Nice summary of all the problems with shimmable locks. You could also have included common bypass methods such as comb pick on MasterLock padlocks or twisting the actuator directly for American locks. LockPickingLawyer has lots of examples for these. Basically if you have a padlock that can be locked without a key, it's a crap lock.

These things work only on the cheapest locks you can possibly find. And for shimming attacks as in 3:00 there are much more efficient tools available. Also LPL already demonstrated how these two wrenches are used more efficiently. The easiest way to open these locks would be a simple wave rake or even a comb pick.

@@serialcoins Actually, it is "Locks keep HONEST people HONEST." I have been locksmithing since 1974, I have said it all that time. A dishonest person does not care about what the lock represents. You can always build a better lock, but another locksmith will always figure out ways to bypass it. The difference between a Locksmith and a criminal, is a locksmith will do as little possible damage to your property in order to bypass the lock, a criminal will do as little WORK as possible to bypass the lock.

@@getonthecrossanddontlookba5004 GOD, PLEASE COOK MY DINNER Some people believe God can work miracles, like cure advanced cancer or save people in terrible plane crashes. The Bible tells us that God can do anything, he can even move a mountain into the sea. These are extraordinary things. I would just like God to do something simple. When I get home from work late and dead tired, I would like to put my food on the kitchen table and have God cook it for me. Or, if that is selfish of me, I would like him to notice when an elderly woman, alone in her cold house, is dying from hypothermia and make the house warm for her. Or, if she has become too weak to get out of her chair, to make her a cup of tea and boil her an egg. Oddly, there is no known case of God doing any of these very simple things--things that almost any human could, and would, do for someone in need. God only does things that could happen without God--a proportion of people with cancer do go into remission, and sometimes there are survivors of plane crashes. But dinners do not cook themselves and cold houses do not make themselves warm. Think about this for a moment. It means the world behaves EXACTLY as it would if there was no God at all. If only God would just boil an egg once in a while. But he won't.

Nope, honest people do not need deterrance or resistance.. it's the creeps you are/are not protecting against. In USA, the threshold for minimum acceptable security is frighteningly low. We do not take security as seriously as we ought to. A higher threshold is common elsewhere in the world.

The envelope as an entity must be considered..This includes all 6 or more sides to the structure, the fenestration design, hinging and locking components. I am VERY literal. A criminal is a criminal. Those are pretty cheap and weak made locks. Let's see you do that to a lock made of harden steel and those clear practice locks are made with weak springs, easier to learn how to pick for beginners. Other than that if someone lost a key to a lock like these this video will help them.

Padlocks by ILCO and many others back in the 50s-70s were keyed and plugged as the odd make one in the videl.. it is real. The plugs were protruding and filed flush. Generally you would not easily see the seam, unless the plug was a different material than the body. Nothing I have sold in 40 years assembles like that.
