonica to do the fills of the flute I bet you that would sound so interesting
Nice one John ….total classic

Wow, I never thought we could play it alone on acoustic guitar.? Great version bro... I think I'll practice on this one to play at a party.?
Great cover of a legendary band and very well done, "no way to slow down" Rock on!
Nice rendition!!! I heard this at his concert in June of 1972 at the Oakland Coliseum. You really nailed it.
love it
Smashing .
nicely done !!!
Killed it!
Great job brother!
yep, thats pretty cool.
Thanks for your video. Nicely played! The first hint I ever had of Jethro Tull was a snatch of To Cry You A Song I heard while in a mall in New Jersey in 1970. Being the days before google it, it took me a while to discover what band it was and their Benefit album. Got that album and wore the grooves down to nothing (OK. Hyperbole) listening to it. Got into many of their other albums after that, of course. To Cry You A Song may still be my favorite Tull song, though it is a wonder I ever heard it played in a public venue. Tells volumes about FM radio in the good old days. Whenever I moved to a new area, I would listen for any FM station that played Jethro Tull and keep tuning in knowing I was in good hands!

Thanks Douglas. Benefit is a great album. Funny you should mention To Cry You A Song - I was in a ProgRock band back in the '80s and we used to play it live. Just recently, I was looking through some old VHS recordings and found a version of us playing it in 1989. Watching that old recording was a hoot. I'll try to upload it soon and let you know. Thanks for listening.

To Cry You a Song being played at a mall!? That’s wild. They must have had some really eclectic dude responsible for the PA. We have a local conservative talk radio guy here who plays old Tull from Stand Up and Benefit as bumper music. It’s the craziest thing, and I really dig it!

This inspired me to learn this classic on acoustic! One of my all time favorites from the radio stations hit songs. Thank you, thank , thank you, great cover your voice is perfect with the acoustic percussive strumming and awesome right hand action. Just great!
That was better than the original for me. Love the natural country flair to the vocal. Sounds like it's supposed to sound that way.
