LNER Class 800/801 'Azuma' Trains in ACTION! 2019

This Video is Property of MT Productions!
2160p 4K HD!
Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action. Either you enjoy them or criticise them, the new Hitachi built Class 800/801’s ‘Azuma’ are shaping up the future of public rail transport for passengers on the East Coast Mainline and more had come into service over the last few months. Therefore, I thought putting together a compilation of them together token from various locations across the ECML including Leeds, Doncaster and Grantham. A mixture of them stopping at stations and speeding whether they are in passenger service and/or doing test runs. Make sure you all check the compilations I’ve done of the IC125 and IC225 which both are equally rememberable. Hope you all enjoy this!

Far too many people hating on the Azuma here. I bet they all did the same when the Deltics were replaced by the HST and class 91 locos. I have been on them multiple times (mainly with TPE) They are very comfortable. The ride is great. The acceleration is stunning. They are rather quiet, even when running on diesel. The leg room is fantastic. They have a huge number of seats per carriage (92 per carriage!!) There is sufficient luggage space. The only thing that isn't great are the seats. They are not allowed to have a lot of padding. Other than that, these trains are great and a good successor to the amazing HST And the intercity 225.

There is an element of lamenting the HST with some people but not all. Some of the criticism is valid. The travel experienceI depends on which specific unit you have. And also which car you sit in. My first trip was in a motor coach of an early (Japanese build) LNER 800 car and I was shocked by now noisy it was. Really very poor. Return trip was in one of the driving cars which was fairly quiet and smooth. Third trip was in a 801 trailer car (UK build I believe) which had AC that sounded like a gale in the cabin and rattling/buzzing panels - build quality seemed very poor. I've heard similar reports of variability of the GWR sets. Some appear to be reasonably refined and well made while others are very poor. I would agree with this assessment. Not had a chance to try a TPE 802 set yet. Perhaps the build quality has been improved by now. The seat have been criticised to death and rightly so - totally unsuitable for a long distance train and its not just a lack of padding. The shape and angle are very uncomfortable over long periods. For this reason alone they have not gone down well with a lot of people. I would have to conclude that in terms of comfort they are a step backwards. Though I think if they had proper seats and the quality control was sorted out they would make acceptable long distance trainst. They are not all bad like some people are making out but there are definitely some quality and design issues that ought to be addressed.

I've had the pleasure of being on one of TPE's 802s. The ride is at least as comfortable as with the 185s, there's plenty of leg room, and they obviously have the option of using electric power. The only problem is that they're still not bloody long enough. Seven carriages would be better, especially between Manchester and Leeds.

In a regular lifespan they shouldn't have to run 50 years anyway. Rolling stock that's used for 50 years is clearly only still in service due to lack of funding for new trains. Also: None of you know if the Azumas could last 50 years. All you are is stuck up in the thought bubble that everything old is good abd reliable, and everything new is bad and low quality. The fact is after the early troubles are sorted out most modern trains run just as reliably as the old ones did when they were new.
