Local Brazilian Girl Shows me Her City & Shares Her Insight on Salvador Bahia 🇧🇷
Salvador, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia, is known for its Portuguese colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian culture and a tropical coastline. The Pelourinho neighborhood is its historic heart, with cobblestone alleys opening onto large squares, colorful buildings and baroque churches such as São Francisco, featuring gilt woodwork
With a population of 2.9 million inhabitants, Salvador is the third largest city in Brazil. Capital of the State of Bahia, Salvador lives by the rhythm of music and uses it successfully to convey a great sense of social cohesion within a rich multicultural city. Home to the renowned composers Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, Salvador has been the birthplace of many music genres including tropicalismo, axé, bossa nova and samba. It was also in Salvador that the “trio elétrico”; a truck popularly used as a mobile stage for large outdoor music events due to its high power sound system, was created.
In Salvador, public spaces are ideal stages to promote culture, and music in particular. Salvador is best known for its Bahian Carnival, which is the largest parade in the world with 2 million people celebrating throughout 15 miles of the city’s streets, avenues and squares for an entire week. It is estimated that this massive event represents over $248 million dollars of financial transactions. As a result, the Bahian Carnival has been responsible for promoting the local music industry on an international scale, with a significant increase of multilevel partnerships, as well as employment opportunities.

@@South_American People not saying it looks like Haiti!, however lets be realistic shall we, Brazil has three different components, I mean main components, West/Central Africa along with Mozambique, Indigenous especially in the Amazon region, and European. Those are the components that created the modern nation of Brazil, same with United States, However Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Guatemala, the main components is Indigenous and Europe. The indigenous culture is quite noticably. Likewise the African component is also noticably in Brazil, along with Cuba, Dominican Republic, etc.

Brazil would be but a shadow of what it is were it void of African culture, but I guess the same could be said for all countries that contain at least some of their African diaspora.

That’s very true. What’s unique about Brazil too is that they are very well connected to their ancestors and have kept many of the traditions. As an African man I can tell you that they are more Africans than many Africans back in Africa.

My mom knew Ivete Sangalo's parents, and the singer was in her mom's womb at that time. Years later, I saw her performing at carnival in my birth city, Petrolina (Pernambuco state), neighboring Juazeiro. I saw her very close, since I was on a 'camarote' (kind of a special area), and I remember a moment when people started throwing roses for her.

Salvador, Bahia, Brazil should be number 1 on this list. It’s more Africa than Africa. It’s 85 percent Black and often called the Black Rome.

@IvainTures If you ever travel to Mexico you should do a feature on the Olmec Head Statues and Black Mexicans as well as Bermuda and those Prymids on the Ocean floor made out of Crystal. Thus the term the Bermuda Triangle.our Ancestors were here long before what we thought are the Indegenisis People called Indians by a Man looking for India got lost found Dark people living there best life and called us and them Indians 🤔
