I like this idea with the winch mounted in the bed of the truck it's like a small version of a flatbed tow truck which would come in handy for loading lots of other things. But consider mounting the winch on the back wall of the bed, the higher position would provide better upwards lifting and keep your bed floor clear for loading to its full length.

It might take a little longer, only it adds a level of safety for both you and the truck - you won't drive off the ramps and you will NEVER smash into the cab of the truck (breaking the window or denting the frame).

The hitch mounted support bar help protect the tailgate from snapping off from the weight put on it, off course there is a manufacturer that makes support bars that replace the gate cables and rated to support the gate and load on it. The tailgate can support weight but the cables will not always hold said load, and when you watch him backing it on, its hard to align the wheels while under power onto the ramps, thus why it best and safer to use a winch.

great for a short bed but we have a long bed with a double cab - the added length would once again make us illegal when being towed - also the winch is for safety; I don't see the mad ramps replacing it.

the majority of the weight and the ATV is in the back by the rear tires of the razor or Polaris so you want that closer to the center of the truck so you'll have better control of the vehicle, for safety driving on the freeway.

atcdan133 I'd imagine there's not much wind resistance back there because of the double cab of such a huge full-size Chevy truck however it might be a good idea to put a small piece of plywood or paneling in the seat of the razor Polaris leaned up against the half windshield, to deflect the wind up above the windshield. Even setting a boogie board in the seats of the razor would help LOL!

@@claireshickora931 I did. Tail support is ok. Not a very good support principal. The walls of the tailgate are not designed for this task. A platform on top of the bed will hold the weight much better. Just remember that the platform is just above the gate without touching and transferring the weight. There is a company with this idea call load all. The price is not cheap, but they are excellent and so simple to use.
