Lo-fi Piano Sample [#18]
B Major, 90 BPM 4/4, hard to maintain steady tempo and retain natural swing
Started adding upper extensions to my dominant chords, b9 and b13 sound best imo and open up more avenues for melody

This sample alone is already lofi, just need a full version. Any links?(to a full lofi)
How do you go about choosing a scale and coming up with chords? Are you doing some sort of technique, following theories, or do you go by feeling alone? I’m interested in composing, but not sure where to really start.

Hello, fellow pianist here! This is just my personal experience with messing about in peace. ------> At the start it was mostly feeling alone, but a little theory goes along way!! Chord extensions e.g 7,9 etc are rly nice to use in any scale. From there just hum a melody that comes to mind and just try and play it on your instrument, adding chords where seems right. ( I find i put alot of syncopation when i compose) Simple ballad Lo-fi like this is my favourite type.

hey bro, i think a good place to start would be to get very familiar in one key and rote learn a couple chord progressions that you like. This will free up your right hand so you can focus on melody creation. You can start with the pentatonic scale and then adding more colour through non-diatonic chord tones(notes not within the key). You will find these non-diatonic notes in your left hand chords particularly in your dominant, diminished and minor7b5 chords which you can borrow temporarily to change the direction of your story. Most importantly its about building a foundation first before you add more layers of complexity. If you learn well through books I would recommend this one www.amazon.com/Jazz-Harmony-Book-David-Berkman/dp/1883217792 , it assumes no prior music theory knowledge and walks you through a practical approach to Jazz reharmonization if thats what you're into.
